      Astrophysics....hmmm....let me think...

NO CAN DO! I've already got an overload of mental gymnastics going just reading up on this thread!!!

FIRST don't let me forget - tonite's the first time I E V E R clicked to go to atkins, to find out I was already logged in after about a day (ususally disconnect just happens(ed) in closing or in a short time ( oh, TOM....)

SECOND...mitziemarie - that recipe picture is on my HIT list -- drooling ---
...but -- how do you know that the labels you use for a source of info are correct??!?
I OFTEN question what I see on a label, due to such things as rounding, errors in translation and typos.... do you cross check the info before entering a custom food into Fitday?

(heck,, the devious could even load Fitday with false info, if desired... I've seen ... some time ago... so get out your salt (take a grain).. and check the USDA database for good measure v. some of the entries in Fitday...

OK I will shut up... ...why should I trust them....?

THIRD . Georgiana - Sorry, I skipped Astrophysics... but if you're willing to try bitter melon, I'll study for you

      4TH - GHB - U R BRAVE!!! - Wattch out i might follow you... LOL

I'm NOT likely to eat that again!!!

OOPS! almost forgot--- veggies \ !!

Today's meals wer more of those prepared on Sunday, with the exception that instaed of chicken with them (and certain seasonings) I had tuna steak, salmon, and beef (3 different ziplock boxes) and in one, I also had parmesan (the tuna); another (the beef) had black fungus (AKA wood ears)... and as I was cooking some more in advance tonight, I ate 1/2 cup raw cabbage. The Salmon dish today did not have sprouts so totals are about the same, I figure, for the net veggies as yesterday.

Only... Should I count the fungus as a veggie???

          Cabbage, Chinese, cooked…1 cup..67 5.3 3.9 2.4
          Squash, summer, cooked…1 medium..131 8.1 14.9 3.1

Oh, I hear you, Susan! I don't trust anything 100%. On top of that, I am sort of... how shall we say it... *anal* about some things. I like exact measurements, and consistency. And boy, oh boy... they can do some strange things with labels, for sure.

Nah, I don't cross check things... I KNOW that I'd find a lot of discrepancies, and I could drive myself nuts with it. I have a few sources that I like, but not one of them has everything I want/need. So I use Fitday as a base, but always enter anything with a label as a custom food, and if Fitday spits out a million things for me to look through when I search something or I can't find exactly what I'm looking for, I use the info from somewhere else and enter it as a custom food. I even have eggs entered as a custom food.

              Yes, indeed!

wood ear mushroom = woodear mushroom = black fungus = tree ear mushroom Notes: Chinese markets carry fresh or dried pieces of this tree mushroom. You're supposed to soak or simmer the dried chips until they soften, and then rinse them carefully to remove any dirt. They're not very flavorful, but they have an interesting texture and are believed to have medicinal benefits. Substitutes: cloud ear mushroom (thinner) OR silver ear (more expensive) OR shiitake

Allrighty, my fellow challengers. I have a little puzzle for you. It's not a requirement for the challenge... it's just for a little fun. I'll give you a day or so to consider, and then post the answers so you can see how you did.

                        Here you go:

                          Another recipe idea:

I have always hated grean beans. But I had only been exposed to the ones in a can. A couple of years ago, I finally decided to try some fresh ones. Oh my! Now THAT'S good!

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

                          TODD'S GREEN BEANS
1 pound fresh green beans *
6 ounces onion, sliced thick *
                          1 tablespoon oil
                          1-2 tablespoons butter
                          Salt and pepper, to taste
In a large skillet or wok, sauté the green beans in oil and 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat about 4-5 minutes or until they start to brown. Add another tablespoon of butter, if needed, and add the onions. Sauté until the onions are nice and brown. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
                          Makes 4-6 servings
                          Can be frozen
                          * You can also use a 16-ounce bag of frozen thin green beans that have been thawed completely and patted dry. I used frozen beans. I used a medium onion plus one small onion to get 6 ounces.
                          Per 1/4 Recipe: 126 Calories; 9g Fat; 2g Protein; 10g Carbohydrate; 4g Dietary Fiber; 6g Net Carbs
                          Per 1/6 Recipe: 84 Calories; 6g Fat; 1g Protein; 7g Carbohydrate; 3g Dietary Fiber; 4g Net Carbs
My friend Nancy's son-in-law Todd came up with this recipe and they're very good. This is a simple recipe yet it has a nice flavor that would go well with just about any main dish. You could make this better suited for induction by cutting the onion back to one small one or about 2 1/2 ounces.

                          ---------------------------------------------------------------

I also throw mushrooms into the mix. Excellent!

love love love green beans. it's one of my favorite veggies. we use to eat them raw, right out of the garden when we were kids.

i'll tell you how i fixed our carrots last night. i shredded 2 large carrots, mixed in some small chunks of fresh tomato, seasoned with a little salt and some dried parsly flakes and topped it off with a generous dollop of sour cream. jack usually doesn't like me mixing things like that but he liked it. he's a big fan of the creamed leeks now too.

O.K., I give! I think I've got 8 out of 10, (oops, 12 out of 14!) but for the life of me I can't name #3 (and I know I've used it!) and I have no idea what #5 is, although it looks like a root from rhubarb. Here's the ones I think I have right:

                                1. white radish
                                2. rutabaga
                                3. ?
                                4. bok choy
                                5. ?
                                6. Brussels sprouts
                                7. daikon
                                8. leeks
                                9. coyote squash
                                10. tomalillos
                                11. shallot
                                12. kale
                                13. radicchio
                                14. jicama
