    SG, I'm mostly taking it for cardiovascular improvement & also hoping that it'll help my asthma. Atkins recommends 3600-7200mg of fish oils for those with asthma or emphysema. For cardiovascular and high cholesterol, he lumps the good fatty acids as "essential oils" formula. Since they don't make that anymore, I'm going with mostly flaxseed oil with a fish oil kicker.

      OMG, not that it's cool at all, but I have psoriasis also!! It is flairing up BIG time right now, but I haven't figured out what to do for it! I have it on my ankles and sometimes it comes back on my knees and elbows and I had a little tiny patch that would appear on my face but I haven't seen it in years

      What do you take in particular for that?? I would LOVE to have it controlled w/OUT having to tan to get it to go away...

        Getting on my nerves?? Are you kidding?? I love talking about nutrition!!!

        Sorry to hear that you also suffer from psoriasis. I don't take everything that Atkins recommends for psorasis, but what I do take has helped me tremendously.

        My face used to be almost entirely covered in plaques where it looked like I wore a mask. Now I get flare ups during stressful times such as exams or during TOM, but my spots are mostly below the neckline now, which is a lot easier to hide. I still get some spots near my eyes and on my chin now and then, but I can live with that.

        Atkins recommends 1-3 grams of Vitamin C, this is on top of whatever is in your multivitamin. However, I take around 6 grams b/c it helps me with my asthma. Does this extra boost of vitamin C help me with the psorasis? I can't say for certain, but I can say it does for asthma in my case. I also take a combo supplement of calcium/magnesium/zinc. You want to have at least 400 mg of magnesium, which is the most important of the three. The rest are then in proportion to the magnesium, usually 100 for zinc and 1200 for calcium.

        I also take flaxseed oil 2-3 times a day, which in my opinion, has worked wonders for my skin. I just added fish oil, so we'll see how that helps, if any. In addition to the wonders of flaxseed oil, I also take a lot of B vitamins. You may wish to just add a B-complex in addition to your multivitamin.

        You just added EPO for the GLA. You will have to let me know how this works for you on your skin. It supposed to help, but I personally won't add it until I know about the fishoil.

          Still on track with vitamins!

          Bio, out of curiousity, how much flax oil do you take per day? Do you take the oil or the caplets? I am taking 2 1200mg caplets a day, but thinking of increasing my dose. Comments, criticisms?

            Julie, the total amount is hard to say as I use both oil and capsule forms. As a supplement, I usually take 3600 mg (3 @ 1200mg each), but I'll take 2 capsules if I'm feeling particularly healthy, and go back to 3 when I have flare-ups. We also use flaxoil in our salads, and I would guess that I use about 2 tablespoons when I drizzle it on my salad, but then, I don't measure it either.

            It would not harm you to increase to 3 capsules a day if you feel you need it.

                Thanks bio! I know that flax is awesome stuff, but didn't want to have too much of a good thing. Capsule #3, here I come.
