  • Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

W8D1 now behind me. I'm so close to 30 minutes of continued jogging -- it's tempting to just jog an extra 2 minutes to call it done. But why rush it? 28 minutes it is for the rest of this week.

I had a Dr appointment yesterday to have x-rays of my lower legs just to make sure there wasn't some old infirmity causing the source of my leg pain. I haven't heard back yet, but I'm not expecting any news that could be used as an excuse to stop running.

Both my doctor and a gentleman I met while running the other day strongly suggested I visit a running shoe store for a proper fitting of my shoes. I dropped by after work yesterday. They had me run for a couple minutes on a treadmill in the store to view my gait and how my foot falls. They informed me that the shoes I had been using were too malleable and didn't offer enough support for my arch. They instead recommended a show with a rigid sole through the middle. I tried them out last night for my routine and noticed definite improvement! My legs were still a little sore, but I was nowhere near as "crippled" as I felt after week 7's runs.

I'm still on course for a Turkey Day 5K. I'm enjoying trail running rather than running on the street, and am willing to stick with jogging after the initial 9-week course and see how it goes. Every once in while I have the crazy idea that I want to work up to a half marathon, but then I put an ice pack on the old legs and come back down to earth!

Glad to see everyone is still checking in on this thread. I'm also glad to see that illness and life in general is only causing slight modifications in your exercise plan rather than causing anyone to derail completely. For me, the hardest part of exercising is getting out the door. Once I'm moving, I'm usually good to go the distance. Hopefully a few of you will join me on Thanksgiving Day for a 5K whether it's via jogging, walking or a combination of the two.

      Hi Lisa, Irish and Eric

Glad you are all keeping it updespite life and all it throws at you.

28 mins is great Eric! I get my running shoes fitted in a great shop and they do a lot of gait analysis - I would never go anywhere else now.

I am here to state my intention to re-start C25k this week!

        Hey all

Anyone else still C25k-ing? I took a little longer to start than planned due to health issues, but today just felt right.

        So I've done C25K week 1 day 1 - covered 1.47 miles. Felt good.

Hey, Alexa! I'm so glad you're able to start again...and that you're doing well.

I've been walking but not jogging. I actually sold my treadmill yesterday , but for a good cause..... 'cause we're moving and need the cash to buy things we need. I know it'll be a good thing...it went to a good home. I'll be putting my DVDs to work and walk with a good friend of mine. We'll be moving into a new house in a couple of weeks (another reason for my insanity and trying to just live)....and that's a cool thing! My good friend lives near where we'll be moving and she plans on dragging me out with her. I told her about the Turkey Trott on Thanksgiving, she laughed at me. I may not jog it, but I'll walk it.

When things get settled I hope to have the energy to restart C25K. For now I'm walking my rear off. The weigh isnt' coming off, but the inches are---that's a good thing.

            Hey Lisa,

Thanks Day 2 is planned for tommorrow!

Sorry to hear about the treadmill, but at last you can run outside too - unless it gets too cold! I personally found running outside puffed me out much more, I felt it was a better workout, so maybe you'll have no need to regret it.

Good luck with the house move! And the Turkey Trot. That's for thanksgiving right? I bet the atmosphere will be great.

Hey. So life has happened. I've stopped the C25k. I actually found out that I was pregnant! So I stopped Atkins and toned down my workouts. Unfortunately I lost the baby (2nd one this year) on October 4th. Right now I'm working on trying to get to a mentally and emotionally strong place. My eating and work out habits are non-existant. Hopefully I'll get to where I need to be so I can restart the C25k.

I'm glad you are doing well. Sorry to be so depressing but I wanted to give you all an update since we're C25k buddies! Or at least we'll start over together one of these days...

Lisa -- I've been making a point to read your journal entries, although just reading about the move, the wind down of student teaching and the start of a new job have ME stressed out so I can only imagine how you feel right about now. As long as you promise to get back in the groove once the current crop of stresses dies down, I'll cut you some slack on exercise goals. Don't forget that you got me into this thing so you have to stick it out with me!

Alexa -- It's great to see you moving through the weeks again! I agree that running outside is more enjoyable. Maybe it's psychological, but I feel like I'm "getting somewhere" when the scenery changes as I go. Of course the days are getting shorter and the evenings are getting cooler so I may have to change my plan soon.

Irish -- I am SO sorry to hear the news about the miscarriage. It seems like that is more and more common these days as I know several friends who have lost a child unintentionally over the past few years. PLEASE try to focus on yourself for a little while and refuse to stress over diet and exercise while you recover. The fact that you still check in here from time to time is a good sign that you'll be ready to get back on board once you're ready. I'll ve sure to keep you in my prayers.

As for me, I have officially wrapped up the C25K program last week. I'm running 30-40 minutes 3X per week which works out to 3-3.5 miles. I'm trying to stick to a 3X per week program without increasing time or distance for now although I'm still toying with the idea of working towards a half marathon. I have not yet signed up for a 5K race on Thanksgiving, but a part of me still wants to do it just to say I did. We'll see how that plays out. My new program I started this week was the hundred pushup challenge. I don't know if I'll ever be able to do one hundred pushups in a row, but any help I can give to my upper body is well worth it.

Best of luck to everyone still checking in. Stay healthy, happy, and motivated.
                Eric
