I cant remember where I bought mine but think it was from a health food shop.

BTW I only ever bought the one pack and as I never saw any colour changes I didnt bother to search them out to buy again when they were used up.

Ah, that's interesting...I'm not going to get too upset if they show no change because I already know it'll work for me.

But wanted to give them a try to stop me from weighing myself constantly.

              Hi Angelstar,

I did a search for my local supermarkets, but I don't think the main ones carry it. I think you can get it online and you can certainly buy seeds online if you're into gardening:

                Hello fellow Brits!

I've been coming on here for almost 3 weeks now and it's taken me til now to find here!

Just a quick question re veggie amounts...I've been using the UK edition of DANDR and the veg amounts are given in ounces 8-12oz salad and 5-7oz other veg, I've read elsewhere that these amounts are actually too high...so that I get the right amounts...what size is a US cup? Is it 8fl oz or less?

Oh yeah...another wee question...is chopped pork and corned beef allowed? I can't find chopped pork in fitday and as I buy it loose I don't know if it has carbs or not...it's def chopped pork though not luncheon meat!

                Sorry to be a pain

                Thanks
                Janet

                  Hi Janet from another Brit!

Just enter the pork as 'pork, fresh, raw' and fitday should give a good guess - on the whole you are safe to assume no carbs with raw meat which hasnt been marinaded.

You are right in the UK amounts being wrong - some editor's error in assuming 8 US fluid ounces was the same as 8 US weight ounces!!

                  8 US fluid ounces = 237 mls = 8.237 UK fluid ounces

Down here in southern England most large supermarkets sell the 'Cup measures' - a set of about 5 different sizes for around a couple of pounds as well as 'spoon measures' sets.

                    Hi Elizellen

Thanks for that info...I'm sure I'll be able to find some measuring cups around somewhere...if not I guess I could find a cup which holds 8fl oz and use that instead! I'm sure I've not been overdoing the veg though cos I'm usually a few oz below the weights in the book anyway, but from now on I'll measure cups instead!

Just like to add your before and after pics are amazing...well done on your fantastic transformation!

                        Hi Elizellen

I intend to start taking photos every few weeks or so to prove to myself there is a difference! Once I feel brave enough I'll post them up or add them to my sig!

Things seem to be going a bit slowly now...and my initial excitement over weight loss has diminished slightly I'm wondering about moving on to OWL...I had initially decided I would stay on induction for a good few weeks to get the fat moving before moving on...but I'm nearing the end of week 3 and things have slowed to a stop for both myself and my daughter... we both have a similar amount to lose although her goal weight is a couple of stone less than mine!
I just can't decide what to do for the best I lost 6lbs in the first couple of days and have lost another 3 to 4 lbs since...my daughter lost 5lbs in the first 2 days and has stuck there...sometimes going up a lb or 2!
Do you think adding the extra 5g of veggies would kick start our weight loss again? Inches don't seem to be moving much either!

According to DANDR we are both between high and average metbolic resistance so maybe we should keep on with induction for another couple of weeks...also I've read about having a cheat to kick you out of ketosis and restarting induction...apparently this can kick start the weight loss again...a sort of diet reversal!! I'm not too sure about this though

Sorry to have rambled on...I just don't want to waste time doing something that isn't working...although I realise it's still early days but this is when I expected to see a good weightloss before settling into a more steady amount!

                        Janet
                        xx

OK forget all that...things have moved and I'm another 3 lbs down I think we'll have one more week of induction and then move onto OWL!

                        xx

Many members post that their slowed weightloss after a long time on induction kicks back in when they move on to the first rung of OWL and add those extra 5 net carbs.

Hi welcome to our corner of this great supportive international family

                              As to your questions,

Marmite and Bovril do have a fair amount of salt/sodium so you might need ti increase your water intake to counteract any water retention problems, but an occasional cup in addition to your water should be fine unless the pack tells you otherwise and lists any ingredients like sugar etc.

Here is a quote from DANDR about constipation and avoiding it
                              Supplementing With Fiber
Fiber-rich foods include vegetables, nuts and seeds, fruits, beans and whole unrefined grains. During Induction, your primary source of fiber will be vegetables. (In later phases you will be introducing the other sources of fiber in the order aforementioned.)

How can you get the benefits of fiber without the carbs contained in these foods? The answer is supplementation. I recommend that you take one tablespoon of psyllium husks daily. Be sure to select a sugar-free product. You can also take one tablespoon of coarse wheat bran or flaxseed meal. Although it's derived from grain, coarse bran is pure fiber and therefore it too contributes zero to your carb count. Psyllium husks should be mixed with water. You can sprinkle bran over your vegetables or blend flaxseed meal into a shake.

Drinking the recommended eight glasses or more of water daily is also essential to avoid constipation. You need to accompany any increase in fiber intake with plenty of water.

Be aware that fiber is one place where less is more. Consuming too much can block mineral absorption because food simply doesn't stay in the digestive tract long enough for your body to extract valuable nutrients. Gas, flatulence or constipation can also result. If you haven't been eating significant amounts of fiber, increase your intake gradually to allow the intestinal tract to adjust.

Can you chew sugar free gum, I'm sure I read somewhere the last time I did atkins, that you could, as the carbs are in the gum which you don't swallow, as this definitely helps my sweet cravings, when I get them, or am I talking rubbish?
