  • To all you shrinking women,

I am happy and relieved to let you know that the operation was successful and that the terrible pain I had been suffering the past six months is gone. I am now at a rehab center trying to activate all those atrophied muscles. I need to take it real slow, but any moving at all is making progress. The cook is preparing Atkins meals for me. Nevertheless portion control is a big deal. 30 minutes on the ergometer at 25 watt is only 40 calories burned. I weigh in on Monday and will let you know.

    Happy Easter to everyone.

So glad to hear you are recovering after your op - and to be free of the pain must be such a relief to you.
How wonderful that they are able to let you stay on Atkins meals too - I wish you all the best for the next few weeks till you are able to go home.
We look forward to hearing about your progress.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      • Thanks, Elizellen. It is indeed an incredible relief to be free of debilitating pain. Yesterday I was on the ergometer for 30 minutes (at 25 watt) and walked four times around the hospital (with the crutches) - 1680 meters. Not much for a 'normal' person, but big progress for me. I won't be able to swim or take part in water gymnastics for another 6 -8 weeks, because of the fear of luxation from uncontrolled movement without the brace I am wearing, but that, too, will pass, and with the warmer, sunnier weather things are looking up.

The cook here is really great. Every morning I get 2 hard boiled eggs and a piece of meat or turkey breast for breakfast. I also have a thermos pot of decaf coffee and heavy cream that I finish up by the end of the day. Lunch is always a generous piece of meat or fish or poultry without any sauce and leafy greens/tomato/cucumber/raw zucchini slices/radish and in the evening, meat or cheese with fresh salad veggies (like lunch). I also get as much bottled spring water as I would like. I am curious if I have lost any weight when I weigh in tomorrow. I'll let you know.

        Happy Easter.

The centre sounds like they're looking after you and taking care of your Atkins dietry needs perfectly...i wont be suprised if you do lose some weight while in rehab ,but the only news we're all waiting to hear from you right now is that you're getting well quickly and getting back home to your family where you belong.

take care marji and im sending best wishes from the uk for everything to get back to normal for you soon

          • Thanks, Sharon, for your kind words and putting things in perspective. The most important thing is indeed slowly getting better and not obsessing about my weight. I was only 200 grams less than what I weighed when I arrived a week ago Saturday, and I was, of course, disappointed, because I had expected 1-2 pounds loss, but when I looked at my last sig, it was 154 and this morning I was 147 - still 14 pounds more than last December before I ate those damned Xmas cookies and got on binge row. My measurements this morning were 36/34/38(stomach)/40.5 - overall 2-3 " more than the last time I measured myself, but I need to think positive and watch my portions. I'm afraid I didn't do too well with that today. Breakfast was ok with a hard boiled egg and 2 cups of decaf coffee with heavy cream, another egg as a mid-morning snack, but then lunch was smoked trout and lox with leafy greens as an appetizer and a good sized piece of roast beef. Mid afternoon I had the slice of pork I had not eaten for breakfast and for supper, smoked eel, slices of duck, cucumber and tomato. OK on the carbs, but way too many calories for the amount of exercise I did today - 45 minutes bike (25 watt) and physiotherapy exercise. I hope I'm not boring you and coming across as petty when I should be thankful and cheerful about making progress with my recuperation and not having pain.

            • hi marji how are you today :wave

you certainly are not boring me or coming across as petty,i think you are doing incredibly well to have a lost, even if it is only a couple of hundred grams in the situation you are at now.
The enviroment maybe not be as ideal as it would be if you were at home and carefully measuring those portions, but those few extra nutrient rich calories may be just what your body needs right now to help repair itself .When you get back to complete health and are able to manage the exercise plan you did before your metabolism might just kick up a gear after slowing down and the pounds will start to come off again.

bit of an update on me
Im still on the first rung of OWL currently at my fifth week with only a 1lb loss :confused .
I must say im a little disappointed that it hasnt been more and that i would be climbing onto the next rung by now :sadblinky ....im in a bit of a rut and seriously thinking about going back to induction if i dont start losing again soon...ive still got a long way to go and even though i knew the weightloss would slow down on OWL,i dont feel like i am progressing as much as what i did on induction.

Im going to read DANDR again and have a look round on the boards here for any suggestions and im going to add a few more minutes daily exercise for the next couple of weeks before i decide

i hope the rest of you are ok and still on plan it would be really good if you could just pop in once in a while and let us know how you are all doing.

              • Hi, Sharon,

So far, so good today. 2 eggs with decaf coffee and heavy cream for breakfast; veal with leafy greens, cucumber, olive oil and apple vinegar for lunch, decaf coffee and heavy cream for dessert. I haven't done any real exercise yet, but I have walked around from one treatment to another and up and down a few stairs. Do you find that going back to induction, merely eating fewer carbs but the same amount of calories, helps you? I think we can't underestimate the importance of as much exercise as possible. Good luck in getting out of your rut.

you are absolutely right marji, this is what i have been pondering too.
Maybe i really need to step up the exercise more as i increase the carbs and see what happens

                  • That would be a good idea Sharon - also helps to firm up any saggy bits too I find :yikes

Marji I hope your recuperation is going smoothly and you are finding it possible to move around more comfortably now. :hug
I have been plodding along - not noticing much change in pounds but have just left another leather waistcoat at the leather shop to have it taken in so I must still be shrinking!

My sister just sent me some photos she took at Easter of me in my new size 18 slacks and top! I am down to the dress size I was when I married 27 years ago - although everything has moved south! From this angle of the photo my bulges are quite well camouflaged so I dont mind showing off here!!

you look so slender in the pic and good for you for getting down to the size you were 27yrs ago...amazing

Ive got a bit of good news...i got a wooshie..yes, all that moaning about the pounds not shifting and this morning im 4lbs down without doing any extra exercise, which is just as well because i had to go to the docs yesterday afternoon with this on and off burning sensation(rather like an overstretched muscle) i had been getting down my left leg for a few weeks,it turns out its my sciatic nerve thats causing it.
He dosent think its a ruptured disc thats caused it because the pain isnt constant, more likely compression from sitting or lying in the same position for too long ,but i havent got to do too much exercise just the gentle stretching ones the physio has given me for a couple of weeks until the pain is gone.

Hope you're keeping ok marji, and anyone else who might pop in

I was amazed how much slimmer I look in that photo to what I see in the mirror - must be those fat goggles affecting my vision!

                        • Hi everyone.

I've been away for a while. I got discouraged because my weigh loss is so slow so I kept falling off the wagon. I also kept jumping right back on, so the damage is minimal. Today the sun is shining and I am back at ha to recommit and take control again.

Thanks to everyone here I know what I have to do. Drink water, exercise, take my supplements, log my food, and stay on induction.

Marj: I'm so happy to read that your recovery is going well and that you are getting the low carb meals you need.

Roshan: Woohoo on the woozie! I know how frustrating it is when the scale will not move.

Elizellen: WOW your new pic is great!! You are looking good girl!

                              • hi michelle :wave good to see you back on board again.

yes its easy to get discouraged and slip back to our old eating habits when the scale isnt moving, but the important thing is that we have to realise that our old habits are why we got big in the first place .

When this happened to me i said to myself...."was that food really that good that i want to wear it"?...NO!!!.

we're not here to judge you if you fall...we're here to help you get back up and back on course....now bend over michelle while i smear on this extra strong butt glue lol
