I agree! I didn't realize how much I lived off premade foods until Atkins when it really dawned on me -- MY GOD! I DONT KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT COOKING! lol

I re-realized this last night when I decided to be crafty and make some quiche muffins by "winging it" - and they're horribly burnt. LOL. So I think I'll remind myself that just because I followed directions twice and made a decent Cheeseburger Quiche and a decent Spaghetti Squash does NOT make me Rachel Ray and I shouldn't venture off on my own just yet, lol.

I think I'm the same way about the scale. I get SO offended when I only have a 1.4 lb loss or something in a few days - and then I realize.. with Atkins, we're just so spoiled. We eat fantastically and the weight comes off so much quicker and with less effort than the "low fat" plans.. that I get a little greedy with the numbers I want to see.. when I should be ESTATIC about the numbers I *do* see because they're so much better than anything I ever saw on a routine basis with my other way of life! =)

Its also why I couldn't stress measurements enough. You weight flucuates constantly: water retention, TOM, if its morning vs night (you weigh less in the morning), if you've pottied, if your tummy is empty, if you are in clothes or different clothes than the last time, etc.

Another good rule of thumb for weighing in: Do it when you first wake up, after going potty. Do it in the buff and try to make sure its the same time every week. Then slowly step onto the scale, get the results, step off. Do this 3 times and take the average. If you see the same weight 3 times, its safe to assume you can use that number.

Oh! And my menu today I guess is this:

      Breakfast: 1 burnt-ish Muffin Quiche
      Snack: LC Cheese Wheel
Lunch: Tuna Mix (I haven't been creative all week)
Dinner: Parmasean-Crusted Chicken Tenders with string beans on the side in garlic butter
Sweets: Blueberry tea, 2 cup decaf cofee with Coffeemate SF
Carbs: 15.5 carbs/13.1 net carbs/7.4 carbs from veggies

So today could use more veggies, so we'll see around dinner if I'm hungry. Calories just about 1,670 and my fat % is almost right at 64%.

Day one for me and I am so greedy. I cant' wait till I'm actually in Ketosis again. I started exercising last night now that I have the green light. I'm recovering from a horrible bout with acute bronchitis so cardio was out of the question for almost two weeks. My breakfast was awesome today!!

3 sausage links w/eggs & cheese, French string beans mixed in and topped with butter. I am determined to get in more veggies than I have ever eaten in my life! I also started taking a spoonful of ground flax meal with water each morning. I had an awful bout with constipation before (TMI -sorry) I am determined to not have that problem again.

I'm happily the opposite. I have IBS and was a constant um.. poo-er. LOL. So the constipation affects of this diet seem to put me right in the middle at a healthy rate. LOL.

Your starting weight is less than my goal weight. If you want, you can take my 5 pound weight loss and trade me for your 170 pound body.

Also, I did the math and you've lost 1.7% of your body weight and I've lost 2.0%. So really, you're not that much further behind than others. (I know you're not comparing your loss to mine, but I only had my numbers handy. You get the point though!)

One more... if you lost 1.2lbs per week for a year, you'd be down 62.4 pounds, and would probably be committed for anorexia, or dead.

            So REALLY... you're doing GREAT!!
Thanks Effie, Your right. Im putting too much emphasis on what im not losing and not enough on what I have lost. I see everyone's stats and their progress and I feel like im dragging behind. I dont know why that is. Dr A says to expect about a 5-10% loss of the total you want to loose during induction. So mathmatically it would only be 3.5lbs. Then I see others who have lost more that the 10% already in week one (Brittney, Yeah to you!!! ) and I start wondering what could be wrong with what Im doing. 1.7 is pretty good for a week and if I can keep that up I guess I will be down another 10lb more by 3/21.

The week of 3/17 is an important week as I will be seeing 2 of my X's that I have not seen in over 20 years . I know I wont look the way I did back then but I definately dont want to look the way I do now. I want to be in better shape so Im trying really hard not to screw up on this induction. I am in moderate Ketosis so Im happy about that. Maybe im not having enough fat, **** I dont know. I do know I need to exercise which I plan to start that up tomorrow.

Anywhooooooo here is my menu for the day.

B 2 egg scrambled with 2 sausage links and some parmesan cheese
L Grilled Mahi Mahi and steamed Veggies or maybe just a salad (not sure yet)
S Chicharones and some jack cheese
D Shrimp sauted in garlic butter over salad greens.
W Lots and lots of water. At least 80oz and maybe more.

So does this menu seem OK to everyone

Thanks for all the help and encouragment. I love it here!!!

Good morning everyone...well...afternoon here. I probably won't be on much today because I am sick as a dog. Long story short, I have really bad sinus issues (having surgery on the 27th) and I now have the 4th sinus infection in 2 months Not being able to smell or breathe has really twisted todays food around. I have NO appetite at all. I have eaten a little bit:

              1 cup cubed dinner sausage
              2 tablespoons dijon mustard
1 cup diluted coffee (diluted till it looked like tea)
              2 teaspoons splenda
              1 oz montery jack cheese

I normally don't eat my veggies till lunch and dinner, so I will have my total veggies in by tonight. I'm having to be careful with medications too. I didn't realize how many meds have some sort of sugar in them So for right now I'm just toughing it out with my antibiotics...BLAH!!

I hope everyone has a successfull day today! Keep up the good work!

LOL most of my weight came RIGHT away (try day 2) so I can safely assume it was because the night before I started I might have gorged an entire bag of potato chips and a 12 oz container of dip - so maybe it was just a really big poo finally setting itself free or something. LOL.

Your menu looks great. And there isn't a reason to dilute your coffee - black coffee is fine. Are you diluting it with creamer or sugar IN it? Maybe let us know what you put in your coffee, if anything.

Also, I think antibiotics can slow weightloss and can potentially cause a yeast flair up in your intestinal flora (which slows weight loss) so you might find when you're off the antibiotics, your weight loss really takes off! =)

Right now, I did the Spit Test and found I do have a case of the yeasties. However, I'm not doing the treatment for it just yet (diet, supplements) until after Induction because I know I couldn't make it through the first two weeks without my heavy cream or mayo! lol I'm blonde and stubborn, I know.

                  Good Morning!
I am having a terrible time this morning.....very sick and repulsed by food. I am very shaky, heart pounding and feel like I am going to be hanging my head over the toilet any minute and I am very "out of it" Why is this happening to me? I refuse to grab a hefty sugar item to calm it down, though I know if I were to eat a cookie right now I'd feel like a million bucks within minutes. NO I WON'T!!
                  OH MY GOSH..........
                  I'VE HAD A REVELATION.................
ARE YOU READY? I had some coffee when I first got up, no, not decaf...the real stuff. And before bed last night........oh crap! They say caffeine causes your blood sugar to drop low, well that's what's happening to me. I can't believe I never thought of it sooner. Rambling now, but let this be a warning to those refusing to give up their coffee (like me ) IT CAUSES DANGEROUSLY LOW BLOOD SUGAR!!

Even my coffee isn't worth this.

                    • Re: Starting 02/10-02/11??

I guess a lot of health symptoms can be caused by a yeast overgrowth in your body (ie intestines).. things like stalled weight loss, constipation, diaheria, bloating, actual girlie yeast infections, headaches, fatigue, athlete's foot, etc. Yeast feed on sugars and other cultured foods (ie cheese, vinegar, etc) so I guess its estimated something like 89% of Americans probably have some form of overgrowth due to our high-carb diets. Things like use of antibiotics and certain meds can also kill off some of the "good" bacteria/flora in our intestines and sometimes our bodies don't recoup it quickly enough and that leaves a higher level of the "bad" - hence the overgrowth. I tested because I have always had a lot of these symptoms and was curious. My hubby, who doesnt have many at all, tested and showed for yeasties as well!

I don't know TOO much but there is a whole forum devoted to it here so check that out! =)

I guess the Spit Test is.. you set a glass of water on your bedstand. The next morning, when you wake up --before you clear your mouth or throat or do anything-- you spit into the glass. If your spit floats there like a happy little glob, you're yeast-free. Over the course of roughly an hour, it develops little whispy/strandy cloudy tentacles that begin heading toward the bottom part of the glass (or even settling in a cloudy area at the bottom), it shows you have a yeast overgrowth. I found my instructions on a medical website, so folks here may do the test a bit different.

There are 3 steps according to the website I found to combat: diet, supplements and meds I think. Maybe I'm wrong on the three.... don't quote me. LOL.

The two I plan to do are more homeopathic: diet and supplements.

For 5-7 days, I don't eat eat things like dairy (so no cheese, no mayo, no heavy syrup) or vinegar, etc. I have to research a bit more on that food list. At the same time I slowly begin taking supplements that help add back the "good" bacteria (probiotics such as Acidophilus - you see these now in things like Activa cheese and yogurts) and things like anti-fungals that help combat the overgrowth (such as Oil of Oregano, suggested by Julia whose combating this currently).

Others use the KISS diet system to do this (Keep it Simple Sweetie) which may last a full two weeks, not sure, haven't looked into it yet. Both diets are the same idea, you can almost google "yeast diet" and its the same concept.. essentially Atkins without the dairy.

Like I said, mine is a VERY simple random rundown for you, but at least it answers some questions! =)

I was having an okay day, and still am having a good day - dietwise.

But I want to invite you to visit my last journal entry and tell me what you think. (link in my signature.) I can't believe the number of people who won't support me in this way of life, and are in my face about it, as far as long-term health.

I don't see any threads with people warning others of cancer, disease, or anything else to watch out for due to this way of life, so it really bothers me, and I'm very upset. People here are just not supportive. WAH!!

Hey everyone! Haven't posted in here today yet...I don't think anyways! Work was hectic! But anyways, just thought I'd share what I had for dinner tonight.

I used about 4 oz of left over sirloin from the other night.

                          1/2 c broccoli - chopped
                          1/2 c cauliflower - chopped
                          1 tsp minced garlic
                          2 tbsp olive oil
                          Tony Checheres seasoning
                          Sirloin
                          1/4 c. cheddar

I sauteed the garlic, broccoli, and cauliflower in a nonstick pan. Then I added the steak (it was already cooked) and continued sauteing until the steak was hot. I sprinkled Tony's on it and topped it off with 1/4 c cheddar. It was pretty good. I needed to try something different, and it worked! If I do this again, I will probably add a bit more seasoning though, but other than that, I was happy with my creation! Usually I tend to over season, but I'm trying to get away from that.

Hope you all are having a great night! HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

LOL same here. I used a veggie steamer back to do the green beans in 8 minutes in the microwave and then I popped a steak into a baking pan, poured melted butter and garlic salt on top.. then left it in there at 350 for 25 minutes. YAY effortless cooking (sorta)
