No idea on the jicama question! Find Joy, (valid rouge) she is the jicamaholic around here and if anyone knows, she will!

5 miles on my bike today, and upper body strength training. Felt good, but my elbows are sore.... ouuuucccccccccccchhhh!

          OooOooOoohhh we're talking Jicama again!

Normally, I don't bother to cook it. I just eat it raw. Peel it, slice it and chow down. I will chop it up into sticks or bite size pieces and add it to a salad. When you get on the nut rung, a jicama, walnut, lime and olive oil salad with sea salt is sooooooo yummy and refreshing. I have deep fried it, but it never truly gets soft when its cooked. Lyssie, recently deep fried hers and loved it though. So it's a matter of personal preference.

I'm just checking in. New weight - 184.

Umm.. I *loved* the deep fried jicama. but it was in really really thin slices first, it was kinda sweet and stuff. *really* good. I also like it all raw and sliced with some peanut butter, or in the southwestern jicama salad from Whole Foods...

Hey yall....Just dropping in to say Hello! My week has been going great. I've stayed on track and excercised everyday.

I have a question for all of you. After the first 2 weeks in Induction, how much weight did you lose after day on a weekly basis? Oh, and how long were you all in induction before you moved on to OWL?

I just did a 4 mile run. I'm hoping for a good weigh-in tomorrow! I want a loss, even if TOM *IS* approaching! I think I'll wait to take measurements on Saturday morning, as I'll be pretty busy in the a.m. tomorrow.

Elsy--I honestly don't know how much I lost on induction for a couple of reasons.
                            1) I didn't weigh after my first induction. (See #2 for an explanation.)
                            2) I did induction twice. The first time can't even really be considered induction. I hadn't read the book, I was drinking soda, I was eating bars and shakes, and all sorts of foods not allowed on induction. I finally wised up, joined the board, read the book, and got my head out of my butt. At this point I had done 2 weeks of "Induction" and 4 weeks of "OWL", neither of which had been done correctly. Sooooooo, I bit the bullet and started all over again. I DID weigh before and after my second (and CLEAN) induction, and I lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks. Prior to that, I'd lost about 20 pounds (in 6 weeks).

So I guess I count that as staying on induction for 2 or 4 weeks, and OWL for the remainder. Once I moved to OWL, I was losing an average of 3 pounds a week for the first couple of months, then I had a month where I lost inches and no pounds, and then for the next couple of months I lost an average of 2 pounds per week. Now I'm losing an average of about 5 pounds per month, but I'm also currently eating 75g carbs per day.

Hey Elsy, I had a hard time deciding to move to OWL, but it was the best thing I did. It helped me break a stall, that and adding exercise! I lost about 18 lbs the first two weeks I think, started a no weigh challenge the next day, and by the end of that challenge I think I was down 30 lbs. Stopped losing altogether for a month, but I wasn't tracking inches. Started to exercise and measure inches. Since I started doing that I have lost another 28 lbs. I am again in a no weigh challenge, so i won't weigh myself again until June 15th. Bjut all in all I have lost almost 60 lbs since January 8th. That is about 4 months, so about 15 lbs a month average? I eat around 35-45 net carbs a day depending on what I feel like having. OWL keeps me from feeling deprived and bored with food choices and from getting in a rut. It also makes it easier for me to eat in resteraunts and at friends homes. It isn't as restrictive.

Hope this helps, but just curious....... are you comparing yourself to other people to see if you are doing this right? I hope not sweetie, because everyone is different. I used to feel panicked almost that it was taking too long to lose the weight. I wanted to lose 30 lbs a month like I did in month one. But I had to realise that I didn't put all of my weight on in 4 months and it wasn't going to all come off in 4 months. For this to be a lasting change for me I needed to really make this a way fo life. This is very important to me. I don't want to put the weight back on. I want it gone for good. The more time I spend making these habits a way of my life the harder it will be to go back to my old habits. I know for myself that means slowing this weight loss down a bit. So I can really get it into my thick skull that I need to exercise and I need to be careful with my food choices. I struggle with it all the time. i am lured away by sugary treats on occasion, but I dust myself off and get back to the business of taking care of myself. It is hard to be patient, but anything worth having is worth working for. That is what I tell myself when I get anxious or discouraged. I hope I am not assuming anything, it is just that you seem to ask often how much/fast others have lost their weight. I would hate for you to give up if you don't thinl you are doing this as fast as other people or to feel like you have failed in some way. You are doing great and every choice you make for health will only keep you healthy for a long long time. That way we got to see you accomplish all your dreams! Now that is what I call success! Keep going girl, you are doing great!

                                Happy Friday everyone!

Julie, I did exactly what you did too. After I had my baby, I started doing my own version of Atkins and went from 265 lbs. to 230 lbs. It took me a very long 7 months, but oh well. I kept drinking diet pepsi and as much salad, meat, and cheese as I wanted etc, etc. Oh, and everytime there was something to celebrate I would join my husband and digged into the pasta, icecream and so on. After the big splurge, I would feel guilty and start induction again. So that explains that.

When I discovered this site and read a lot of success stories and how I was doing this all wrong, that's when I started again. But this time around, I'm doing it right! I have learned so much from all of you.

Hubby's girl, I ask because I'm just wanting to learn tricks from everybody else and curious to hear your stories. I know everyone is different but still had to ask. It's very encouraging for me to hear about you alls accomplishments and that's why I ask. I want to be able to tell my story too one day. And you're absolutely right about having to change our eating habits and exercise habits for the rest of our life's. Now the I have a baby and planning for another one, I feel especially responsilbe to teach them this way of life and good habits. So I'm starting now at 34 years old. Luckily my baby is still a baby....lol! I have to learn this slowly but surely. Thanks for sharing your success and for your words of wisdom.

BTW, it's that TOM for me starting today and just afraid that when I weigh in on Monday it won't give me an accurate number. But I'm at peace with myself knowing that I have followed a very clean 3rd week on Induction and that I have stayed on track with my daily workouts.

You all have a great weekend and Happy Cinco de Mayo!!
