Re: Welcome to the Second Time Around Club

It's good to read about all those who are successfully beginning again. I began in Dec. 2003 at 203 pounds, got down to 134 and by September of this year I was back up to 188. It would not have taken long to get back to my all time high. Somehow I found the strength to start again and after some grueling weeks of not daring to go past induction I am down to 166, but slowing down to pretty much a stop. At 5'1" my goal weight is 123, so there is still quite a way to go. I can use all the support and tips I can get!

      Hi Marji

I am glad you have posted over here too, as this bunch of STACers are a great crowd to 'hang around with' for encouragement and advice as well as plain old hugs when needed.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Welcome to the Second Time Around Club

        Thanks, Elizellen,

I was so frustrated this morning to have gained a pound when I was so sure the scale was going to show a drop - esp. after sticking religiously to induction and smaller portions than I would have liked and after my first two days of exercise on the stationary bike after being immobile for several weeks. I know that it is unreasonable to expect a steady loss, but knowing and feeling don't always mesh, do they.

Marji-- your muscle is probably in the throes of repair and is retaining water after reintroducing exercise. I mean look at you! You've already lost 37 pounds! You are the woman, woman!

Muscles retaining water I can deal with. I just completed my exercise on the stationary bike for today. On Tuesday I am going to see how swimming and aqua jogging goes. I am so determined this time to stick to the woe at that I am going to reach my goal. YES!

Re: Welcome to the Second Time Around Club

Well, I haven't posted in here before, but going to now, I just read some wonderful things about this place. I started on this WOL such a long time ago, and got to goal, kept it off for a year or so and then had surgery, which threw me for a loop, depressed me, and brought my Mother and sister running with their love and alllll the comfort food my body could handle, and then some. It took me about a year, but I ended up heavier than ever before, at 180. I recently went home for a funeral (to Ohio) and while I was at my sister's house, I needed something relaxed to wear, and she offered me some of her jeans that she'd 'outgrown'. They were size 16 and 18! I thought.. no way... and tried on the 16's. THEY WERE TOO SMALL. Talk about trauma. I barely got into the 18's and just sat and stared in the mirror for while, and took a good look at me for the first time in a long time. I was unhappy and disgusted. So..... after much debate, and many many tries to go back to what worked for me the first time, and failing miserably, I realized I couldn't do it on my own. So, here I am again. I vowed to make no excuses, take it like a grown up, own up to my failures and do what needed to be done, even if it wasn't easy, wasn't pleasant, and meant that I would have to do things that my weak body SCREAMED at me were oh so wrong! It's a journey, because life is a journey, and this is part of life. The journey sucks absolutely beyond belief at times, but it's what we have to live with, regardless, and the choices we make effect the rest of it and the quality of it. I made my decision to be strong and just do it. There are days I could cry, and feel frail, and give in, and I may not win every battle every day, but the more battles I at least participate in, the more the odds turn in my favor when I have to face my failures and my victories. Every win just makes me more likely to win the next one, because the resulting attitude and feelings feed the positive me, and lord knows, I love to be fed!

Re: Welcome to the Second Time Around Club

Hi Perry.....I started ANA back in Feb 2004, and lost 22lbs. I haven't put any weight back on, but I need to get down to a lower weight, plus I need to lower my cholesterol. ANA has fallen out of favor here in the UK, but heck, I need to get back to a place where my cravings disappear as on the ANA. At the moment I am struggling not to put weight on, but am not loosing any. I am considering going back to ANA, but am slightly scared for my health.

                  Your thoughts?

Re: Welcome to the Second Time Around Club

Hi, I am Dawn and I am not a second time around, but I am starting induction again after regaining 20 lbs. I know where I need to start, and I am starting induction today. I got on the scale this morning and screamed. I used to be a size 2 before I had my daughter. I was always over weight, then in college I lost close to a hundred pounds. After I had my daughter I was back up to 200 lbs. Then I lost the weight by diet and exercise. SLowley over the years I put it back on. Then I went to Atkins a couple years ago and lost most of the weight. I had 5 lbs to go to get to my goal weight, then I went back to being a traveling consultant and regained 20 lbs. Most of it is from eating Peanuts and diet soda, skipping breakfast, even though I could get scrambled eggs in the cafe, and also, I found out that they add sugar to their tuna and chicken salad. For a hospital you would think that would be a no no. Anyway, I was told to come here for support. I haven't posted much in the past, but I plan on keeping up with the posts. Have a good holiday everyone........Dawn

Your going to do this. Now drink your water like a good girl.
We have seen so many folks, (our own 2big for one) who was addicted to diet coke before she started Atkins. I would personally put diet coke on the NOT ALLOWED list because it doesn't help anyone lose weight and it really seems to be detramental to weight loss.

Re: Welcome to the Second Time Around Club

I didn't drink any diet soda yesterday or today. I have only been drinking my water. I am addicted to diet pepsi. I would drink a minimum of 3 20 oz a day. I do have a slight headache, but hopefully it will go away in a day or two. Funny, I went two years without drinking soda before, I can do it again........Christmas party at the fire house, have to behave...............Dawn

Good for you giving up the soda!!

Give it a few days DAWN and you will feel better. Take a little tylenol or ibuprofen if you need to get thru the withdrawals. (Provided they are ok for you to take, I know some people cannot take them)

Drinking a lot of water will help to flush out your system also.

Well, I'm back...again! I've been off and on Atkins for two/three years. The last time I had lost 15lbs when i started March 2005 and ended in may. Now I'm determined to get my body in shape. I'm re-starting induction tomorrow, and i know i'm gonna cry a bit when i avoid the stuff i like.
