Day five and down another 1.2 lbs! I love induction ........ I can see where it gets so addicting to have this strong sense of ketosis and see the rapid weight loss as well ...... except for getting bored with the food choices I could just stay here forever ......

Mitzi I did my shopping last night and I could not find Hebrew National franks but I did get somethign called Nathans Franks ....... they have nitrates but no sugar and less then 1 carb each ...... I also got some Jones natural sausages which only have 1 carb each and zero sugars.

When I was shopping I also picked up Jicama and an avacado both which I have no clue what to do with ....... so I could use some advice on that ...... I have tried the jicama raw before and do not care for it so I am looking to see if I would like it cooked does anyone have any ideas for me on how to cook it and what it goes good with? Funny thing about the Jicama is When ever I read it on here I have always pronounced it with a J sound as in Jack ....... when I bough tit yesterday I used the self check out isle and when it rang through it is pronounced Hicama ........ you all probably knew that but I had no clue ...... LOL live and learn I guess.

Ok here's yesterdays food choices and totals ......

B - ( Quiche) 2 eggs, broccoli, 2 oz chicken, 2 TBSP bacon, topped with Ranch
L - Hamburger patty with Ranch
Snack - 1/4 cup peanuts ( yes bad bad me)
D - 2 chicken legs, cup broccoli, ranch

    Calories 1502, Fat 62%, Carbs 23 net 13 fiber 6% , Protein 32 %

So my protein was a little high and my fat a little low and of course peanuts are completely a no no, I waited to long for lunch and I was so hungry and at a meeting for work so I just grabbed them ........ Bad bad bad!

I'm keeping my water between about 64-100 ounces a day ....... so thats good.

Ok I have laundry calling my name and dishes as well ......

What's up with the hunger hole. It looks like I wasn't the only one with the extra appetite. Last night for dinner, I ate a little too much ground turkey in my Taco Salad. Needless to say, I can feel it haunting me today.

Hey all, I'm actually feeling pretty good today! SORE, but good. On Fridays I always feel smaller, probably from all the yoga the day before (3+ hours!), and indeed, today is no different. I'm wearing my size 7/8 jeans, I haven't worn these in WEEKS! This week I've focused on cutting out all the extra JUNK (albeit legal) that I'd been eating. I think it's working. I've not gone back to induction yet (indeed I haven't even dropped down any rungs) but have been focused on portion control and bored eating.

And as horrible and fickle and short-term as this sounds, this impending wedding has lit a fire under my butt. I do NOT want to be see-sawing back and forth--I'm going to have to get fitted for a dress, I want to make my body healthy and strong and dammit I want to be firmly in a size 8!

Today is a day of rest for me (I am soooooooo sore) and we'll also have about 7+ hours of driving. I'll bring veggies and maybe some nuts for a "meal" in the car. This weekend I'll be out of town, but should be fine food-wise.

Jicama does not cook well--it stays crunchy. I've made jicama fries with it, but they weren't very good. I've also heard that the fiber is gone if you cook it. I love it raw with just salt and pepper, but some people squeeze a little lime juice on it with some sea salt and it's good that way, too. You can use it in place of water chestnuts in salads and stir-fries. I like it just cut in sticks, dipped in ranch dip.

Avocado was my last hold out. Tried it a few times, but didn't like it. I now make guacamole with it all the time. Just smash up a couple avocados, leaving some chunks, add juice from a whole squeezed small lime or half a lemon, some fresh garlic, tomato and some hot Pace Chunky Salsa (it's sugar free) and sea salt to taste. I also like it sliced on a salad.

          Sunny!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

Elsy & Mitzi: How do you fix your jicama? Are you eating it raw - like slicing it up in the morning & taking it along?

            ///

I am still on track although today I have NOT been hungry whatsover. Got out of the house a little late and with no breakfast, and forgot to remember to go find something to eat all morning. At lunch today I had some grilled chicken and was going to have some brocolli w/ butter to go with it but Chili's brought the brocolli out DRENCHED in black pepper and then the 2nd batch came to the table almost completely raw and all the "cut" ends were darkened like they cut the brocolli up the other day or something. I ate a few bites of the broccoli anyway, but ended up mostly just dipping my chicken in the butter to get my ratios a little better. I wasn't too upset about it because I really wasn't hungry anyway! Love the ketosis ...

OK so I've decided Jicama just might not be my thing ...... I tried it today raw and I'm just not a raw veggie girl I guess so then I switched my plan and fried it up with broccoli and onions and Sunny your right it stays hard ..... not great ...... I only bought two so I thought I would try the second one diced up and boiled like for potato salad? But if it stays hard that would be yuk too ........ Oh well a girl can't do more then try ...... I will give the avacado a shot tomorrow ........ I should have saved these for my veggie challenge now I'm gonna be hard put to find something new for that ......

Heidi ~ I didn't exactly like jicama the first time I tried it, either. It tasted kinda "root-y" to me. After trying it a few more times, it grew on me and I eat it almost everyday now. It has tons of fiber, and I'm a fiber freak. The only way I eat it, is raw. But I eat lots of my veggies raw, so I'm used to it. And I've found that some are sweeter than others... it's kind of a crap shoot what you'll get.

About avocado ~ it is listed as a special category food in the book, and scientifically it is actually classified as a fruit. We may have let avocados slide as veggies in the other challenges... I can't quite remember. I will find out. The thing is, though... there is so much fiber in an avocado, that there are very little net carbs in them. I've been eating them a lot in the past 2 weeks, and usually only get 2 net carbs from the amount I eat (which is usually more than the half that is allowed).

I'm so glad to see you express an interest in the upcoming Veggie Challenge! I'll be the one running the show.

Yep, it has turned out to be a lifesaver for me because it is so portable and easy to eat. I peel them, then slice them, and put them into snack size baggies in 1 cup portions (130g on a food scale). I work in a boutique, and more often than not, I am the only one there. I have to eat behind the counter at work, in between customers. We have a tiny fridge in the storeroom, so I bring baggies of jicama and grab them to eat. I have them with an ounce of cheddar cheese. That helps the ratios, it helps fill me up, and I actually like the taste of having a bite of jicama and cheese together... makes it more interesting.

Just knowing that you are all here at ADBB and are pulling forward with your goals helped me with mine. How great it is to have all of you here. I don't think that this is horrible or fickle at all! Anyone who knows you, knows that you are the LAST one around here to be into this WOE for the short term. I did well today, though I feel I ate too much legal food. I am still using up my diary to get it out of the house. Tomorrow, I am making deviled eggs--they really fill me up and keep me full.

Tomorrow is Farmer's Market day, so I can stock up on real Amish farm eggs. I don't need too many veggies as I am getting a lot of stuff from my own garden. Next week is going to be a real back to basics food week. I am looking forward to it.

                            Good Evening, Everyone

Sunny, it's fun to see you excited about getting back to basics. Atta girl!

Busy, busy, busy lately! Really not enough time in the day. I don't get NEAR enough ADBB time. And I have to work tomorrow.

                            I'll get down to business:

                            -------------------------------------------------------------------------

                            SUMMARY FOR FRIDAY (DAY 13)

Breakfast: leftover 4 ounce pork chop

Mini-meal: cup of jicama; 1 ounce cheddar cheese

Mini-meal: 100g avocado; 1 ounce cheddar cheese; small bag of pork rinds

Dinner: Hamburger patty topped with swiss cheese and mushrooms; cup of broccoli; lettuce with ranch

I really just don't feel like finishing the Fitday thing tonight, so no numbers... it looks like all is well (although I really could have done without that 240 calories worth of pork skins).

                            - Drank 72 ounces of water

                            - Took Supplements

                            - Completed the 40 minute Basic Ab Workout for Dummies workout

                            --------------------------------------------------------------------

                            Reflections on Today:

                            - DAY 13! Yep.

                            - Today was kinda hard... well, actually, it's never really been easy this time around. I miss the shakes, MUP and the Muffin in a Minute. I'll be adding these back in again sometime soon. If I limit myself to these 3 things as my Splenda items, I should be OK. It was the extra flax cookies, bars, and 4 cups of coffee a day that was putting me into a Splenda stupor.

                            * I need to make it clear that I didn't add shakes until I hit Pre-Maintenance. They are a "your mileage may vary" item, and whether they can be tolerated varies between individuals. I wasn't eating until 11:00 everyday, and decided to add them when I was almost at goal. As you see, I have fallen into the habit of eating breakfast late in the day since I am not able to have the shakes now.

                            - Not sure how long I will continue with the Induction foods. My goal was to do it for 2 weeks, and tommorow will be my 14th day. I will make up my mind Sunday after weigh in. I'm predicting a 1 pound loss... that would make 1 more pound to lose to get back to 120. Most likely, I will continue Induction foods for another week... we'll see.

Heidi, here are a couple other ideas for the jicama. If you like salads, cut up the jicama into match-stick size pieces and add them to your salad. If you like raw walnuts (and can tolerate them) the jicama and walnuts on a salad with oil and vinegar is REALLY REALLY good in my opinion.

The other thing you can do with the jicama is to boil it in water with sweetner, a touch of lemon juice and cinnamon. You'll want to boil the water down until it's almost gone. You could then perhaps use a food processor to make it into "apple sauce".

                              ====
My eating was good today. This week I've eaten quite a few restaurant meals and I'm retaining water from it. Not losing weight, but certainly not gaining (except for water). I guess that's okay.

I just wanted to share how I prepare the jicama--like Mitzi, I did not like it at first since it seemed kinda bland.

Anyway, I peel it and cut it up into strips (about the size of french fries) and put it in a Tupperware bowl. I then squeeze half a lime over it and add about 1 to 2 tablespoons of DaVinci Sugar Free Syrup in the Caramel flavor. I put the top on the bowl and shake the contents well then put it in the fridge overnight.
Sort of like marinating it and then it has a tart sweet taste similar to Fuji apples (which I LOVE but not right now ). I really like it this way and it helps tame the sweet tooth as well.

Just bought a chayote squash yesterday and need to read up on what to do with it. Going to the big farmer's market in the AM so hopefully I will find some tasty vegetables
