Hi Elsie! I went to fitday.com, but I was confused. I have been keeping track of stuff in a notebook. Do you use fitday often? Have you benefited a great deal from it?

Keep trying Cyndi. Fitday is confusing at first but once you get the hang of it it is helpful. Just ask Bill...LOL! You can even enter the numbers from the foods you are eating to get that particular brand. I like it because it shows the percentages. There is a journal area...a weight lose goal area. A goal area. There is another one I see people recommending lately...haven't been there though. I THINK it is www.sparkspeople.com ?? Try that one.

            Re: Buddy List July 21 - 27

Hey all. I've been having little slips here and there this week. I think part of the problem is I'm back to having Diet Coke again. Not a lot, just one or two a day (which is nothing compared to what I used to drink). But I think it's increasing my craving for sugar which is leading to my little cheats. Anyway, I'm trying to stay the course, but I'm only about 85% there. Have been walking every night this week though, so that's good.

            Maharisa and Cyndi - welcome!

            Anybody heard from Joe lately?

Hope all you buds are having a good day.

I want to welcome Cindi to the buddy group and say hello to Maharisa

Mike - everyone has some bumps along there journey, just do your best to keep them bumps and not allow them to become mountains. You're walking and sticking with it.. that's awesome!

Ok.. I'm running out of time, so here's the report. . . Bill, can I get that drum roll please. LOL

After 7 days on Induction.. I'm happy to say I'm down 10lbs and have lost a total of 9.5inches!!!

Mike...Okay....gonna try to give you some tough love here...HA..you thought you would get away with a gentle talk from me..didn't ya?!!! Here is what I have to say...STOP DRINKING THE COKE!!! You already know that though don't ya? The little voices were telling you that the coke might be causing the cravings. So test it. Stop the coke. See if the cravings go away after a day or two. Then give it a couple of weeks and reintroduce it. If it happens again then it was definately that. It could be a reaction to some new food that you introduced...legal or not. Other thing it could be is that you are starting to feel good where you are at. You have lost 29 pounds...you are looking better...feeling better...feeling thinner than you have in a long time. But you aren't done yet! These little cheats are how we start down the slippery carb slope and before we know it we are having a bit more and a bit more and then we blink and the weight is back on. Stop it now. You have the power. Stop telling yourself whatever it is you are telling yourself to make those cheats okay...because they are not!!! You deserve better...you have earned better. Got it???!!! Now for the good part...way to go on the walking!!! Great job!! I haven't heard from Joe. He last posted on the 16 or 17th..the last I checked. I pm'ed him yesterday and haven't heard anything.

Sassy..weigh to go!!!!! That is awesome for 2 weeks. Keep up the great work!

Cyndi...glad you figured out fitday. It has already helped you with the egg thing. It will help find other hidden carbs as you go along too.

Bill...made it through both ways before the hour closure started...thank goodness! Tell DW way to go on the walking DVD's and that she is allowed to push you off your bike if you start riding in circles around her!!

Cori...saw a brand of shredded cheese called Tierra that was Lactose free.

I haven't even read what ya'll are up to, but I am just posting quick to say that I am alive, just down to the wire with the class, and also in the on campus one at the same time. Literally done with the first one tomorrow. I currently have an 87% and one more test to take, so that means I HAVE to do the 2 extra credit assignments tonight!! I would SO be kicking myself if I didn't get an "A" because I didn't do it!!...

That said, I just wanted to tell you guys that I ALMOST just cheated, I put a Thin Mint in my mouth and thought "What am I DOING??" and spit it out, rinsed my mouth, and threw together some blueberries and whipped cream that I made with cream and splenda last night and ate that instead. Whew!!! I am such an emotional eater, and it is finals time, and I am just under so much stress, but I did not eat that cookie!!!

Ok, I am pulled together, going to drink more coffee, get DB to nap, and tackle that extra credit and study for my cat guts test tomorrow!! Everyone wish me a 90%!! I hope he posts grades tomorrow!! I will check back soon!!! XOXOXOXO

**Also fit into another pair of size 14 jeans that didn't fit last week, even though I haven't lost anymore, actually gained a bit, but I have been wt training, so not worried! But yay!!

                        Re: Buddy List July 21 - 27

I'm concerned. I have been on the diet since June 16 (5 weeks) and I've only lost 11 lbs. Although I would gladly continue following this WOE for as long as necessary to reach goal, I was expecting to lose a little faster. I see most people celebrating 30 lb losses after the first month. I wonder if it is because I haven't been exercising enough, or perhaps a thyroid problem? I don't have insurance and don't go to the doctor at all for that reason. I only just found the OWL ladder that I should be using. I will allow myself to eat only these foods: meat, eggs, cheese, fats, vegetables, and last night I had nuts for the first time on the program. I think the nuts are dangerous for me because I was hungry all day today but thankfully able to control it through positive thinking.

Do you think it would be beneficial to me to start over again and do an extended induction for maybe two months or so and then climb the OWL ladder? I have a lot of weight to lose and I don't want to plateau too early.

On another subject, I am considering choosing a very low goal weight for myself (126 lbs) because I want to be able to say I lost 200 lbs in total, and also because I don't want to have any kind of restriction of movement or use of my body. I guess it is way too early to know how I will feel at a lower weight. Today I weighed in at 268.8 lbs which is my lowest adult weight!! I haven't been under 270 since I was 16 (and I had to go on weight watchers to achieve it that year).

                        Any thoughts?

i definitely would not say that MOST lose 30 pounds in the first month. Think about how much weigh that is! When was the last time you GAINED 30 pounds in a month?

the slower you lose the more likely you are to keep it off, and the less likely you are to have loose/extra skin.

I'd say just keep at it, 11 pounds is a great start. Post your menu in the review my menu section to make sure everything you're eating is legal.

Val...I wish for more than 90% on your test. Now that being said...WHAT THE HECK WAS A THIN MINT DOING IN YOUR HOUSE???!!! I know BF isn't on the Thin Mint plan...pretty sure you aren't and I know the kids don't need it..so what the heck are you doing putting yourself in that situation??? Now...congrats on resisting!! We all know how hard that can be. So get them out of the house...bring them to school with you...pass them out...get rid of them. Let us know how you do on your test!!

Maharisa...I really want to encourage you to buy the book. While all the posties and the info here is beyond helpful you still need the book to understand how this WOE works and how you are supposed to be doing it. This is going to be your WOE for life...you need the book not just the cliff notes. I don't think anyone on this buddy list has lost 30 pounds in 5 weeks. The fact that you don't have the book and just found the OWL ladder could have played a huge part in your weight lost. Also the exercising. And while it would be wonderful to blame your thyroid...if you are like most of the people here you put on the weight because of abusing your body...not because of a thyroid problem. If it is your thyroid then the answer is still the same...buy the book...stay on plan..exercise.

Have you been doing a clean induction so far? Are you staying at about 65%fat/5%carbs/30%protein? Have you cut out artificial sweetners to see if that affects you? Are you drinking at least 10 cups of water a day? Are you making sure you don't go over your cheese allowance? See...so many things can play a part in your weight loss. If you haven't been doing the above by the book we use here (2002 edition) then start over on induction. Stay on it a week or two extra if you feel the need to but you should NOT lose all or most of you weight on induction. There are important lessons to learn climbing the rungs that will help gaurantee you keeping the weight off. There are going to be weeks where you lose nothing...and lose 3 pounds or 5....or nothing but you do lose inches. The plan works if you follow it how it is written.

Setting a low goal weight....I, personally, think that is crazy. JMO! Sorry...but why set yourself up for possible failure?? Just so you can say that?? Set a more realistic goal and then you can always adjust it when you get there if you think you can get to 126. That way you can say you did better than your goal. IE...I wanted to lose 150 pounds but I lost 25 more after I meant my goal!!!

You can do this! You have done great with your weight loss so far. Keep going. And come to the board to give and get support!!! It helps to keep on track.
