    Re: Cayenne Pepper

Heide actually carb creep happens to lots of ADBB memebers cause they didn't log and count all their carbs and to say we are processed food eaters or over eating is a diservice to us all. when they complain about a weight loss stall they log and then realize that salad they had for luch had way more carbs in it then they thought as did all the other fruits vegges and herb they used.
Many a shocked inductee has posted crying after having spaghetti squash for the frist time with store bought or homemade spaghetti sauce and then checking the carbs.

Maybe you are a sprinkler of herbs with a light delicate hand but those of us that pour it on get several carbs a meal just from spices and herbs. I took the time to use www.recipecal.com and calulate my homemade sugar free herb mixes and was still shocked at the carbs in them per tablespoon since a recipe for 4 said to add 2 tablespoons.
Betty runs a bazillion miles a week but has a very very low for all that exercise CCLM. those with CCLLs in the low 30s will need to count every carb to stay in their limits and not stall out their weight loss.
Yes use the herbs and spices but be accountabke for what you put in your mouth.

Megs i rememeber the 2T cinnamon roll that had to be admin retitled cause it had too many carbs for inductees.

OK whatever 2big ...I made my point and am done with this silly cycle of talk....those who can and do understand what I am saying will understand the bigger picture ..not the minute fractions in life... .... this just keeps getting more and more silly here....

I am not at all surprised people end up carb phobic ...if you have the compulsion to figure a percentage of a carb then you just go for it.....I on the other hand want to see folks enjoy life and have LONG TERM success by not getting bored..fearing carbs and becoming so obsessed they can not enjoy the simple pleasures in life.......

to each his own...I am outta this loop now

          I <3 Heidi.
I refuse to become carb phobic and deny myself simple pleasures. I like to consider myself a reasonable person and know that I'm not going to add two honking tablespoons of ANY spice to ANY ONE SERVING of food I will ingest. NOTHING TASTES GOOD LIKE THAT.
My weight loss just started up again after I cut back on *GUESS WHAT* CHEESE! It wasn't the berries I was eating, it wasn't the packet of splenda a day I was having in my morning TEA. It was AFTER I started allowing myself berries again. My weight loss may be slow. But it's steady and I am IN LOVE with food. I will not do my body the disservice of eating the same old boring crap everyday.
Just ask n0matter if he would like another chicken caeser salad.

            Re: Cayenne Pepper

Just my two cents: I am liberal with spices, sauces, salt, herbs, garlic, etc. and never bothered to factor them in during or post-Induction. I've only had one "stall" for about a week but have averaged 4+ lbs. lost/week since I started last month. It was hard enough during the first two weeks counting carbs and making sure that I stayed in the 15 gram range. If I went into counting fractional spice carbs during that time, I would have probably just said "screw this, this is ridiculous" and dropped the diet. Some things are better left mole hills rather than making them into mountains.

Sure, if you read about someone wondering why their Induction is unsuccessful and in the same post admitting to eating 40 cloves of garlic with their chicken(wth?), a recommendation to cut back on said garlic is in order. But if you're going to run around this board telling new joiners to count their two leaves of sage as .2453 grams of carbs, you're going to drive a lot of them nuts. It's already a big enough deterrant to people knowing that they have to cut out many of their favorite carby foods on this diet. Lets not make it even more difficult by telling them they have to micro-manage their spices intake too.

              ABSOLUTELY YOU GUYS HERE HERE!!!!

I love eating like this more than any other way of eating ...I really do!!! and I love the freedom that NOT counting everything and eating until you are content (hard for me but a learned behavior)

I curried a lot of food during induction that is for sure and used chile freely ......
my metabolism is not any better than anyone elsees ....

yes 40 clove chicken is extreme but only if you eat all 40 cloves ..I just eat the chicken and one or two cloves...

bottom line ...eat well work your way up the ladder but adding foods not volume to your plate ...and find your content...numbers should not be ruling your life...

Yep, and when I eat that dish, I always split the chicken with my husband, because a whole chicken is a TON of food for me.

You've got it right there, Heidi, about numbers not ruling your life... I love this diet because it's been giving me an better sense of what I should and should not be eating... a true rule of thumb. My hubsand says, "That's what this way of eating is all about. If you're going to get obsessed with numbers, then why not just do Weight Watchers?" He likes Atkins because it's reasonable and survives out in the real world. (And the foods are delicious.)

That was my thought initially...but people do.

That reminds me....when I went on Atkins and was looking for recipes on the net I came across a recipe for a cake made from pork rinds. The reviews said it tasted like and had a similar texture to a carrot cake. I remember the ingredients included something like 1 cup of ground cinnamon! That floored me because whenever I baked cinnamon rolls or apple pie, I never used more than 1 tablespoon for 12 servings!

Anyhow, I think 2Big didn't explain this very clear. There's a difference between tossing a bay leaf into a sauce and eating 40 cloves of garlic. The bay leaf isn't eaten: only its no-carb essential oils are flavoring the food. Eating 40 cloves of garlic is eating 40 cloves of garlic---carbs and oils included.

About 6 months ago, we had a member freak out because they learned that garlic powder had carbs and they apparently used alot (more than 1/4 teaspoon) of it on their foods.

So it really depends on how you use your herbs and spices.

You guys crack me up. Keep twisting the posts. I have never said don't eat a variety of food nor don't eat and enjoy the foods you can have. I said count the carbs in the stuff. Counting carbs is the limiting factor in the Atkins plan just as every plan has some braking system. This is like saying I throw my coins away cause they aren't a significan amount of money every time I shop. masybe the change from your drink, lunch groceries meds and household supllies is small at the time of that purchase but in a weeks time that can be the differnce between being on budget and broke. I didn't creat anybody's metabilic system. I have been blesses with a very high tolerance for carbs as long as I workout but I'm not about to tell somebody reading a topic to not count carbs cause I don't have too like some of you are advocating. God gave us the genes we got and for some folk their carb limit is very small and every fraction counts over the course of a week.

                            Re: Cayenne Pepper

I can appreciate the coin analogy and I understand that you have good intentions here. But I think what most people are trying to say is that they're willing to sacrifice what may CUMMULATIVELY be 1 or 2 grams worth of carbs/day for food that actually tastes good. Only in very extreme cases(like the 40 garlic clove chicken or the 2 tablespoon cinnamon yack-danish) can I see it being enough to actually stall someone, even on induction.

Then again, I'm a relatively new and uneducated Atkineer, so my advice and opinion should by no means be considered sage(get it?!).

OMG 2big no one said not to count carbs!!! I just said the carbs in spices are not worth counting if you use them right ....

if someone puts a cup of cinnamon in a porkrind cake ...aside from making me barf at the thought it is down right dumb!!!!

look I believe it is time to let this one go ...you are not hearing what is being said here ...a teaspoon of cheyenne in a dish is NOT worth counting ok????

obsession vs common sense and pleasure that is what is going on here

see N0matter I understand that, but is should be include those carbs as part of your daily limit and have a bit less of your other carbs so you stay in your limit personal limit.

Some folk eat artificialy beliow their limits so being over daily doesn't effect them like the modified OWLers are way below their limit anc can still be in ketosis eating over the amount they have decided is their amount, but when they go tell others to do the same and those folk are already eating at their limit the bottom falls out of their Atkins.
