I take a multivitamin, potassium, and magnesium. The bottles are downstairs. I do the potassium & magnesium before they were suggested to me by members here in order to lose the leg cramps I was getting. I can miss a few days and not get the cramps now, but I'm going to finish out the bottles at least.

My question about this is should I continue to take those even though the cramps have gone away? I am not very vitamin savvy so I don't know what all the types of vitamins are for. Do these ones have any benefits to me other than getting rid of the cramps?

I take a multi and chromium and calcium with vitamin D (cuz we don't get any D from the sun for about 8 months of the year up here). Like Sally, I also take the calcium because I've been in perimenopause since I was 37 or 38 and was starting to lose some bone density. According to Fitday I am a little deficient in calcium so I don't think my one tablet a day would be too much. But I didn't know that about calcium affecting the thyroid (is there anything 2Big doesn't know?? Heee). When I start the dairy rung I'll see if I meet the daily requirements without the supplement.

Yes, the fat fast looks kind of gross and I think as long as someone is losing even 1/2 or 1 lb a week they are better off sticking to the regular plan. At least you wouldn't be gaining, right?

potassium is a water soluble mineral. every nerve impulse in your body uses potasium to generate the siginal so we need it. the bad thing ois too too much of it can stop your heart so folk who advocate take it take it take shouldn't. when your do does your blood work they do a metabolic panel what used to be the chem7 and potassium and blood calcium are two of the things they test for. afew OTC potassium will not put you in danger as they are only 3% of the daily mrecommended amount.
Some folk don't absorb calcium well so they also take magnesium cause it helps do just that amoung other things.

the human body can shed excess calcium in saliva so if your wake up with crust on the back of your front teeth you cot too much. it calcifies the plaque making that crust

i promised to get this in here last night but fell asleep on the couch.

i take a supplement for hair, skin and nails. it has "28 key ingredients" and i won't list them mainly cause i can't read such small print (there should be a law against that) but one of the main ones is biotin.

Wow 2Big! This is so interesting!! Does the potassium actually help with cramps? I heard it somewhere that that was a myth?

I may have missed this already being discussed... but I have a question on the hair loss. Why exactly does it happen? We're eating good veggies and protein in induction, and fruit and healthy things later on. It seems like the crash diets and fasting would cause hair and other problems, but not this WOE. Just not understanding it.

                            you're welcome!

i found the exercise chapter a good read. dr. a says i shouldn't exercise every day. too bad.... i am. not the same intensity but trying to get something in every day for the current 6WEC. i want smiley faces across the board!

i was a little disheartened: on pages 295 and 296, Find Your Comfort Zone, he didn't address us over 50 that get moderate or keep-up-with-2big people.

johnny go lightly / age 50 / bmi over 35
                            light n' lively / age 35 to 50 / bmi more than 30, less than 35
go for the burn / age under 35 / bmi less than 30

where does that put a 50 + yr. old, with a bmi of 24? not that it matters to me but it was an observation i made.
ECERCISE IS NON NEGOTIABLE! this from a late bloomer of sorts. i was moving but not very quickly and not enough.

In January a couple of the girls in my office decided to go to the gym... a step aerobics class, and asked if I wanted to go. I said yes, but I was shaking in my boots. I was still 220+ pounds and that first night I was huffing and puffing, thinking "what in the world have I gotten myself into??". I couldn't do the whole routine for the entire hour, but I never stopped moving, even if it was walking in place.

Six months later and guess who is the ONLY one still going to the gym? *beams*

I gave up the aerobics class for now just because of timing issues, but three days a week I'm in there doing the sprint circuit machines. I'm doing the treadmill at home again 5 or 6 days a week. I'm at a point that I don't think the machines are doing quite what I need them to, my body is needing to move on. I'm going to get a personal trainer for at least a couple hours so I can start strength and weight training and know that I'm doing it correctly.

It might have taken me a long time to get interested in exercise, but I WANT to have a body I can be proud of!

Ohhhh... and I went on vacation to the Eastern Sierras in California this month. I was climbing up and down those mountains, full of energy and had a great time. Six months ago there was no way I could have kept up.

Who would have thought?... ME actually enjoying exercising!
