        Re: Buddy List July 21 - 27

Some important facts I forgot to mention in my previous post:

I have been taking the ketosis tests regularly and they have always shown a medium-large to large level of ketones.

I was tested for thyroid 4-5 years ago and told mine was fine.

The book I have is from 1978 I think and is a little different from all that I have seen on here. I figure that if there are success stories from the use of all versions of the book, that I don't need to follow exactly.

I haven't been counting my carbs accurately, and I haven't been increasing them by 5 carbs daily/week like I should be.

I am prepared to begin again on induction if necessary and I have a copy of the recent text available to read. To begin on induction, do I need to get out of ketosis first or just drop my daily carbs back down and cut out the extra kinds of food I have added so far?

I really want to do the diet as effectively as possible in a way that will make sure my weight stays off for good. Whether it takes me 6 months or 2 years, I am committed to it.

Glad to be on the road trip to physical freedom.

It is true that there has been success stories from all versions. You will also find people who swear by low fat. But on this board we follow the 2002 edition so all our advice is from that experience. If I remember right the earlier version was just about keeping to a certain carb count and not as much about where they were coming from. So here we can't really help you when you run into a problem. I would suggest for you to get the most out of your new WOE I think you should follow the 2002 edition as written and just drop back down into induction. I don't see the need to get out of ketosis just to work at getting back into it. I suggest using fitday and lots of meal planning. You can do it!

                Re: Buddy List July 21 - 27

hey everyone!!! how are ya? hope all is well. i am having a better day and feel better about my challenges and my ability to acheive my goals.

welcome to our new buddies, hope you find our little group helpful and supportive.

sassy- wtg on the stair flights. 64 ozs water is not bad, it gets easier as time goes on. great job on the lbs and inches lost.

andie-wtg on the walking DVD's, 2 miles is awesome. i really need to get some, i love to walk, but haven't actually went for a walk since the weather got so hot here. would be great to have those now and when winter comes around.

Elsie-you need to get some rest-sounds like it's time you had a "ME" day, go to a spa for some rest and relaxation. even if it's just for an hour.

cindi-welcome, i wish you much success. it has to be hard for you to have DH away. i bet he'll be pleasantly suprised to see a new you when he gets home. his service is very commendable and much appreciated. fitday gets easier as ya go, especially once you get customized foods entered.

2muchmike-looks like you now know that the diet soft drinks cause you cravings, so it's time to kick them to the curb. get back on track, i know you can do it.

bill- hope all is good for you, tell your DW congrats on getting those walking DVD's.

val-wtg for spitting out that cookie....i know things are hectic, but that was a major accomplishment not giving in. i know you will do great on your test. you are a trooper. oh and that's awesome about the jeans too.

maha-welcome, 11 lbs is great. i've been back on the plan for a little less than 2 months, and i've only lost about 22 lbs, i'm still quite a ways away for 30 lbs lost. exercise really helps though, even in small amounts. i exercise regularly, and can see how much it has helped transform my body. i'm wearing smaller clothes than when i'd lost this much weight on atkins and didn't exercise. if i were you, i'd move on to OWL, i don't suggest staying on extended induction for very long. you've already been doing induction for 5 weeks with the exception of the nuts you had last night. you should read all the sticky's on the OWL forum to better understand the rules and you can take as much time on each rung as you feel you need.

hope to hear from our other buddies soon, seems like a few have been MIA for a few days.

gotta go for now. hope everyone stays strong.

                monie

                  Re: Buddy List July 21 - 27

Tomorrow is the first real day of my 14 day induction period and I joined this bulletin board in order to get some real ideas on how to lose weight. I am happy to say that I have read a lot of promising posts and read some awesome tips for post-induction meals--who knew that cauliflower could be used for so many things?

Anyhow, I know that in real life that i don't make an effort to reach out to new people--I have really low self esteem and the way my work schedule/personal time works out...I don't have time to go hang out with people. At least on here I will be able to write to people and stay in contact.

So I hope that I can help support people after my induction and I also hope to turn to a few of you for support when I feel the need to carb-binge. I am doing this by myself, as my husband doesn't need to lose the weight I do--he's doing his thing and it's going well for him.

I just wanted to say hello to everyone..

                  Thanks!

I just started the diet on Monday with my DH. I would love to have some more diet buddies for support.

So 4 days in and things actually have gone pretty well. I haven't had too many cravings for breads and such. And DH has really helped me to stay on task with Induction. We're even trying to come up with creative recipes for meals that fit the guidelines that Dr A has set. It's actually pretty fun.

                        Just checking in.

Elsie - thanks for the "tough love." You're absolutely right - clearly I can't drink diet coke and stay on track. Not only does it increase the cravings, but there's strong habit energy to have a coke AND a cookie, or a coke AND a candy bar, or chips, or....

Anyway, I vow to get back on track starting today. I REALLY don't want to throw the last month's progress away - I'm feeling too good to do that.

Robin - welcome to the buddy list! You can always turn to this group for support.

Caramella - welcome, and congrats on staying strong for 4 days!

Hope everybody has a good day.

Monie...so glad you are feeling better!!

Robin...welcome. We are here for you. Post often.

Hey Sugar...hang in there...don't cheat. Drink you water! You will get through this. Welcome!!! Remember it is not a race..it is a life long journey. Stay true to the plan and it will come off.

Caramella..welcome! Great that DH is doing this with you as well. We have a couple of couples on this buddy list. Glad you are having fun. No induction flu??

                          Mike...have a great...coke free...day!!! You can do it.

good afternoon everyone. took a day off work today. had to take the DBH(darling basset hound) to the vet this morning. she has an abcessed tooth and ended up having an emergency tooth extraction today. just knew i couldn't concentrate at work, so took a sick day. due to her age DH & i are a little worried that the anesthesia will be hard on her, but the infection was not improving with the antibiotics so vet had to take the tooth. DH ended up coming home at noon as he couldn't keep his mind off her either. we have to wait until 3 to call and check on her and it's killing us to not know what's going on.

welcome to our new buddies. you will find that everyone here is so supportive and always willing to share advice and encouragement. feel free to join in and i look forward to getting to know you all.

Robin-tomorrow is the big day, make sure to get all stocked up and be ready for it. here's a few tips: make sure to drink lots and lots of water, atleast 8 8oz glasses plus another 8 ozs for every 25 lbs you need to lose.
check out this site Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home there a alot of great recipes here and the ones marked with an (*) are safe for induction. also try to strive for a daily ratio of 65% fat, 5% carbs, and 30% protein. many of us use Fitday.com to help keep track of our food intake.

sugarsack-congrats on the 13 lbs. nothing to be down about there....that is really great!!! for TOM, i'd suggest staying off that scale. i try to stay off the scale for a few days before and not at all until atleast a week afterward depending on how close or far away i am for my official weigh in day(mondays). no use in letting a temporary weight reading get ya down. as far as the KETO stix go, i don't even bother with them. so many different things can effect the reading. IE, too much salt, not enough water, too much water, time of day......just keep on following the plan correctly and use the money you would have spent on those sticks on a big ole steak or new clothes.

caramella- it's great that your DH is with you on this WOL. my DH usually goes right along with me, but is not this time. i think he's enjoying my cooking, but does not always eat with me. i'm staying strong and not even the least bit tempted with any of the junk he's been bringing into the house. you and DH should also check out the recipe site i provided in my response to Robin.

mike-glad to hear that your going get back on board. just remember how you felt now when that temptation for those diet coke and cookies hit you again. know you can resist and please don't hesitate to come to the boards if you feel like you need extra support to resist those things.

elsie, zucchini sounds good, how about sending some my way.....lol. i wonder what those oopsie rolls would taste like if ya added a little finely shredded zucchini in them.

hope to hear from everyone else later. gonna go finish up some laundry, trying to stay busy around the house till we can call the vet to check on DBH.

                              Howdy buds!!
ahhh-no rain today--we are going to markets today--need to restock veggie's and such. Family is doing well--Cori is just busy busy! but we'll slow her down a bit this weekend for some quality time with the family.

Elsie--Linda's Zucchinni sour cream, jack cheese bake lasts seconds here.
we steam the zuc's in microwave in covered dish for 10 mins--make sure the mashed zuc's are DRY as a bone--and the cassarole will be perfect-
we cut zuc's long slices--lay out on a cookie sheet and drizzle with EVOO
and broil for a few mins--then add parma cheese and broil a few more--last micro second's before there all gone..only thing eaten faster is the green beans in the fryer--funny--I no sooner pour them onto a paper towel and throw another batch in --look down and there gone!

Warm Welcome to some new bud's!
                              caramella, Sugarsack, rlfrasier!!!

Caramella--I am doing this with my wife and daughter! 3 completely different body types, three different goals, many ins &outs and ups & downs but we learned so much!! and it's the ultimate support system! we are here as--- Billbazz, Jackiebazz and Coribazz.

rlfrasier--Good luck! drink you water! were here for you!!

Sugarsack--love the attitude!!! please post your menu! and it may be the stix!! we had nothing on one brand because it washed out--but Bayer brand worked great--if yours are a wash out--try a cup--
                              Best of luck!!

Mike--Way to show us all how it's done!!!

Hi. I hope everyone is doing well today. I'm feeling starved today. I started watching calories too, so I think thats why I'm hungry. When I did fitday, I could not believe my eyes when it showed 3000 calories a day. Can't believe I lost 5 lbs eating 3000 calories. Maybe with the reduction of calories, if I can do it, I will lose faster. Once again thanks for the well wishes!

Billbazz we are stationed in Grafenwoehr now. It used to be small, but it is turning into the biggest post in Germany now. It has a huge PX/commissary, and they closed the one in Vilek down. They moved the furniture shop in Vilsek over to where the PX used to be. When you drive on to the Vilsek post it is like nobody lives there. The units there that are in Iraq lost a lot of good soldiers, 17 or more in total. It is very sad. I lived in Bamber, but we moved to graf. about a year ago. When my husband gets back from Iraq in a little over a year, we will move State side again. Hopefully, I will be slimmed down for the airplane ride home. Sigh...those seats are very uncomfy even for a skinny minny. My husband is thin, and he was stuck in the middle seat for the plane ride over here. He was hurting the whole time...poor guy.
