Okay, that sucked. The good think is I didn't need my inhaler. The bad part was not only was I running at 10:30 pm and did some guy flash his brights at me repeatedly because he didn't realize there WAS NO SIDEWALK but... my left shin hurts I'm soaking in tiger balm and hoping it's just run of the mill shin splints and not something more serious.

Oh I forgot one more good part about my run today... it made the soreness from yesterdays Tae Bo much better.

Felt the very beginning of shin-splints so took day 4 off. Week four starts Tuesday so that should give the muscles time to relax.

Sorry about your shin quo. But I have learned since starting exercising that if anything starts to hurt the best thing is to stop and let it rest and heal. So you are doing the right thing.

I actually got in one run here on my vacation. There was less snow than I thought and actually nice spring weather (for Northern Norway). If I get a couple of more runs in before I return I may not have to go backwards - but we'll see.

Nice to see you in the thread Mitzi.

I didn't feel nearly prepared for that run having only run three days last week. I did notice a huge difference with that extra day. The first 3 minute run was like lead but I lightened up about halfway through the first 5 minute run. No pain in shin until 15 mins after run. Looking at the runners books I should be fine with extra shin stretches etc.

              Re: Looking for C25K buddy?

              Greetings, Everyone

Today was Day 1 of Week 2 of C25K for me. It went as follows:

10 minute brisk warmup walk, then alternated jogging 90 seconds, and walking 2 minutes, for 25 minutes (excluding the walk). Total time was 35 minutes and distance covered was 2.5 miles.

This is the 3rd time I have had to do week 2, because each time I have completed week 2, I had to take a week off due to pain or sickness. Hopefully, I will be able to continue in a normal fashion now.

The first time I had to take off, it was because I developed a terrible knee pain from running in crappy shoes. I have AWESOME shoes now. The second time I had to take off, it was because I had a cold. I caught the cold from the guy who fitted me for the new shoes. He was sniffing and snorting all over the place, and had handled my shoes.

I sure wish the weather could be like it is today, everyday. It was beautiful, low humidity, and not hot for a change. A great way to get me back into the groove. Too bad that kind of weather is a rarity here. It's been hitting the 90's and been humid as h*ll... not THAT'S normal for here.

I only run 3 days a week, and I start my weeks on Sundays. Day 1 down!

Well, it went great until after the first round of intervals my podcast stopped and I realized the download didn't complete. I was so annoyed I forgot I had the chronograph on my phone so ran home the rest of the way! It was a little of schedule (about 8 minutes) but I was pretty stoked that I made it.

                  Re: Looking for C25K buddy?

                  Hello!

I didn't get a chance to make it here yesterday, so I will report yesterday's run today.

On Thursday, I completed Day 2, Week 2:
brisk 10 minute warmup walk, then alternated jogging 90 seconds and walking 2 minutes, for 25 minutes (excluding the walk). Total time was 35 minutes, and total distance covered was 2.5 miles.

I was starting my weeks on Sunday because that's my weigh in day, but I am going to have to start them on Mondays now. I wasn't working Saturdays for a while, and was running my 3rd session on that day. But it looks like I will be working more Saturdays during the summer, so I will be finishing the week up on Sundays now.

                  So far, so good.

yeah, podrunner is cool, some people seem to like it -- but I always find that I need actual songs to keep me moving, not just beats or DJ sets....

If I were u, I'd check out the "Euro Club Hits" series -- it's on iTunes -- you can just search for it, or try this link: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/M...Club+Hits+Vol+

very sluggish for the first half and still considering whether to start W5 on Tuesday or do another W4. Other than feeling sluggish, it went well.

Mitzie, you're doing great! What kinds of shoes did you get?

                          C25K D4W4

I did fine but this was the first time I ran during the day since my asthma is harder to run around in the heat. Plus I ran that darned hill again. I had about 3 minutes left of my last 5 minute interval when I passed a couple guys washing their motorcycles. I yelled a looking good at the sparkly honda and yamaha and the response took me completely by surprise. They yelled a "looking good keep going" back at me!!!! it took me a full minute to process. Their words hadn't been distorted by my headphones and took me through that last arse kicking minute (It was HOT). I was considering doing this week over again but after those words I realized, I am looking good and can keep going!

                            Thanks, Quo

After trying on 5 different pairs, I settled on these:

They are Brooks Axiom 2. I also got some inserts to put inside of them, called Superfeet. The guy who fitted me watched me walk, and determined that I mildly over-pronate... that is what the inserts are for. This was quite a pricey purchase. The only way I was able to pull it off, was because I got birthday cash from my mom and my inlaws. The shoes were $90 and the inserts were $35. In my state, we have 9% sales tax, so they ended up totaling a little over $136.00. I can honestly say, though, that it has been worth every penny.

I am still blown away by how much I have enjoyed my last 2 runs. And I think I know why I am doing so well. I saw Joy (Valid Rouge) talking about how she runs slow. And from re-reading some material, I saw that the number 1 reason people quit is because they do too much, too fast. I thought about that, and realized that I really was running too fast... I'm not supposed to be working on speed right now. I'm just trying to get my endurance up... trying to get my bones stronger to withstand the impact that running puts on them. Ever since I slowed down, I have actually been able to relax into the run... I'm not nearly as stressed. There will be time to work on speed later, once I am able to just run the 3 miles.

It sucks that you have asthma! My son has had it since he was an infant. Don't you hate running in the heat? I was lucky today, in that the humidity was low. Gotta love that! In a perfect world, I would be able to get my run in first thing in the morning. Alas, my world is sooooo not perfect. So I will just get them in when I can. Tuesday will be Day 1 of Week 3 for me.

                            Have a great week!

                              Tuesday, May 6th ~ Day 1, Week 3, C25K

                              Brisk 5 minute warmup walk.

                              Jogged 90 seconds - Walked 90 seconds

                              Jogged 3 minutes - Walked 3 minutes

                              Jogged 90 seconds - Walked 90 seconds

                              Jogged 3 minutes - Walked 3 minutes

                              Jogged 90 seconds - Walked 90 seconds

                              Jogged 3 minutes - Walked 5 minutes

                              Total Distance covered: 2.5 miles

                              -----------------------------------------------------

The plan only calls for 2 rotations of jogging/walking 90 seconds, jogging/walking 3 minutes. I still hadn't gotten back to my house yet after the second rotation, though, so I added a third. It wouldn't have felt like I worked out enough if I stopped after the second rotation.

So, I woke up very late for work this morning and came home exhausted but I managed to drag myself away from MSNBC Live and out the front door. Week 5 is SCARY but I made it and the last five minutes went very smooth. The first 5 minutes didn't feel as sluggish as previous runs, even with the strong head winds. Once I make it to Saturday I think I can breath a sigh of relief. I was also still sore from Tae Bo but post run my muscles feel better.
