      January 13, 2007: DAY 13

Here's your SCALE SCOFF for the day, 1/13/07:

I knew it was time to get off the scale when...

I stepped on it and it gave me my phone number.

In all truth I ALMOST weighed today--not out of desire, but of habit. I stumbled blindly, half-sleeping, to the bathroom, did my business and almost stepped on the scale because I am such a creature of habit. If I had been more awake and aware I wouldn't have even thought of it, but I was sooooo sleepy, I must have been on autopilot! Don't worry, I caught myself in time, and still have NO CLUE what I weigh!

Another reason I probably attempted to weigh myself was because of these horrible dreams I had! In my dream, I ate two hershey's kisses because my mother told me they were sugar free. Upon inspecting the package, I realized they were not, and that after two pieces I had somehow ingested 70g carbs. So then I figured "the heck with it" (something I would NEVER do in real life!) and made chocolate chip cookies, bread and jam, and mac 'n' cheese and ATE IT ALL! UGH! I still feel sick from *thinking* about that food...

I almost got on the scale today. I figured with being sick and not eating much the day before it would be a good weigh in. I stopped myself! Yee-ha!

Maybe have Geoff hide it? Remove the batteries? I hate putting batteries in anything and that would be reason enough to not want to weigh.

Oh, I also have those dreams where you are eating a ton of chips, etc. When I wake up in the morning it takes me a few seconds to remember that it was only a dream and that I didnt really cheat.

              January 14, 2007: DAY 14

Here's your SCALE SCOFF of the day, 1/14/07:
              LYING TO THE BATHROOM SCALE

              1. Weigh yourself with clothes on, after dinner... as well as in the morning, without clothes, before breakfast, because it's nice to see how much weight you've lost overnight.

              2. Never weigh yourself with wet hair.

              3. When weighing, remove everything, including glasses. In this case, blurred vision is an asset. Don't forget the earrings, these things can weigh at least a pound.

              4. Use cheap scales only, never the medical kind, because they are always five pounds off...to your advantage.

              5. Always go to the bathroom first.

              6. Stand with arms raised, making pressure on the scale lighter.

              7. Don't eat or drink in the morning until AFTER you've weighed in, completely naked, of course.

              8. Weigh yourself after a haircut, this is good for at least half a pound of hair (hopefully).

              9. Exhale with all your might BEFORE stepping onto the scale (air has to weigh something, right?).

              10. Start out with just one foot on the scale, then holding onto the towel rack in front of you, slowly edge your other foot on and slowly let off of the rack. Admittedly, this takes time, but it's worth it. You will weigh at least two pounds less than if you'd stepped on normally.

Happy Sunday morning, all! Hopefully you're lounging around with no thoughts of the scale! I had a tough workout yesterday and am very sore today--so I have NO DESIRE to weigh today! YAY!

Ok, Adena, prepare the wet noodle.

I have been desparate to weigh all weekend and this morning I did. I just had to know if this was working. Also I told myself it was ok because I need to know my new weight for the bikini challenge. I've gone down 5lbs, so am very happy about that.

BUT I am back on the wagon and have joined the scale challenge for the whole board - 3 extra days as 'punishment'.

                    January 15, 2007: DAY 15

Here's your SCALE SCOFF of the day, 1/15/07:
At the scale manufacturers' convention, people often wanted to weigh themselves on different scales to see if they agreed. However, some visitors abstained, not wishing to advertise their weight. A smooth-talking representative coaxed a woman onto his scale by promising her that he would not look and that she could even cover the digital display so only she could see her weight. "No one will ever know what you way except you" he said to the nervous woman.

She finally stood on the scale, whereupon a loud, mechanical voice from within the machine announced: "One hundred and sixty-three."

Barb congrats on the 5lb. but <whip> <whip> with a wet noodle!

I am not tempted to weigh this a.m.! I don't really feel skinny right now as TOM is winding down. The only time I REALLY want to weigh is when I feel skinny. I guess that's a mixed blessing?!?

Have a great day, and keep up the no-weigh attitude!

Baarb, 5 lashes with a wet noodle for you -- one for every pound! (But congrats on the loss anyway.)

Julie, good scale scoffs.... the sad thing is, I actually do most of the "lying to the scale" tips from yesterday's.

In support of "the board at large," I went ahead and signed up for the board-wide no-weigh challenge. I figure, what's 3 more days at that point? (Okay, 3 more days will probably be pure torture, but oh well -- it's done now.) Anyone else with me besides Baarb for her act of repentance?

I've thought more about weighing the past couple of days than I had been lately, mostly just out of curiousity. I'm also starting to worry... what if I'm not really losing? What if I'm doing something wrong? The main reason for that, I think, is that I wasn't good about using Fitday last week. Other than yesterday (I know I had too many legal carbs last night), I'm pretty sure I've been okay on my carb counts, but without Fitday to confirm, I'm not certain. Without the scale around to reassure me, I've decided I really need to be religious about Fitday -- and water and my keto stix and everything else I know I should be doing that confirms I'm on the right track.

Okay, off to refill my water bottle... 25 oz down, at least 75 more to go.

Hey Adena, I deserve those lashings

I've decided after reading your post that I need to fitday more often too to check I'm on track.

Can anyone answer a question about percentages - Juli I know I got the original figures from you - of fat 65%, protein 30% and 5% carbs but that's for induction is it not? When you start cranking up the carbs how do you know what percentages you're after? I'm on 25g carbs now.

                        Thanks for any thoughts

For me, 25g is around 5-7%. OWL is a hard balancing act, and I still feel like I barely get my percentages right. As long as you keep your protein around 30%, you should be fine.

Adena, I know what you mean about being nervous! I was panicing this weekend (I felt fat)...I mean, how do I know if this is just TOM or if I'm gaining, blah blah blah. I was panicing until I put on this pair of khakis that I couldn't even get past my THIGHS a month ago, and now I can button them, albeit with a killer muffin top hanging over. So, while I won't be walking the runway in these pants anytime soon, I've definitely lost weight/inches because I couldn't even get them on before! This made me feel TONS better!

Here's your SCALE SCOFF for the day, 1/16/07:
I recently had my annual physical examination, which I get once every seven years, and when the nurse weighed me, I was shocked to discover how much stronger the Earth's gravitational pull has become since 1990. ~Dave Barry

TODAY IS THE HALF-WAY POINT! You've made it half-way...how does that feel? Um, to me, that feels like relief! That means we've only got 2 more weeks of this to go. I've been feeling very hefty these past couple days (on and off) and I'm feeling rather huge this morning. I'm also feeling a bit under the weather, so perhaps I'm dehydrated and retaining water? I don't know...

OHHH this challenge is getting to me. I felt huge again last night, I'm not sure why...and I really started to worry that somehow I've been putting on weight and that I'll be HEAVIER after the challenge than when it started. I think it's because I was looking at someone's fitday food journal and I was like "oh crap, I've been eating as much as this guy with huge muscles, I'm doing something wrong." UGH, so I talked to my boyfriend about it, and of course he said I've been LOSING weight, not gaining, and that I shouldn't worry. So I took his advice. This a.m. I feel back to normal, size-wise, but I'm sure that will change by the end of the day!
