Re: Any 50 year old members out there?? Come on in and say hi

Good morning, I am always tickled when I get on this site, and specially this board.

Carole your Mum will be much better with her sight improved. My mother had cataract surgery a number of years ago and did very well. She has hearing aids and is also diabetic, and even tho' she's was a nurse, didn't look after her sugars the way she should have. She has a number of health problems, the worst of which is dementia, so she's now in a home. She loves it there, fortunately, and keeps herself busy helping staff with less fortunate patients, as tho' she were still working, and not 81 years old, lol! The staff love her, she's such a tiny, cheerful (when she feels ok), busy little woman. So, I hope your Mum improves greatly, which will improve life overall for everyone!

Definitely let us know how your bloodwork is. I didn't have any done right before starting Atkins but did have some done several months ago. I actually don't remember hearing back about it, to tell you the truth, so I should call the doctor's office and set up an appointment.

I used the Bowflex last night and I can feel it in my rear, which is a good thing, I'm going to use the treadmill this morning for 20 minutes, after my yoga CD. I don't have to work till 11, so it gives me some time, since I got up an hour later than normal.

I'm going to try those kebabs you had, I also have metal skewers, so ...come on sun!!! It's another wet, rainy, cool, windy day here in Ontario no gardening today.

    Have a great day everyone,

    Suzanne

Re: Any 50 year old members out there?? Come on in and say hi

Hi all -- took mom this morning to have the eye patch taken off and check of her eye - she is 20/20 vision in both eyes now. The first thing she said after the patch was removed was "WOW - it's really bright in here"...LOL. This eye has a little more blood in the corner near the tear ducts than the other eye did but he said it would go away in a few days.....she came home and napped again this morning. When she woke up she said she felt much better and not so weak.

I managed to get the lawn mowed again before the rain started -- yea! It is growing so quickly every 3 - 4 days it has to be mowed. The bike riding has really made my legs so much stronger and my heart stronger that I barely break a sweat when I mow (because of being tired -- I sweat because of the heat!!).

I'm getting real good at typing and biking at the same time now. I am watching TV this afternoon instead of watching a movie, concert of listening to an album.

We are having meatloaf, creamed turnips and I'm having a salad for dinner. The hubs and mom will have baked beans and the hubs will have a baked potato in place of the creamed turnips because turnips are "white" and he doesn't eat "white"....I never figured out how he eats potatoes, because I only buy WHITE potatoes...LOL.

I'm 12 miles down the road on the bike so far....13 more to go and I'm done. I did abs work yesterday so I won't do them again today. If it stops raining I'll take Sadie for a walk tonight -- each time I mow I walk a mile back and forth in the lawn but Sadie likes going on her own walks so I haven't taken her in a couple days .... tonight will be a good time to go again.

      Have a great day!
      Carole

Funny thing, Carole, we're having "turnip" too, only it's really rhutabaga. We've always called the yellow ones turnip, lol. They will go with the salmon I'm baking, soon as I get off here I came on to find a recipe for salmon that might be a little different than what I usually do. If the rain holds off, I'll take Lincoln for a walk too, he's missed it for 2 days, due to pouring rain. I may just take the bike, since he's trained to trot along beside me. Then we can go a little longer for him in the same length of time. It doesn't do me any good tho', too slow, so I'm going to try to get on the treadmill tonight....Better get supper going, talk to you all later

Sorry to hijack, being a youngster, but my wife is addicted to Farm Town. She had her laptop and our home desktop going and playing Farm Town with both hands the other day. She was logged into her sister's account on the laptop and her account on the desktop. I hate the game. I want my wife back.

Oh, ... so I'm thinking I should start climbing up those rungs .. I only have another 11 pounds to loose. I guess I could aim for 145 .. but I'm 5'8" and that might be a bit thin for me ...
Well, on to the dairy rung starting tomorrow ... maybe.

You are doing awesomely Barb! You are an inch taller than I am. I'm trying for 150 to start with, I was 135 a very long time ago, before kids, work, cooking for 5, etc. lol. Now I prefer muscles to skinny. I have a girlfriend who, whenever she sees me, says "you don't need to lose any weight, you look fine the way you are!" I think she's afraid I will be thinner than she is or something. She's always going on and off Weight Watcher's. She will have a bird when she finds out I'm doing Atkins, cause she's also a nurse. I love eating the way we do, lol.

Speaking of eating, I need to make tomorrow's lunches. have a good night and keep up the good job.

P.S.We move to the Berry rung next week, if we all lose this week Just in time for strawberries! I can taste the smoothies for breakfast already!

Fancy -- beware the rutabaga -- that's a Rung 8 vegetable...I didn't know it either until I posted I was having rutabaga and Elizellen told me it wasn't allowed until Rung 8. We love rutabaga and turnips but the rutabaga is off limits until later. When I was taking part in the veggie challenge I was going to try butternut squash until I found out that was a Rung 8 veggie also...bummer...LOL!!!

We had a wonderful meal last night...real "comfort" food only legalized!! Meatloaf (no crackers thank you - pork rinds are my binder of choice), baked beans (my first beans in months) and creamed turnips. I was so proud that I measured and ate 1/2 c of the baked beans and was completely satisfied, didn't HAVE to eat more - yea it's a small thing but I need all the right kind of small steps I can get!

Mom's eye is real good today - a little sore in the corner from the trauma of the surgery but otherwise she's doing well. The surgeon said both eyes were now 20/20!! She has to get a pair of magnifier glasses (the reading glasses you can purchase at most stores) but other than that she is doing well.

I have a pork roast in the crock pot and put 3/4 of a head of cabbage in it to cook...it smells yummie!! A little spinach as the side dish and that's dinner tonight!

I made a mock danish the day mom has surgery - she liked it so this morning I made them for both of us for breakfast. She's getting a little tired of breakfast every morning so I'm trying to keep her eating by trying different things. She's not doing Atkins with me (wish SOMEONE in this house was!!) but once in awhile I get her to try something I'm eating. She liked the "almond bread" I made last week and had as french toast - she had sugar free Clary's syrup and I had daVinci maple syrup. She's not wild about the fried radishes but I still love them and eat them about once every other week.

We are waiting for another rain storm to come through -- this is getting really tiresome with all the rain everyday. The weatherman said we were in for a wet summer (just my luck) so we might as well get use to it. Good news is it's costing less to water the garden this year...LOL!!! And the garden is growing real quickly. We had green onions and I had one of the hottest radishes I've ever eaten last night out of the garden!

Hope everyone is have a great day.

Been tough the past couple days but I am trying. At least it hasn't been raining. I picked radishes out of the garden today -- they are SOOOO hot!!! I'm a wimp - I've been eating the ones from the grocery store for long and they are so mild they have little flavor. I'll have to fry them to see if they taste better that way that the mild store bought ones.

I tried a new recipe for almond bread the other day and decided I didn't like the cinnamon in mine - I like it better without.

I ordered 2 new exercise videos yesterday - I want to have a variety of them so I don't get bored - I seem to get bored pretty easy except on the bike - that is something I can do everyday and if I don't I really feel it. I have Belly Dancing (my body doesn't move that way yet!!), Yoga Booty, Hip Hop Abs and Crunchless Abs already.

All the radishes are now out of the garden -- boy are they hot!!! I want to fry them to see if that makes them easier to eat!! I'm going to plant more green beans in the space where the radishes were. The beans I have already planted look real good and I'm hoping we're have some to harvest soon. The grape tomatoes are going crazy out there -- we should have a bunch of them! I told Charley tonight since they didn't get any garden items planted this year we'll share our "bounty" with them.

Tomorrow, if it doesn't rain, I need to get the bushes in the back yard trimmed up -- I did the front & sides of the house today but just couldn't do any more. Also the neighbors were having company and eating in their yards so I didn't want to be out making noise in the middle of their evening.

Ok -time for bed -- I'm exhausted.

Sorry I haven't been around much lately but my daughter and granddaughter from KY are visiting and it's been hectic around here. I usually get online long enough to post what I have to but don't have time to 'chat', but no one else is up yet except dh and he's out working in the field.

I'm still maintaining at 6 to 10 lbs. above goal for some reason. I can't seem to lose those last few pounds but then I'm not really trying that hard because I'm comfortable here.

Carole, I was glad to hear that your blood test showed that your sugar is now under control because high sugar is so dangerous. My dh can't get his down and although he doesn't take insulin, I think it's not far away.

He can't do Atkins because he gets the shakes if he doesn't get carbs. If he eats pancakes and syrup, he's good for 4 hours but if he eats a cheese omelet, he's ready to pass out in 2 hours. His body is just different, I guess! Thank God, I don't have any of those problems!

Our garden is just starting to grow well. We have had cold weather and even frosts several times but it's warmer now even though it's only in the 50's this morning. The only things we've harvested so far are lettuce and spinach.

Gotta go. My sil just came in.

I finally got a couple pictures of the flower garden and veggie garden -- it's not raining yet, but it is suppose to start soon.

This is my container flower garden. Later this summer we're having landscaping done in this area so I didn't want anything that was going to be crushed when the stone is brought in.

here is my raised bed garden. At the left side of the garden are beans - the whole middle is tomatoes and the radishes were at the right end (before I pulled them yesterday). I'll put more beans at that end probably tomorrow. Along the front of the garden we've planted green onions so there isn't any wasted space. The 2 black bags at the far right side are actually potato bags but the one in the back is full of turnips and the front on has cucumbers in it.
