Re: Something I never understood about Atkins...

WOW!! YOu guys are attacking him in a cult like manner. This is simply a food lifestyle, not YOUR LIFE. HE's entitled to his opinion. Yes, this diet has many positive aspects, BUT it's got its FLAWS as well, just like any other way of eating. Some of you need to get a grip with reality. Maybe it's time to go get your daily allotment of carbs. I'm eating my apple now and it helps with my mood.

Come to think of it...it would be nice to have dinosaur eggs rather than chicken eggs. Can you imagine, one sitting and you can make your year's supply of scrambled eggs!

Imagine how fun Easter would be as well...chocolate eggs...(not that I'd eat them! )

IF it has a hard time, then why doesn't that occur if one strays from other plans. I'm not dissing Atkins, I'm just stating the obvious. Water weight or not, it can't be healthy for the body to go up like that.

That never used to occur on any other lifestyle. I know of others who also gain 5 lbs overnight if they stray and 10-15 lbs if they stray for a week. HEy, eat some bread and tons of fruit for a week. You will SURELY gain 10-15 lbs. On other plans, you may gain 1-2 lbs.
But did you gain 5-10 pounds of fat? or is that the water sugar in the human body requires be stoired with it in a 4 to 1 ratio? Isn't your weight loss goal to be smaller and lose stored body fat. So your cheating 5-10 pounds has not done anything to your goals other then bloat your body and by your second day back you will be right back hwere you were can you say that with your low fat plan

and another thing if you are on the other low fat high carb plans then wouldn't you have to eat a ton of high fat foods to "cheat" as you are saying you did on Atkins? if you are going to compare apples to oranges in the form of your plans then you have to cheat oragnes to apples with your cheating foods too.

Eating some fruit like cherries is a cheat? I MEAN a CHEAT . Like a normal sandwich and a slice of pie at a party.

I'm not even talking about one day. I know of MANY ppl, including myself, who if go on a vacation or take a week of eating regular foods (not JUNK) or something as healthy as some extra food, being low calorie as well, gain 10 lbs. That can't all be water weight.

Ok forget the sandwich but how about fruit? Why do we gain weight if we eat 5 servings of fruit a day for a week? A banana costs me weight and sizes.I'm sorry I like to go to occasional parties and enjoy a slice of cake instead of munching on a rib . It's life. With this plan, the repurcussions are HORRIBLE!!!

if you are in OWL and have climbed the rungs then having what you are discribing pie and breaded sandwhich should be doable as long as you count those carbs in your normal daily total. Nowe if your pie and sandwhichare full of slat you will retain fluids too from that. so before you blame it all on "normal" and low cal foods check the ingredients and see exactly what your cheating ways are doing to you. sodium willpack on pounds very fast

I guess it depends on how "by-the-book" someone is. If they are very much by the book, then to them, eating fruit (when not on the fruit rung) is cheating.

Sorry, I can't pass this up....so if you go on Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig and then you eat more than your daily requirement of fruit, and eat excess calories and eat cake.....you don't gain weight?? Wow! Quick everyone! Let's go to Jenny's!

I'm not poking fun. The answer is still that for the people that the Atkins plan works for, eating that way is not an option. An alcoholic can't have a drink, Megs can't have wheat b/c her asthma acts up. Is she going to risk suffocation and lung damage for a piece of cake? My nephew will die if he eats nuts. Should he eat some anyway just cuz life isn't fair if he can't? If we have a bad reaction to eating certain carbs then doesn't it make sense that it's because it doesn't react well with our bodies?
