same here, chrisy. i started out walking with a friend around the sub division. i was right there huffing and pugging just like you. it wasn't long before i could go farther and faster. the girl i was walking with wanted to get our pace but walk longer. i wanted to step it up a bit and walk less. we had gotten up to 1 1/2 hours and it was really cutting into my time back then. we parted ways and she did her thing and i did mine. i had an old exercies bike that was a pain to use but i continued on with that until jack rewarded my efforts with a brand new stationary bike. i have been using it ever since! barbiebabe pestered the heck out of me to join the 6 WEC. that was one of the smartest things i have ever done. now i find myself trying to create challenges for the members, expecially for those that might have 100 + pounds to lose, like the stair climbing challenge.

we both are examples of how our minds and bodies have done a complete 180! congrats on you journey thus far!

Thanks for the links directly to the challenges. I've checked them all out before but I can't be counted on to post my progress. Maybe I can just do them privately and account to myself with. Don't know why I haven't thought of it before.

        Kate,
        you're welcome.
Dr A made it point to give us suggestions on making sure we did exercise. buddy up, join challenges, do spreadsheets, be accountable. i think he knew what we all find out eventually, that it's easy to not do something if nobody is watching.

I just spent the better part of 2 hours just looking through the challenges and printing up some worksheets for myself. I think I got myself hooked into at least 3 of the challenges (stair climb, abs and stability ball pushups). These will be in addition to my bike, ab lounge, Pilates and DVD's. I've slacked off lately and need to get my butt moving good again. If I can stick with those for the rest of the month, I can officially join up for July and post my progress as I have time.

My husband will be happy that I am once again using all the things he bought for me to do this and didn't just waste the money. lol

I am not into "working out" ...I admire people who do but I can not make myself do it at all (I used to run a lot of miles/work out at the gym ect.. and hit the wall one day and could not do it anymore ) ..I am what I think is a good example of someone who has found lots of ways to avoid repetative exercise ..by finding ways to do it that are fun for me!....so I do get PLENTY of intentional exercise just nothing in a pattern ..I hike, I do all gardening in a HUGE yard ...I climb stairs as often as possible ..I live on top of a hill and walk whenever I can.....park forever away from work ...stand at the computer at my work instead of sitting when I am charting so I can fidget (I even have a step so I can move more while typing) .I blast music while cleaning and remodeling and will just start dancing if I hear a song that moves me......I move with intent when ever I can....and if my husband stands still long enough I jump him

anything to make those muscles work the body stretch and the heart rate go up!!!

I was thinking about taking a hot yoga class there is a place right near my work ..but the weather is beautiful so I am going to save it for the rainy season when I tend to become much more lazy than I feel now .....

I believe in the non negotiatablity of exercise moving your body intentionally is so important ...not just for weightloss..but to keep it off ..to keep you moving as you grow older ....to keep your bones strong and your mind up ....

not to mention endorphins ...I just love those

today for my AM work out I am digging a new garden bed ...moving rocks and cutting the grass ...later a walk down the hill and back up again (2 miles steep hill) and to the beach ...it may not be part of a challange but it is a good work out for me!

I found this on MSN this morning - it's very interesting. Seems they have proven that people who follow low fat diets can actually GAIN weight because of the added sugar in low fat products.

"Research suggests that a low-fat diet may not do the trick when it comes to weight loss. A recent Harvard Medical School study found that those on a low-fat (20% of calories) diet actually gained 6 pounds, while those on a moderate-fat (35%) diet lost 9 over 18 months.

                Lose Them:

If you're diabetic, prediabetic, or carry a lot of weight around your middle. All of these indicate that you may be prone to insulin resistance, and low-fat foods, which are likely to be loaded with sugar, could worsen the problem. "Most fat-free foods, with the exception of dairy products, tend to be refined carbohydrates, which will just drive up your blood sugars and overwork your pancreas, making you even more insulin resistant," says McManus. You should also steer clear of them if you have elevated triglyceride levels."

Here is the link to the whole article:

Cristy that is great I never lost my belly eating low fat and I ate a lot of refined flour and sugar ....no energy and lots of slumps ...even though I ran like a mad woman and went to the gym many days a week ..did tons of crunches I still had a tummy the fat just sat there over the muscle

obviously I have almost no belly now ..as you can see...and I totally credit it to this eating style that is for sure!!!

Dur-brains!!! I could have told them that. I followed low fat diets for years. Every January I weighed at least 5 lbs more than the previous January. After following a low-fat diet. It was very frustrating. My dad also kept gaining steadily and was finally diagnosed with diabetes. He then followed the diabetic diet and gained more weight, complaining all the while about how hungry he was. He didn't die from that, but I feel bad because his last few years (he was only 63 when he died) could have been so much better if I had rediscovered Atkins earlier.

is what the book was saying. i think all of us know that if we detest what we are doing, we are not going to stick with it.

interesting article. i found some yesterday that pretty much said we're all gonna keel over. it's always nice to see articles and opinions that some are regarding our woe as a good thing, even when they don't specifically say "atkins".

I believe all those people that say we're going to keel over think we're eating a pound of bacon at every meal and slathering everything in a bucket of butter. They don't even realize we eat things like veggies and chicken and fish and the good stuff.
