    Re: Buddy List July 21 - 27

    Hello all,

I can't tell if I am staying the same or losing weight. If I weigh myself in the morning I am the same or (gasp) higher weight! Late in the afternoon if I weigh in, I seem to be 2-3 lbs. lighter...do I need a new scale? I just bought this one last month. I'm hoping there is a reason behind this besides a bum scale.

I am beginning to feel better. I have been doing this for 6 days now and I now feel less hungry. Do I HAVE to eat 3 meals a day? Sorry for all the questions. This is all so new to me. I did Weight Watchers in the past... but it was BORING and the meetings were a waste of time. Thanks for listening.

Thank you for the warm welcomes!

monie - a few people recommend that website to me. I love the recipe options!

Bill - it's great that your whole family is involved. Before when I would try to lose weight, I would do it by myself while DH tried to be encouraging, but it didn't help much. It feels really good that he's doing it with me now.

Suzette, I'm scared of scales. I don't even like to do the "Body Test' on my Wii. I don't want to know what I weight right now, but I have noticed my pants feeling looser in the waist.

Hi all. Moneygail I hope your DBH is doing ok. I stress out too when one of my dogs is sick. They are still young 3 and 1, so they have not had any major problems. Give your dog a big hug from me when he gets home!

Suzette-I read on here that you should never go more than 6 wakeing hours without eating. Your lucky that you are not, as hungry. Yesterday, I was not, so hungry. Today I could a whole cow. How many carbs does a whole cow have..lol?

Caramella - Thanks for the tip! I will now go destroy my scale, or at least put it waaaay in the back of a closet. The clothing test is the best!

Cyndi- I've heard you can actually go through sort of a detox by doing this program, which is what I think I am in now. Before starting Atkins I was eating carbs all day long. Now I am kind of queezy when I think of eating.

No more walking for me, I am ruling exercise outtta me life for good, LOL. NO CHEATING. Summer's here we need to look good in our Speedo's, so stay focused, be strong and be true to yourself. Cyndi...if you are hungry then eat...just make it legal and on plan. If you think it is your mind playing with you try a glass of water first. You should be able to eat at or above your BMR and still lose. It is one of the perks of Atkins. If you go too low in the hopes of losing faster it will backfire and put your body in starvation mode where it starts to hang on to everything. Watch your percentages..and listen to your body..they are both good ways to stay on track. Cyndi...you can't eat the cow...LOL...though it is protein.

Joe..welcome back!!!!! One day you will feel like exercising. You will be doing it without even realizing it. Playing with the girls more. Playing with wife more. ALL sorts of fun exercise out there!!! Way to go on the no cheating! You rock!

Suzette...your scale is possessed! LOL! I always weigh less in the morning and put on about 2-3 pounds as the day goes on. If it is stressing you out just put it away until the end of your two week induction. Don't forget to measure yourself as well. If you haven't got the book...buy it...it is a small investment in making this your WOL. Dr Atkins says not to go more than 6 hours without eating. If you are not hungry make it a small snack..like a couple of slices of sandwich meat with some cream cheese and a celery stick rolled up. Or a deviled egg. You don't want to eat too little either. See my comment to Cyndi.

Carmella...take your measurements. Don't step on the scale until your two weeks are up.

Welcome back Joe. Way to go with the walking. Welcome to all the new buddies.

Suzette - about the scale thing, you weight fluctuates throughout the day so it can often go up or down a few pounds depending on the time of day, what you ate etc. My advice is pick a day of the week and weigh and measure yourself on that day only. If you weigh yourself all day long you will drive yourself crazy. And PLEASE MEASURE YOURSELF!!!!
Here's some threads that might help you:

Also, here's what the rules of induction say about eating. I know its hard to get all your carbs an calories in when you have a decreased appetite:
                    1. Eat either three regular-size meals a day or four or five smaller meals. Do not skip meals or go more than six waking hours without eating.
                    6. Adjust the quantity you eat to suit your appetite, especially as it decreases. When you're hungry, eat the amount that makes you feel satisfied, but not stuffed. When you're not hungry, eat a small controlled carbohydrate snack to accompany your nutritional supplements.

Anyhoo, hope everyone is doing well. I was having a crappy day yesterday and feeling depressed and I didn't go to the gym. I went back today and I feel so much better. Its amazing what a little exercise does for your spirits.

Hey buddies, just checking in. I have officially turned in everything that the anat class requires, just waiting to get my grade tomorrow. I even had BF helping me with an extra credit assignment on genetics, hope he had his thinking cap on!!

Now I can concentrate on the CNA course, which is NOT a cakewalk like I thought!! Lots of reading and skills to test out of daily, but it will be ok. I will be a CNA at the end, and that's a step toward RN, right? I am not sure if I will fit into those scrubs though, I need to be in them im 3 weeks, and I am doubtful. I would need to lose 10 pounds, and I have been fluctuating between a total of 12-14 lost, even though I am doing things to the tee, wt lifting 3X a week, not really getting the cardio like I should, but I have been parking at the back of the parking lot at school to make sure I walk more than I normally would.

Darn BF!!! He ate good all week at the hotel.... then, I don't make him breakfast or lunch today cuz he had to watch DB while I ran o the college and took my final. They were out and about with the stroller, and he stopped and had a burger, yep, with the bun! I told him he was a big baby, and that he should be able to fend for himself! Why do that?? He looks so much like his old self, very trim these days, I dunno what he is thinking! Of course he came begging and drooling when I made cabbage roll pie for lunch. Ugh, I need to kick him in the butt!

I haven't been losing... I dunno, BF says I look different, thinner, and I think so too. Wt and inches don't show much, but I plan to stick with it. Whatev, I feel good. Ok, going to study so I can have the weekend off from homework!!! Finally!! I will check in later.

Sorry about the BF Val. Its hard enough trying to be on a diet yourself without having to worry about what someone else is doing all the time too. He's got to be responsible for his own life. I say just worry about what you are doing otherwise you will just drive yourself crazy. You'll get into those scrubs soon enough.

                          Buddiessssssss

I can't believe the trouble I've been having with this site! I tried lastnight for about 6hrs to get on here to post, and it took me about 4 of those to get off one lil post on my climbing board! I was trying and trying to get on here, but at 4:30AM I said enoughs enough.. I'm going to bed. I was so mad It's funny how we can come to depend on being able to be here. I found it made me feel really down when I wasn't able to even read what you all had been up to. But it seems today, that it's working better at least for the moment.

VAL - Way to go getting into your size 14's! That's awesome! I hope your test went well and that you got at least your 90% that you were wanting.

MAHA - I have to say.. the book really helps ALOT! I constantly am found with my nose buried in amungst the pages (normally in the veggies section) and I would be a lost cause if I didn't have the book. I find it's imperative to COUNT the carbs.. I right down everything I eat and it's carb content, so I can stay on track for the rest of the day and still know how many I have left to use. I write down everything though.. water intake.. excercise, if I did it and how much.. even if I have 0 carb stuff.. It's ALL written down. That also helps if you have a bad week on the scale, you can look back and see where you may have gone wrong. But at the same time, what others have said to you about taking your measurements is true! Lots of times people don't lose lbs but man ohh man.. the inches could be pouring off. Keep track of all you do, that's my motto. Congrats on your weight loss thus far and just know that coming here for support and giving it where one can.. is AWESOME!

BILL - Shepard's Pie.. Mmmmm.. I just finished talking to dh about me trying to make one and a potato salad too that are induction friendly. He's game to try them. Maybe if the potato salad was good enough, dh would STOP buying the real deal and putting it in the fridge where I have to stare at it. ~argh~ LOL @ the cereal comment! Thank you for the encouragement and support. Happy to hear it's not raining there, and that you're getting out to the market. I hope your weekend is a good one with the whole family!

MONI - I'm very happy to see that you're in better spirits about your challenges and goals you have set for yourself. That you also for the encouragement and support. I have new news to report on the water and climbing status, but will share near the end of this post. I hope all is well for you, your dh, and of course your dbh.

ELSIE - I've seen lots of recipes that have zucchini in them, but there only has ever been one thing I've eaten that I actually didn't mind the taste or texture of them in, and that was a chocolate zucchini cake that my Aunt use to make when I was a kid. Other than that.. So I guess my question is, how does one get over this or can I? I'm afraid to even buy one.. cause I know I don't like them. I hope you're getting some R&R.

ANDIE - I hope all is going well your way, and that you're having a terrific day.

CINDI - "Eating a whole cow - how many carbs in a whole cow" Have you tried drinking lots of water? I know every time I even start to think of food (other than the real time for me to eat) I just gulp down the water and then the urge passes. That may not work for everyone though? Also as long as you keep track of your carb intake, you could have lil snacks too like mini kosure pickles or olives.. those are just examples. I'm sure some of the more experienced Atkinerz will be able to lead you the right way. Stay strong.. it gets easier with time and knowledge.

MIKE - Have you thought about what "Coke" diet or not does to your insides? LOL Just wondering.. I'm a bit of a grease monkey and know from personal experience, that Coke can be used for 1,000,000 things including cleaning your car battery! That in itself has always helped me to never drink the stuff.. that and I can't, cause there's far to much acid stuff in it. Anyways.. that was just a HA HA blurp.. I'm proud to see today that you are ready to give it up and are staying truly positive about it all! Congrats to you!! You can and will succeed!

ROBIN - Hello to you and welcome to the buddies room. It's a fantastic place to come for support, and it's great to give it to others if one can. Even if you don't know someone may be in need of some encouraging words, it feels great to surprise them with some! In regards to your comment about Cauliflower.. it makes awesome mashed potatoes! MMmmm yummy! I just bought a new thingy lastnight when getting more Induction foods.. it's called a Jicama ( I think that's how it's spelled? ) My Mom says they taste good, I guess I'll soon find out. I will try hashed browns with it I think. I also like you am doing this on my own, as my dh isn't overweight at all. But he's been awesome with supporting me and encouraging me, and he even loves the food! He told me he didn't know diet food could taste so good. LOL Also he's now saying he doesn't want to cook anymore! What the heck... grrrrr hahaha I wish you all the luck in the world Robin, and if you ever need a shoulder you know where to go.

SUGAR - Welcome new buddy I have to say, if you have your TOM and the scale isn't moving.. You should be celebrating woman! LOL Sorry, but I know from personal experience that TOM can gain me as much as 7lbs! Who wants that?? Hang in there, it will get better.

CARA - Wow.. another new buddy! I'm so excited.. lol Welcome to the buddy room both to you and to your dh. Tip#1.. don't call this a diet.. get that out of your head.. it's a way of life.. you're on your way to training yourself how to eat, drink, and excercise to create a healthier you.. making better choices FOR LIFE! I wish you both all the best.

SUZETTE - If you decide to weigh yourself, it should be done after a good nights rest, first thing when you get up before you drink or eat anything and remember to go pee first. LOL Seriously. Also pay mind to what you're wearing, if nothing then always keep it the same, if you were wearing shorts and a t-shirt, wear the same thing so you know it's accurate. It's just a tip I've learned along the way.

JOE - Welcome back from your vacation! I hope it was a fantastic one! It's awesome to hear that you never cheated.. not even once while on a vacation, which tells us all it can be done! Ummm.. and as for the ummm.. well.. *giggles* did you say Speedo Ohhhh my...

                          Well I hope that's everyone ~phew~ if I missed someone I apologize.

Yesterday was a pretty good day for me all in all, other than not being able to get on the board. There was my awesome start with my weight loss and inches lost, then by days end I had done 15 flights for my steps challenge and have now conquered BIG BEN! I'm onto the next building, which is the Millennium Dome and that's already like half done! I also did much better with the water.. I drank 128oz's

As for today.. today isn't go so well. I think after my TOM being scared to show up for the past 5 days, I think finally it's arriving! My dh even commented, because I'm VERY moody today.. emotional.. Anyways.. I just need to take some 's and I'll be better I hope. Geesh.. Also.. I too don't wanna eat today! I made myself eat one thing at 10AM.. whoopee skip.. I'm trying to get my mind into making lunch and dinner.. but I just don't wanna. Ohh well...

I'll check back later.. I hope you're all having a kick @ss Friday!

Ohh and incase some of the lil smiley faces aren't what I thought they were suppose to be.. sorry.

It's happening again.. The pages won't work and I'm unable to send this post! I'll keep trying, I just hope I don't lose all I have written in the process.

Vanessa....good for you for going to the gym today. Consider yesterday a rest day. Just remember not to have more rest days than exercise days.

Val...you can't make his choices for him. And DO NOT feel guilty. He didn't need to eat the bun...he CHOOSE to eat it. Tell him if he keep it up though you will save your energy for something else besides getting up early and making his lunches or cooking all day so he has something to eat on the road. All you can do it make sure your choices are good!! Crossing my fingers on your test results.

Sassy...if you don't like zucchini then don't eat it...LOL...there are lots of veggies out there on the list to try. I am also going to try latkes with them...see if I can fool the kids into trying them. I want to try jimaca also. Ya gotta eat....something small...every six hours...try doing mini meals instead. Last time I was on Atkins I had the same problem..never hungry. But ate my meals anyway. Tried to find more calories dense recipes to help me keep my calories up.

My blisters are popping...OUCH...now very tender. The broccoli quiche looks picture perfect. Can't wait to try it tomorrow. Sassy I didnt cheat as far as snacks, sweets and starches go. However, I ate and ate and drank tons of water so something, (gain/loss), is expected. I hope it a loss,(keeping fingers crossed). We shall see. I did pretty good overall, it's hard walking around Disney and not have one of them Mickey Ears ice creams, sigh!!
