Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Of course Former! You may join us. Everyone is more than welcome to join our little buddy group.

I actually don't have any cravings right now, which is nice, but I'm SOOOOO tired. I think I'm going to lay down again and get some more sleep. =( My tummy is hurting like no other. But it's a good thing I didn't weigh myself in the morning today because it wouldn't be accurate. TOM is an evil evil creation. Oh wells! =) I'll deal.

Dinner tonight? Well, I'm going out with some guy, so I'm just going to get a salad and that's it. =) And lots of water, yum yum!

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

I like to keep stuffed eggs on hand for first thing in the morning. I have a great recipe (from a regular cookbook) that uses cream cheese & mayo.

So far today, I have had a cup of steamed broccoli and a cup of raw cauliflower--for veggies. Have to go to the store and pick up more romaine. Strange, but I like broccoli only cooked and cauliflower only raw?! Oh, and a medium stalk of celery with cream cheese.

Protein--4 pieces bacon, 3 oz. buffalo burger, 1 oz. Co-Jack cheese

I had 2 TB ground flaxseed with 2/3 cup water (heated) and 1 TB cream. I found that on this site and really like it. I had to thin mine a quite a bit, though. I would rather almost have to drink it then have it even slightly slimy.

Around 5-6 p.m. I plan on having two fried chicken legs, with skin. I'll also have about a 4 inch section of English cucumber.

I think that covered it so far. On FitDay, my calories so far are 899. The chicken legs will add 311. That still only makes around 1200 calories. I will probably have a snack after I get home (DD's cheerleading practice) around 8:30 p.m. But I will really have to think something up to even come close to 1500 (BMR 1480)!!

Yeah, the hypoglycemia is all my fault. Too much processed sugar. I wish they would have caught that before DD was born--10 lbs.

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Awesome, I love how social you guys are! This group is gonna be great.

I dont suffer the induction flu/symptoms anymore, I think I have tried this diet so many times that my body is just used to it....which may not be good.
And I must admit, I dont cut out alcohol, I just drink premium booze (vodka, gin, etc) with diet pop........is that going to mess up my diet?

I like to use Sundays to prep a bunch of food for the week to help with sudden cravings, etc. I am one of those people who gets cranky really fast when I am hungry and dont have food around that i can eat, so that spares the people around me, lol.

Missnikki217- why not greek salad for lunch? Super low carb, especially if you can get them to sprinkle mozzarella instead of feta on there! Or chicken souvlaki- you've gotta keep your energy up!

Dewdroppin, why not skip breakfast foods and munch on a chicken breast or somethign cooked from the night before? I get a little tired of the breakfast foods myself too, so I switch it up....I love soup in the morning too, apparently eating a warm liquid first thing is really good for you circulation and digestive track...so bonus!

Can you get me that trecipe you were talkign about? Sounds delicious!

Hillbilly- what about sugar substitutes like splenda, sweet n low, etc? I love my suigars too, and they seem to really help with the cravings. I also found this wicked company that makes low carb, sugar free baking goods- tonight I am making caramel explosion brownies- and they only have 3 grams of carbs per brownie! I will get the brand name for you if you are interested, let me know.

I am stoked to have people to chat with about this- thanks guys!

And you guys keep saying to avoid the scale...I weigh myslef waaaaayyyyy too much- how often do ya'll step on that evil thing? I think Ineed to cut down on that!

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Dinner.. hmm.. Feels like a BBQ tri tip night with some grilled zucchini.. or maybe cheddar over broccoli

Hillbilly - I know its hard, especially after your appetite diminishes, but try adding more things (legal) to your proteins. Like, use olive oil when you bake your chicken, or maybe minced garlic. I understand about having to eat a ton not to feel lightheaded.

Former - that was an excellent suggestion. I ended up with a yucky pre-made cobb salad which i threw most of it out - carrots, feta :gross: and the dressing was WAY too sweet. I kept the greens, bacon, chicken, and olives. As for the scale, Im guilty of weighing too much as well. Last time i did this long term, I monitored my progress by monitering and measuring on the 8th day of my diet and every 7 after that. Of course, if I had a binger, or was feeling especially thin I would weigh. . . LoL.. But it is DEFINITELY a stalker!!!! HIDE IT!!! I always take time sunday night to prep for the week as well, but sometimes I get so hungry, I have to do it again Wed. night.. Funny huh? If you click on any of our tickers, it should take you to a site that you can make your own, then copy and paste the BB Code into your signature when you go to modify your account.

Bekka - you're so brave!!! Have fun tonight!!!

                  Danger...dinner tonight!

I got a call from my best friend who wants to have dinner tonight...eternally skinny wench (no really, i love her to death) wants to meet at the pizza place. What am I going to eat??? I am in day 4 of induction and I don't want to blow it but I really don't want to tell her I'm on a diet (in case I fail again). What do i do? Maybe they have a salad or chicken I can eat.

P.S. I am eating pork rinds for snacks...they say zero carbs. Are they really ok to eat on induction? I didn't see anything about them in the book one way or the other.

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Hillbilly- It's strange how the human body works sometimes, doesn't it? From taking just several medical classes (Anatomy and Physiology) I've learned so much about it, but it will still remain a mystery nontheless. I've heard so much about when a person does become pregnant, they can develope diabetes, but only for the pregnancy alone. It then goes away after the baby is born, but sometimes it doesn't and it stays there, unfortunatly. =( Diabetes is evil.

Former- I woudldn't suggest drinking alcohol the first two weeks of induction. Alcohol is added later on during OWL rung 7, if I'm not mistaken. But as you may probably have already read, that you can switch up the order as to what you want to add in first for first OWL rung. But be careful. If you do notice that it does stall you, cut it out of your diet for the time being. You better not be dependent on it. Tsk tsk.

Lesszmore- My friends are oh so lovely. Most of them are busy anyway, but I'm hoping we can spend some time together this weekend because I miss them a lot. And my best friend from last night, well he's a blunt a-hole that doesn't know when to stop talking, so in result, what he says can be hurtful sometimes. And it sucks. =(

Derrty- Dude!! You work at a resteraunt? God, I would be so tempted to eat everything that I cooked in there. You're a better person than I am. That shrimp scampi sounds delicious. Which reminds me, I should force my mom to buy home some shrimp for me. Mmmmm, shrimp.

Nikki- Tonight will be fun, I suppose. I haven't met this guy before either, but he does go to my school and he seems ligit. I'm not even looking for a relationship with anyone anyway until I feel happy about myself and love myself, which will take a long time, but I'm working on it. =)

Kirby- Porkrinds are absolutly fine!! I can't eat them by themselves, but they are really good if you want to bread anything. =) Good substitute. Pizz places should have salads, they always do! So I would get a salad and steal some cheese off of one of the pizza's if you'd like, but don't eat the bread. Be strong and be brave! You can do it. =)

Wow, that was a huge post of stuff. In a way, I feel special that I have you guys to talk to. It's nice to open yourself up to people who understand what you are going through. =) Right now, I'm about to make some lunch and prepare food for work tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be busy and I won't be annoyed like I usually am, but who knows? Anyway, gotta do all that stuff and then get ready for tonight. Ack. I'm shy sheesh!! And wOOt for my headache being gone for a little bit.

Your friend is going to notice that you're on a diet if you go to a pizza place and just eat salad. Plus there's too much temptation there. I'd just say you don't really feel like pizza and suggest a different restaurant, one where you can order something atkins friendly and not feel deprived.

You can substitute lower OWL rungs for higher ones, but not higher ones for lower ones. for instance if you want to go 1, 2, 3, 1, 5, 2..that's fine. But not if you go 1, 2, 7, 4....etc.

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Great, now do I have to try and remember who wrote what to reply?

                          Love your goal, carbless.

Guess I didn't give a totally accurate picture of my sugar problem. It flies under the radar. Although the Dr. noticed it elevated slightly, no one realized that it was effecting the baby SOOO much. AND I DID IT ALL WITHOUT MEDS!!! Actually, by the time I asked for them, I was told it was too late--time to push. Got fixed after that one! Too much info???

It wasn't until last year that I was diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia. That means if I eat a lot of sugar my blood sugar will spike and then plummet. I like to describe it as feeling like someone pulled the plug on my blood.

So, anyway, I am going to forego the sweeteners. I am trying to get away from the "addiction" to sugar instead of just pacifying it. Kinda works for me--you know, the all or nothing type.

I am not counting calories to keep them lower. Quite the opposite. I don't want my body to go into "starvation mode" -- caused by too low calorie intake. I'll try eating more eggs. They seem well rounded.

I like the ground flaxseed/cream hot cereal. It might help if you already like that type of breakfast food. The recipe called for an allowed sweetener, but, I think it is fine without it.

I checked my list from today and I can add 1-2 more ounces of cheese. I found a recipe for "Fried Cheese". I make that, fry/micro pepperoni slices and add a little celery sticks. Wonderful snack. The pepperoni will add some fat, too.

Enough from me about food. How about another topic--who has time for exercise? I always end up putting it on the back burner--you know, got too much else to do type of thing. I could walk, but then I think that I should take the dogs (3 Labs-very well behaved-but still a hassle). If I don't sit around, work outside/garden, keep moving/doing housework, do I still need to make an effort to do aerobic exercise? Yeah, I know I should--but I guess I just lack the motivation. My To Do lists are so long, I would rather spend the energy on them (not to mention DH's lists--which I try to help with--because his just dwarf mine!).

                          Kinda got off topic, huh?

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

What an extremely strange day that I've had...

I mean, I did absolutly awesome with following this way of life to the T and my headache finally went away until just recently.

I know it's a forewarding email and everything, but still, it meant something to my ex and he wanted me to read it and everything. Strangely enough, I miss him with all my heart. I feel like such a witch for having stopped calling him. I still love the guy. I don't give a damn about his age, I honestly don't. I hate myself for taking him for granted. I loved every moment that I spent with him. Oh well. I wrote him back and apologized. He's a very understanding person and I'm sure he will call me tomorrow. I'm hoping and crossing my fingers that he does. Cause honestly, I haven't cried like this since the beginning of March, so he still means something to me.

Anyway, I went out with that guy. I ate a salad like I said, so I did good. The guy is a complete moron, OH MY GOD. Ya, I haven't met anyone as stupid as him in a long time and ya, I don't know. I just think he would be a good friend but nothing more than than. I would much rather prefer going back to my ex than having to be stuck in this situation I'm in. My ex motivated me a lot and without him I couldn't have accomplished what I have in the past few months.

That's all I have to say. =( I feel sad now.

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

O.K., I'm new to this whole support/conversation thing, so, if I overstep or include unwanted info--please, please let me know. That said, I have a headache.

I didn't wake up with it, it's coming on now (about 1/2 hour after waking). A little history here. For years I have suffered from migraines once a month, usually lasting 2 days. Well, the wonderful thing that "change of life" is, now they are MUCH more often at any (sometimes all) times of the month.

This one definitely feels like a "normal" migraine. Two weeks ago, another migraine derailed me off induction. So, I am asking for a little support to help me get through this one without crashing. I know a lot of people experience headaches on induction, and I am not saying mine is worse. But, at least once a month my migraines put me in bed. Others just really put a wrench in my daily activities.

I am a production person and I have a lot of work (I am a stay at home mom who tries to stay up with the normal "wifey" chores while also doing a lot of outside and "hubby" things--which I enjoy more) to do. These migraines really limit me. I lose days each month. I've never actually counted them, but, a rough estimate would be around 10 days of no or limited activity.

Hey, it is still raining here, so, at least, I don't have to think that "I could be outside doing . . ."!

Enough rambling. You know, this is kind of like journaling. Supposed to be good for the mind. Is there a limit to the length of postings?

                                Any suggestions on anything/everything?

Hope all have a wonderful (sincerely) and safe (no cheating) day.

Have several protein items thawing in the fridge. Let you know later what I put together. I have a couple of good low carb cookbooks and found a number of decent recipes on the internet.
