Men and non-menopausal women can take around 1500 mg of calcium, but menopausal women need more.
Vitamin D3 is a hormone that helps our bodies absorb more calcium into our system. So if you're taking a calcium supplement, it will help your body greatly if it also contains vitamin D3. Yes, your body can make Vit D3 via the sun, but as you age, it doesn't make it as well as it used to. Vit D3 also helps direct other minerals in our bodies to help our bones as well as help us with other issues. And to reiterate what SG said, do NOT take more than 1000 IU of Vitamin D. Too much D will cause us to have too much calcium in our blood, and that's not great either!
