  • wow Fr1endly2 you take care of your heart and don't let them tell you it was your Atkins if you do have a blockage as it takes yrs not months to develop them and the doc was a cardiologist using his eatting plan to treat his patients and reverse the signs of blockage too.

Michele have you used the coolrunning.com site to see if you can fix your shoes or stride to correct your shinsplints?

Happy to see all of you are still with us.

      • 2big:
Yeah, I went to the coolrunning.com site looking for advice about my shin splints, and also asked some peole in my office who are lifelong runners and their advice was to rest as much as possible (so I run only every other day now) and to ice my shins after each run (which I do) and do 2 exercises before running which are:
Raise your foot off the floor and trace the alphbet in the air with the tip of your foot, and repeat with the other foot. Also place your heel on the floor and tap tap tap your toes as fast as possible for 30 seconds on each foot. Also I am doing calf-strengthening exercises. So far all this has worked, my shin splints are definately improving and they don't really bother me too much anymore!

        Lisa,
Remember to take care of yourself first, and try not to get to down, try not to let it worry you too much, stress is also bad for the heart! (Well, don't get stressed about being too stressed!)
I hope your outlook is better today!

        • Thanks michele i guess i am clamer today......

Its just very hard to schedule and tend me with the
work I do....I run a familly daycare business in my
home. To close and inconvenience the parents
is something i hate doing......i feel i wasnt giving
them time...then of course finding people to tend my
3 kids for 1 to 2 days is a big problem as well.

It all seems to be falling better into place, where
at first it seemed awfully short notice to plan for me
to spend 1 to 2 days at the hospitol. NOW i have to
keep praying its a small enough blckage that a stent
will open...I really dont want to think about a heart
          bypass surgery of any kind.

THANKS teamies nice to have someone to talk to on this
cause its over whelming for me right now with work, family.
Mommy never cares for her she cares for all the others.

          • Lisa--I'm so sorry to hear about your heart problems--do take care of yourself! I know it is hard for us moms to put ourselves first (I think that's what makes us such great moms!), but this is important. I have watched my father deal with his heart problems for many years and I certainly would not want anyone else to go through what he has.

Michele - I have just finished Week1 of the program and will be starting Week2 on Thursday. Last night I certainly did not feel like running, but I made myself do it because you never know if you will have time to run the next day and I feel so good today. I wish whenever I think about not exercising I would remember how good I feel after. My question to you: how do you breathe? I've been trying to breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth. Is that the most efficient way? Any tips would be appreciated!

Last10 - are you still out there somewhere? Fina, ragtime girls, sneal, warsaw--where are you guys?

2big - thank you for being our group leader. I always look forward to reading your words of wisdom and support!

I don't think I'm losing any weight right now, but I can definitely see the inches going. I suspect I am gaining a lot of muscles in my legs with this running program--but that's okay--my daughters dance and have great butts--I want mine to look like theirs!

Have a good day everyone. I'll be thinking about you Lisa and you, too, Michele to help me keep motivated in my running program.

            • Sally,
Well, I try not to worry too much about breathing. I breathe out of my mouth. I read somewhere that there actually is a proper way to breathe when you run, but when you are a beginner, you shouldn't worry about it too much, your body will get itself the oxygen it needs, and it is best at first to do whatever is comfortable. So that is what I do. Other than that, when I get a side stitch, I try to exhale when I put my left foot down because this helps.

              • Hey I have been here. I actually posted a few days ago. But I am glad that you are concerned for me :yes Still havent got the DSL hooked up in the new place, so we are using dial up. Man it is so slow!!! Anyway I've got a cold and I feel miserable. The dietician at work keeps telling me that I should take vitamin C and tylenol cold, I told her I would not take it because it has starch in it. I am so dedicated to this woe that my husband rolls his eyes now because I read ingredient labels for absoutely everything I eat. Maybe I am being a little obsessive, but it was my own ignorence that got me to the weight I was in the first place. So I may not post for a week or two. But I promise you will not get rid of me that easily.

Landasmom good to see yo are doig so well We have a weekly coolrunning topic in the exercise board for all runners to post in hope you will join it. Us penguin wantabees can only drool and watch.
michele4ad you too they have some long time goalie runners in there too. the alphabet exercise is a great one as is landing on your heels and rolling up onto your toes as you stride goes agaist everything we were taught as kids about running on theball of our foot but that is the correct way to land and push off.

fina hope you are feeling better. check the diabetic cold meds sections for carb free stuff.

                    • Hi All:

Sorry I haven't posted for a while, I took a couple of weeks off for a ski vacation. Looks like everyone is doing well. Did anyone ever hear from Warsaw, Sneal and Ragtime Gal?

I joined the local rec center today. I've decided to add swimming into my routine. I haven't swum laps in years! It's amazing how hard it is. And, I'm going to start doing weights tomorrow (are you proud of me, 2Big?).

Sally: You're running? OMG, my knees ache to think about it. You go, girl!
Fina: Are you feeling better? I HATE being sick!
Friendly: How are you? Did I miss the posting about your tests? Hope you got that clean bill of health that we're all anticipating.
Michele: You're running too? What is this, a cult? LOL, well it's a great cult to be in, you keep it up!
Fina: Did you get moved and get your PC up and running?

                      • Guys.....i love the positive but i think they will find Blockages when i go for the angiogram.....

I have on ocasion, when really angered with problems at home had chest pains, but i ignore...I do get short of breath...but i also blame that again
and again at the extra weight i lugg around......

So i am feeling when they do my angiogram MONDAY...i will be staying overnight for blockage repairs...ballooning or stents. I am just be realistic
and honest. I always neglected the pains and this is my early detection before it lead to a heart attack or mabye stroke.

THE warning signs have been around.....the only thing that got me to a cardiologist was I am considering weight loss surgery and this was found during PRE-op testing.......so thats what been going on. Am i gonna do the weight loss surgery i have not fully decided for now i have to get my heart desease in order first.
