  • no you don't need to repost ityou just need to have yourself a record of it. Our group totals are in thestickie and I have to say we have the smallest amount to lose of all the teams. Soooooooo we need to get really close to our goals to get our team lost percent up.

    • Am I crazy or what??? :confused

My sister has talked me into doing The Race for the Cure in Pittsburgh this May. I was planning to walk and she is going to do the run. Well, maybe I drank too much water yesterday, but I decided to challenge myself and do the run. This is a 5K run (3.2mi). You see, I've never voluntarily run before in my entire life. I was cruelly forced to do the one mile in high school gym class, but that was it.

So, last night, I started my Olympic dream by getting on our treadmill and jogging .5 miles. Baby steps, but I AM going to do this.... :nod

      • Hey Lynn,
You should go to the coolrunning.com website and look at their "couch to 5k" running program. That is what I have been doing and I can't believe how much I have improved! I am doing a modified version of it. They have you running 5k in 9 weeks ( 3 times per week), but I do each "week" for 1 month ( and I run 4-5 days per week). I hope to run a 5k by the end of summer. You might not have that much time, but maybe you could do each week for 2 weeks. You should check it out, it really works!
        Good luck!

          • Hey, Michele and Lynn--I jogged last night!

I knew you guys would be good for me! Lynn, your post regarding running motivated me to try jogging on my treadmill! Since, we are so close in our body sizes I thought if she can do it I can do it and I did! Granted, I only jogged about a 1/12 of a lap at a time, but I did that about 4 times on a slight incline, so I probably jogged a total of 1/4 mile. Hopefully, tonight I can up that a little bit. Thanks, guys!

              AWESOME!!! :joy Remember, baby steps.

Michelle (Thanks, Michelle!! :wave ) posted a great site called coolrunning.com There is an outline program called Couch to 5K. It's a weekly outline for building up endurance to running a 3.2 mile race. You may not ever have plans to do so, but the program itself looks really great! The first week, you do three 20 min sessions where you jog for a minute, walk for 1.5 min, etc. Taking little bites to work up endurance....check it out!

Lasst10 you are going to have a blast in the 5K. are they starting at the point or in the park by CMU? I did the 20 mile walk for mankind in Pgh back in the 70s and got lost downtown. they had us walking on allegheney boulavard with no sidewalks :yikes cause they wanted us to get to the zoo too it was scary

lasst10: You rock!!!! Right now I could never imagine running a 5K. Just think of the rush you will get as you cross the finish line.

Also if you don't here from me in the next week or two I am going to be moving to a larger apartment. Very very busy, especially with the three rugrats

I grew up in the South Hills and now live up north of Pgh. Small world!!

I can't remember the route. Somewhere in the Shadyside area, out near Pitt and CMU.

I've been SO sick since Thursday, so I haven't done much more exercise than walk the steps up and downstairs...I've had a cold/sinus issues on and off since the beginning of the year.

I'm actually itching to get back to my exercising, but for now, I'll just rest...

...and getting ready for the big snowstorm coming up the East Coast...

                        :joy Think SNOWDAY!!!! :joy

                        • I don't want to see any snow!!!! :anger We are moving on Tuesday and that snow would make a really bad moving day. We have been moving some of the small stuff already, but still need to move the big things.

                          • I love snow, but I must admit, I'm ready for warmer weather!!!

Well, I've been sick for the past 4-5 days and I think I might be getting better. :joy I have to admit, I've not been eating all Atkins-approved meals (OJ and Special K), but I haven't been eating much overall, so I'm holding steady. I just can't stomach veggies or heavy food when I'm sick!

I actually can't wait to get back on track and exercise! At work, they're having a walking challenge during March to walk 31 miles in 31 days. Of course I've signed up, and am planning to do my Walk Away the Pounds (I'll try the 2mile and see how far I can get) tonight.

                            How is everyone else doing?

How did others in the NE fare with all the snow? We've received the low end of what they forecasted, maybe 4 inches.

Trying to pretend I'm not feeling crappy...
