it's a knockoff sweetener. I've used it since day one so I continue to use it because it hasn't affected me.

Ok, here's my deal. I may or may not be in ketosis anymore but I can't afford to let these last 3 yogurts go to waste so I am going to stick to dairy until they are gone then maybe run back to induction to MAKE SURE I am in ketosis again, then move back up the rungs quickly.

                    Re: OWLERS "Stepping Back" thread

Damn, girls! I walk away for a moment and you get all crazy on me

Emma is correct - ALL vegetables have some natural sugar in them. It's when sugar is an added ingredient that it is not legal. There is no way that all peas are starchy veggies because then snow peas would not be on the list of acceptable Other Vegetables for Induction on page 126 in the book. I'm thinking that Green Peas are a whole different ball game than what we are talking about. The snow peas and sugar snap peas seem pretty alike in many ways, so I went ahead and had them... I can eat from the Starchy Veggie rung anyways, but I really do think that they are safe for induction. I don't have the bag anymore, but if I remember right, there are only 3 grams of sugar (natural!) in each serving and I know there are 7 carbs and 2 grams of fiber for a total of 5 net carbs per serving. That is a very reasonable amount compared to cucumbers, peppers, and jicama, which are the salad veggies that I eat most often.

                    I'm getting some more today.

What great timing DiscoLemonade. I am in the midst of a full blown binge - I had chicken tacos for dinner last night followed by a brownie/icecream dessert, and later had THREE BOWLS of sugary cereal before bed, and then woke up at 2 in the morning and at TWO MORE! I'm pretty sure that the trigger for me was those sweets I had over the weekend that had sugar alcohol in them - it created cravings like I forgot I ever used to have.

For me, I think I'm going to bounce back to Induction for a week or so because I'd only made it to Rung 2 Dairy.

Haven't eaten yet today, but am leaving for lunch right now. Will make good Induction Legal choices!

Well, reporting back down to 180 this am... yeah!
Stuck to plan rest of evening... didn't eat again after dinner... got real hungry in middle of night though... but went back to sleep.
Going to do slim n 6 then eat breakfast... having my cup of coffee right now...
Doing Induction again today after my butternut squash blew me out of the water yesterday! lol.
Then will go to rung 1 Wed.... and maybe thurs... then back to dairy...
I think for me this is a good mental exersize to get back into the book and get strict with myself again... I LOVE this thread! It's totally helping!
                        hugs all around!

I just wanted to clarify that I didn't mean to imply that the net carbs for a serving of sugar snap peas were comparable to a serving of cucumbers, peppers, and jicama... I meant that a "serving" of sugar snap peas is comparable in carbs to the amount of cucumbers, peppers, and jicama I eat in a sitting.

                          Umm... confused now?

LOL... I mean that I only eat a 1 serving of sugar snap peas at a time, and that is 5 net carbs. Whevever I eat a cucumber, I eat the entire huge cucumber... which is about 5 net carbs... but on "paper" that much is considered more than a "serving". Same with the peppers and jicama... I always eat at least a cup at a time. There's not nearly a cup in a serving of sugar snap peas.

It is a bit un-nerving when the name of a food has the word "sugar" in it.

                            Here's the thing about peas...

If the "peas" you are eating are enclosed in a pod and you EAT THE POD and the pea inside is small (like snow peas and sugar snap peas and even GREEN BEANS) it is considered "vegetable" rung not starchy veggie rung. Basically what you are ingesting is the POD and the pea or bean is insignificant.

If the "peas" you are eating are enclosed in a pod that you DISCARD and only eat the pea/bean--like green peas, black eyed peas, lima beans, etc. THOSE are starchy veggies.
