    Re: OWLERS "Stepping Back" thread

    Me, again

I was thinking about the post I just made and remembered that I have been eating an ounce of almonds in my MUP everyday, so I wanted to make a correction and say that I have been eating at Rung 1 plus the almonds.

Thanks for the welcome, Kathy. It may be good therapy for me to post my menus... as some may have noticed, I have never included a link to Fitday in my siggie. I have been posting my numbers in my Stats Journal, but not menus. Not sure what's up with that... I guess it is an insecurity I have that I am doing something wrong or will be judged. Not that anyone has given off the slightest indication that they would... it's my issue. And I don't do anything wrong, anyway. Well, except occasionally (like today) not get 2 of my cups of veggies from the salad list instead of all of them from the other list. There could be much worse infractions. It's just that I am so anal about doing Atkins now, that to me, the wrong veggie thing is significant. I know that I am harder on myself than any of you would be. I also eat at different times of the day than I "should". It works for me, though.

So, here is what I ate today:

Brunch (most days of the week, I don't eat until noon): MUP with almonds

Snack: raw sugar snap peas (these are amazing!)

Dinner: 2 cups of Loaded Cauliflower (cauliflower, cheese, bacon and sour cream) and 3 drumsticks

    1460 calories
28 net carbs, 18 of those from veggie (this was a low day; I usually eat more carbs than this)
    65% Fat
    8% Carbs

      Hi, Joy

I'm glad that you're here. Yep, I love my veggies. I only eat meat once a day. And aside from the sugar free bacon I have maybe once a month, I haven't had any processed meats since my restart. I haven't had to eliminate cheese, but the other dairy has gone for now... will probably stay away until Pre-Maintenance... we'll see.

I eat a lot of meat still, and a lot of veggies. I don't eat those special category foods either--like cream, sour cream, olives, anything fermented or pickled...

Oh, I keep forgetting to add

If you all are missing that winter squash type of texture/veggie. Try to find a FRESH calabaza squash (Spanish Pumpkin). Fitday calls it a pumpkin too...and it actually (according to the University of Florida) has a lower carb count than pumpkin. It has a FANTASTIC flavor, much better than a traditional pumpkin. It smells like a melon when you cut it open. It has the orange flesh like pumpkin, and the flavor of the winter squash without the "starch". http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Cookbook:Calabaza

Well, Michelle... my BMR at my current weight is only 1335. I do usually eat a little more than I did today. As I noted, my carbs were low today. For the past few days, I have been around 35 to 40 carbs... it just worked out low today. My calories for the past few weeks are usually between 1300 and 1500 or a little higher. Before I eliminated the cottage cheese and greek yogurt I was eating between 1500 and 1700.

As you get smaller (and older), you need less calories. This fact bummed me out at first, but I got over it.

                  Hi!
Dinner tonight was roast beef and spinach... still have some veggies left...
Kathy thanks for the idea... think I'll have celery and cream cheese... that sounds good.
Mitzi... what's your recipe for MUP again? didn't write it down last time... I think I might try it tomorrow...
                  not that hungry today...
got a 3 mile walk in... decided not to run as it feels like my 'cold' has gone to my chest... and I feel 'unwell'. I wonder if this is partly induction flu? or just the flu...

We can have raw sugar snap peas? Are these on induction? How many do you eat Mitzi...are sugar snap peas the flat ones you see in stir frys or are they the fat ones you see bagged in the salad cooler of the grocery store?

Liz...I hope you are feeling better tomorrow. You are sure doing well for a sick person with all the exercise and such...sheesh...give yourself a break girl!

                          Re: OWLERS "Stepping Back" thread

                          Hello all

Mitzi - I used to have a fitday link but took it out when I began to struggle with %s. I was kind of worried people would think that was ok. Maybe I should reinstate it.

For today the plan is (and will be unless amended):
B: 2 slices bacon, 6 cherry toms, 1 oz cheese, 2 fried eggs, 1/2 cup mushrooms cooked in pat butter
L: 2 cups lettuce, 1 cup spinach, 1/3 cup peppers, chicken cooked in creamy sauce (from yesterday)
S: 1 pepperoni (I know not fab but is sugar free and I'm finding it hard to replace nuts for portability) and 1 oz cheese
D: chicken breast with spicey rub cooked in butter, cheese (1oz) and 1/2 tbsp mayo, 1/2 cup broccoli, 1/2 cup courgette, 1 cup kale all steam.]
S: Unless die of tiredness 1 oz cheese 3 cherry toms and a decaf coffee with cream.

This is only 23g net carbs! Hard to get enough in on this rung! I should have thrown some more stuff in the salad.

Alexa are you on veggie rung? If so, (and it were me) I'd double the veggies (particularly the tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, courgette) and cut back on a little bit of the protein or CHEESE.
