Also, Calcium Citrate (I think that's it) is better than Coral Calcium which some say is a scam.

Bio? Does this sound right to you, I know we've discussed it before but i'm just verifying!
Those are good amounts, SG. Men and non-menopausal women can take around 1500 mg of calcium, but menopausal women need more.

Vitamin D3 is a hormone that helps our bodies absorb more calcium into our system. So if you're taking a calcium supplement, it will help your body greatly if it also contains vitamin D3. Yes, your body can make Vit D3 via the sun, but as you age, it doesn't make it as well as it used to. Vit D3 also helps direct other minerals in our bodies to help our bones as well as help us with other issues. And to reiterate what SG said, do NOT take more than 1000 IU of Vitamin D. Too much D will cause us to have too much calcium in our blood, and that's not great either!

Tks Silly and Bio for all this info. I'm all set for a trip to the Chemist now.

Pity supplements are so expensive here... am wondering if ordering online (though not from USA because of customs probs) would be cheaper. Anyone have any experience of this, ex-USA?

Sorry Sal...I can't help you there. Hope you've found a better vendor to help out overseas.

As this year is coming to an end, I plan on doing some cupboard cleanouts. One thing will be to organize my supplments and throw out the ones that we didn't like (taste/effects/etc). For DH, he didn't like Target's Vit B complex, so we're looking for a different one for him to take since he doesn't want to take them individually like I do. I'm letting go of my zinc supplement for now b/c it makes my tummy a bit upset.

How about you? What changes, if any, will you be doing to your supplement regimen?

i think i'm going to be adding a calcium supplement. maybe something that i can drink? i guess there's an option for that. depends on what carb counts are and so on. i've not looked into this so much but during this reading, and the posts in this thread, i'm thinking i need to up my intake on calcium.

i'll keep jack on the biotin, b comples, glucosamine/chon. supplement along with his daily vitamin. he seems to feel pretty good on those.

I'm adding calcium, for sure... when I get home from the islands. Also, in the last few days have added a B complex (B1, B6, B12 if I remember correctly).

So I haven't been consistent with taking my vitamins *cringe*
But I'm trying now. I restarted induction and I'm drinking my water and vitamins. Funny you girls mention calcium because I, too, got some calcium pills this weekend!
So now I'm taking a calcium supplement and my regular vitamins

I also had a question...should I be taking other supplements aside from my mega multivitamin and my calcium supplement? I see that a lot of people take tons of other supplements and I just didn't know if we were supposed to or what the deal is. Any insight?

i wonder if everyone is on track and remembering their supplements?
i'm out of multivitamins and had intentions of getting them last night. no truck, no travel.

hopefully that will get remedied either tonight or tomorrow. i'm on track with everything else.

Do you feel more energetic with the added B yet Sally?

I got myself new Calcium citrate because I had been taking the Coral Calcium, mostly because it seemed natural. I read it's not really the kind of calcium menopausal women need.

                          I'm still on track!

I'm ditching the l-glutamine (in pill form) as it didn't do a DANG thing for me, except empty my wallet a little bit. I swear, I had worse cravings after I started taking it when I'd never even really had cravings before! I bought some powdered l-glut to drink before/after the gym on those really intensive days.

I've been taking zinc only when I'm coming down with something, as it upsets my stomach, too.

I'm still taking B complex, biotin, cranberry, C, E, glucosamine/chondroitin, flax, and my 50+ multivitamin.

I ran out of l-carnitine and haven't replaced it, but I think I should. I saw some positive effects when I was taking that.

I swear by zinc when I'm getting sick too Julie. It usually works but upsets my stomach also. I take it at mealtimes, which seems to help some.

Interesting about the l-glutamine. I've thought about trying some for cravings and after what you said, I think I won't.

Can't say I do as yet Silly... but I sleep terribly badly and I think that's what makes me tired. On the odd occasions I have a better night, I feel wonderful the next day.

Here in Italy the chemist would only give me a 600 mg pill of calcium... otherwise would need the docs prescription. Am wondering about the 2000 mgs that have been mentioned for menopausal women... here people keep telling me we need 1200 mgs max. I could take two of the 600 mg pills of course, but that's still a long way from 2000 mgs. It's all a bit confusing.

i guess i need to look at my dosage, sal. what kind of calcium are your getting via real food?

i've got my multivitamin stash now and bought the store brand of Estroven. i've got to see if this helps the problems i'm having right now. i know all these things are working together, slgiht nagging headache, a gain of a few pounds, higher b/p readings than what i am used to, restless nights and the over all blech feelings. i know it's hormonal, i just have to figure out what to do about it. HRT is not something i want to do.

                                adding this:
sal, i checked the supplements that i take to see how much calcuim is i'm getting via those. i take biotin too but it doesn't have any calcium.

                                calcium: 1200 mg plus D
multivitamin C omplete 50 Plus, calcuim 200 mg
                                B 100% Complex, calcium 35 mg
                                Estroplus, calcium 150mg

                                calcium mg total 1585 mg

i'll bet i'm getting the 2000 mg your talking about, when i add the real food totals.
