    Mitzi--so basically you're doing Rung 1?

I have a few days to think it over, I guess. The thought of returning to only induction foods/rung 1 foods is absolutely repulsive to me right now. Sigh. I need to eat more fat I think--since I've severely cut back on my cheese and nut intake, I'm never sure what to eat. I prefer raw vegetables (especially at work when I only have about 15 minutes for lunch) but salad dressing and mayo have added sugars. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet on that one, huh?

Congrats on the 2 pounds, Sarah! My cold seems to be retreating, too. I've gotta get serious with the exercise this week. And I'm proud of you for weighing only once a week now. That's how I've done it from the start. I lost all of my weight by averaging a loss of between 1 and 2 pounds a week. That average includes the 7 pounds I lost during my Induction time, too. So some weeks I lost 2, some weeks I lost 1, and some I lost 0. Looking at the scale only once a week kept me sane... I would have gone nuts trying to get excited over a 1 pound loss for the week if I watched it everyday.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------

      SUMMARY FOR MONDAY (DAY 9)

Breakfast: 2 Hebrew National beef franks; 1/2 of a large cucumber

Snack: 1 cup jicama; 1 ounce American Cheese

Lunch: cold hamburger patty; 1 tbsp mayo; the other 1/2 of the large cucumber (worked today)

Snack: 1 cup jicama; 1 ounce cheddar cheese

Dinner: Made beef fajitas (beef, onions, bellpepper, cheese, sour cream)

      Fitday totals:
      1869 calories
32 net carbs (25 of those were net veggie carbs)
      67% Fat
      7% Carbs
      26% Protein

      - Drank 80 ounces of water

      - Took Supplements

      - Didn't exercise. I WILL get some in tomorrow. It's pretty much a given that I don't exercise on Mondays, but it's just lame that I didn't exercise yesterday.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Reflections on today:

      - Day 9 Woo hoo!

      - Calories kinda high today. I don't think it's high for when I'm in Maintenance, but it may be high for trying to lose weight. The calories thing can be frustrating. I am not a believer in a calorie, is a calorie, is a calorie. Meaning, I don't think it's strictly a numbers game of burning more calories than you take in. There's other things involved... and I think the kinds of calories makes a difference. Having said that, I was definitely taking in too many calories over the couple of weeks that I put on the extra 4 pounds. It wasn't water weight... I was eating LOTS of calories, and it put some fat back on me... I could feel it. I can tell I lost some of it last week.

      - Yep, I'm finally starting to feel small again. My prediction is that I will lose another pound this week, and then another one the next week, putting me back at 120. We'll see.

Yep, I'm eating at Rung 1. And I do eat a lot of fat - check out my Fitday numbers. I rarely eat salad dressings. Most of my fat comes from butter and olive oil, I guess. Eating at work is a pain, isn't it? I was sneaking food behind the counter all day at work.

I think if I had a normal amount of time for lunch it wouldn't be so problematic. But when it's all said and done, when I subtract room preparation, potty break, and grabbing my lunch, I usually have about 15 minutes to enjoy my food. And that's being generous. I usually run "errands" (talking with counselors or co-workers, making copies, etc.) during that time, too.

So raw foods/finger foods are the way to go for me. I HATE wasting 5 minutes to heat up my lunch.

Julie, it's critical that you keep your fat up high! You have to have calories and FUEL for that type of running. Keep the carbs LOW and the fat HIGH and the protein moderate. Replace the calories you run with fat calories to STOKE THE FIRE. I would not look to LOSE weight while training for a race. It's probably not going to happen. Your body needs fuel when running...if you don't give it fuel it will TAKE the fuel and probably NOT from your fat stores. Most likely it will cannibalize your muscle. You don't want that to happen. Think...you've got major calorie deficit, and your body is CONVINCED it's under attack with all this running and then you try to restrict more? It's not going to want to release those fat stores, and it will start shutting down any unnecessary life systems (female reproductive system will go first most likely). It's going to go into conservation mode.

I'd reduce the carbs (and keep them veggie pure), up the calories via fat. Keep protein 30%.

The fat is the main problem--It seems that butter and olive oil are out of the question during the day since I eat raw veggies. And I hate animal fats. Bahhhhhh! I wish I weren't so picky!

I'm not looking to reach my goal weight during this training, I'd just be happy to lose the few pounds I've gained from my over-eating.

I know what you mean! That's why I listed a cold hamburger patty as my lunch today... and I needed that tbsp of mayo with it because it was dry. Good though, since I was hungry.

Julie, you should see my desk. LOL I'll have to take a picture. I've got bottles of olive oil, seasonings and stuff like that. I use dill weed and salt and pepper in olive oil to make little dips or coatings for my raw veggies/salads.

What about other fat sources like avocados or coconut oil?

I ate out with my friends today and they wanted Chinese buffet but they actually had some really good stuff, baked salmon, spinach with cheese melted on it, asparagus, mushrooms. My friends are so cute they are always "Can you eat this?" -points- "Can you eat this?" They are so curious about it. I have been eating a lot of eggs, about six a day ('specially since Joy said she ate that many) and they love to eat them! On Mondays when I go to class, I am going to have to boil a dozen eggs instead of a half dozen. But I got a nice surprise this morning, I got on the scale and it said 191.4!

Julie, I have trouble wtih my fat too and I like to eat my veggies raw too without dip. I got me some flax seed oil and coconunt oil and it helps a lot.

Good morning everyone - and Mitzi thanks for the warm welcome back!

I think I did great for my first day back to the basics:

                        B: Raw Cauliflower & Celery
                        S: ChocoPerfection Bar*
L: Pappas Rest: 1/2 Roasted Chicken, Sauteed Green Beans & Tomato
D: Sirloin Steak, Broccoli w/ Butter, Asparagus

                        Calories: 1426; Fat 61%; Protein 35%, Carbs 4%; 24 grams Fiber; 14 Net Carbs

Weight on Monday morning: 190 (my new starting point). I won't be weighing again until next Monday.

That was my last ChocolatePerfection bar and I don't have any on order - I really liked them too because they are so high in fiber. I think I need to start packing some veggies & dip to snack on during the day when I get restless.

No exercise on Monday, but I'll be adding that back slowly starting tonight - still have a gimpy left knee so I may need to get creative.

Okay - better get to work now!

I love avocados when they're mashed into guacamole, and I do like to eat that on chicken. Unfortunately, I really love to eat that with corn chips, which is part of my problem. But I could definitely bring guacamole to school. As for coconut oil--I think I'm allergic to coconut.
