    C25K D2W5

Okay, this week five ramp up is kicking my lungs! OMG, that first 8 minute interval I felt like I was going to accidentally inhale my inhaler. The second interval was fine though, not sure what that is. Perhaps my lungs just need half a run to get the message.

      GREAT JOB, QUO!!!!

I just took a peek at what Week 5 entailed - OMG! That IS scary. Good for you for getting through it. I am in awe of you.

      Today I completed Day 2, Week 3, C25K. Total distance covered - 2.5 miles

      Brisk 5 minute warmup walk
      jogged 90 seconds/walked 90 seconds
      jogged 3 minutes/walked 3 minutes
      jogged 90 seconds/walked 90 seconds
      jogged 3 minutes/walked 3 minutes
      jogged 90 seconds/walked 90 seconds
      jogged 3 minutes/walked 5 minutes

      Another great workout!

I still can't get over you being able to get through a Week 5 workout, Quo! That is really very exciting. You're an inspiration!

Hey, you might know about this site already, but I'll throw it out there just in case. I use it to map out my route for running/walking/biking. It's cool. www.mapmyrun.com . You just enter the address you're starting from, and it will give you a map of the area. You can map your route, and know exactly how far you've gone.

That's a cool site Mitzi! I am really unsure about Saturday's run to be honest. Week 5 is tough; even week 6 doesn't seem as steep a jump as 5. I'm gonna give it my best but don't be surprised if it turns into a interval.

You won't hear anything out of me! I'm already wondering how in the h*ll I'm going to be able to do Week 4, much less Week 5. I am more than sure that there will be weeks that I repeat. Just keep plugging along, girl - we'll get there!

            Omg! Omg! Omg!

            C25K D3W5

20 minutes. Completed. I sucked on my inhaler several times in the beginning but my body and legs cut through the air like butter. I took a new route so I wasn't using landmarks to mark time and make me miserable.

It was pretty, lots of runners and dogs out and several small knolls masquerading as hills. I was able to wear an old pair of exercise shorts that barely fit three years ago when I bought them. The run was in the late morning and I was in a long sleeve; I was hot. Regardless, I feel tired but good.

This run was much better and my lungs were in a loss less shock compared to yesterday. I used my inhaler twice until about 5 minutes in and then just kept going. I admit the route I took today wasn't as hilly and I attempted to find some tree covered roads so that helped a lot. Good luck on your run Mitzi. Week five looks scary right up until you are almost done with it but you'll be surprised. I really debated doing another week 4 and now I am happy I tried because now I know what I can do. Even if I had tried and failed and turned it into another week 4 I would have been fine but I'm happy I tried. BTW, my ankles are much stronger and my shins no longer hurt. I've been using as much of the chirunning principles as I can remember mid run and my legs don't hurt structurally anymore.

Quo, how many days a week do you run? I am doing 3 days a week, and probably will continue that pattern till the end. And I never run on consecutive days. You're a running machine!

Thank you for sharing this! It is very motivating to hear that.

Yes! I was just telling my husband that this is one of my favorite things about the program. In a relatively short span of time, you can really discern a noticable difference in your fitness... you can actually tell that you are getting stronger. Each week, when I look to see what is coming up in the next week, I think I will never be able to do that! And it's hard at first, but you get through it. It's wonderful!

What principles do you speak of?

                      Re: Looking for C25K buddy?

Chirunning is a way of running that reduces stress on the body and injuries. Mr. Dyer is an ultra runner would spent a lot of time in martial arts and ti chi. So he melded them together with his teacher to figure out what people were doing wrong when they ran and how to use gravity at pull the body along. The guy is local to me but I just picked up the book and DVD cause I've been to busy to visit his clinic. ( www.chirunning.com ) Just his advice on down hill running was a HUGE difference for me but my core isn't strong enough to keep my posture right all the time yet. But I am a big believer since in the past when I ran leg pain was always just a fact of life for me and downhill running... forget about it.

I run 4 days a week. When I was done running in week 1, my lungs really felt cruddy. I did not feel ready for week 2 even though my legs did. I did some research and there was a 8 week walk/run program on runners world that was 4 days a week and it sounded like a great idea. The program ramped up way to quickly for my comfort though. I want to stay injury free and give my body and bones a chance to strengthen so I kept the 4 days but stayed with the couch 2 5k intervals. For example, yesterday my run was hard. I huffed and puffed and was tired. I was using my inhaler well after the halfway point, but today's was much easier. I would say it was almost... comfortable. That extra day seems to allow my lungs one extra run to get used to the mileage before it changes again. It reminds me of marathon programs that have a smaller run right after the long run to help the body adjust to the long run mileage. This probably wouldn't be so noticeable if it weren't for my asthma; luckily lungs improve quickly. I like to have one run with only 1 or 2 inhaler puffs and no puffs in the second half, before I feel good moving on though. The week 6 runs would feel scarier if I hadn't had a comfortable run today.

On my way in the house after a talk with my neighbor I was still in my running clothes. So my other neighbor's mom is taking the neighbors daughter for a grandmothers day jont. As she pulls out of the driveway (I haven't see her in a couple months) she pokes her head out the window and says with a surprised look on her face "wow, you're looking good!" lol, on days I don't wanna run I think I need to remember that. I really like running and exercise once it's a habit. Its keeping my focus off the food and I find myself doing Atkins without thinking about it much. The downside, my journal chats and stuff have suffered but I love the way this feels. I can't wait to have before and after pictures that look like yours.

                        Thank you, Quo.

Woo hoo on the compliment! I LOVE when that happens... when someone makes the effort to tell you - hey, you're looking good!

Yeah... I know what you mean about losing computer time when you get consistent with exercise, but we MUST do it! I am known for inconsistency with exercise... must fight that! For example, it's after 6:00pm right now and I haven't run yet today... today is the last day of my "week". I'm going to give it my best try to get out there.

Thanks for explaining about chirunning - sounds interesting! And I do see how that extra day of training would help. You go, girl!

Hills - what's that? LOL... in my neck of the woods, the land is flat as a pancake. I haven't had to deal with any hills.

                        Have a great week!

Someone on youtube said, when you don't wanna work out put your work out clothes on. First you'll feel so silly sitting around in your running outfit you'll want to get out the door. But your brain senses the running clothes and switches into running mode. It seems to work, so go grab those fancy smancy new shoes of yours!

Quo, you're my hero! Well done.

Well, it looks like I may be repeating Week 3. I jammed my knee cap into the doorframe trim of my bathroom yesterday morning, and it has fluid on it. I mean, I really knocked the living crap out of it. And right after I did it, I had to stand on my feet for about 9 hours straight. I was limping last night. The good news is - it's feeling better today, and I think that one more day of rest will be all I need. I hope! I'm liking the program so much, that I really don't want to get out of the groove. I was supposed to start Week 4 yesterday, but I'm going to do at least 1 or 2 more runs at the Week 3 level.
