When I get gas in Idaho I sometimes forget there's no attendant to pump the gas. I actually sat in my car for a minute once waiting impatiently for someone to pump it for me. Luckily my DD11 spoke up, "Uhm, Mom. You have to do it yourself". <oye>

Idaho's the same Right to Work, but they don't see the reasoning behind raising the minimum wage to match the growing economy. The gas attendants in the State of Oregon make anywhere between $7 and $13 a hour...depending on the gas station and time spent on the job. Cost of living? Same as Idaho. Idaho's minimum wage? $5 something an hour.

You got me curious with that statement. According to the official National Right to Work Legal Defense and Education Foundation, Inc.
website, neither Oregon nor New Jersey are "right to work" states.

            North Carolina is though!

Re: Hey I pumped my own gas Today!!!!

When I briefly lived in Nu Joisy, the service station thing was from the taxes and from all those lovely toll-roads, like the Turnpike and the Parkway.

So yeah, it was nice to sit in your car, have someone else pump your gas, and have slightly lower gas prices than New York, Pennsylvannia or Delaware, but you paid for that service through your taxes and through the tolls. I remember it would cost me about $30 a month each for the Turnpike and Parkway tolls. So that $60 plus the income tax, I figured that in the end I was spending the same amount on gas as they were paying elsewhere.

Megs, I was just reading that 5 cents is included in each gallon of gas to pay for that service as well. We don't have tolls here (yet) but our tax per gallon is like 29 cents!

Re: Hey I pumped my own gas Today!!!!

We have a gas tax here in Maryland. It's something like 23 cents to a gallon. It's higher than the gas taxes in DC and Virginia, but our average gas prices are between the prices in DC and Virginia.

The Virginia tax is interesting because they have a yearly tax for having a car. Around here you pay an excise tax when you buy the car, and we get hit with little fees here and there. But, if you sit down and figure it all out, in the end they're paying about the same for their gas.

We have an annual tax for owning a car here too Megs, its based on the blue book values. We pay a tax when we buy a car and then we pay a tax every year that you own it too! And of course registration and tag fees every year, plus we have to have an annual inspection and that includes a 5 dollar city tax.

Regular just hit 3 bucks a gallon here a the place by my house, here near work its about 4 cents more on average!

I dislike having someone pump my gas so much that while i was stationed in Jersey I'd drive out of my way to the base so I could do it myself. I think it's the inherent lack of patience in me. I can't wait, lol.

What's a Right to Work State mean?

WE just got our first Electronic toll highway here a few years ago (it takes a pic of your plates when you get on off) It costs a fortune to travel on IMO. I go about 20 miles on it when i go to the office and it's about $10 that's one way. Luckily it's not that often i have to take it.

For those of us on the east coast, I couldn't tolerate the turnpikes and parkways without my ez-pass http://www.ezpass.com/ Going over the Hudson River crossings between New York and New Jersey is torture anyway, it makes it a little easier when I can go through the lane without stopping.

We accidentally went into the EZ PASS lane on our way home from Jersey. We didn't have an EZ Pass and it wouldn't let us pay with cash. About a week later, I got a lovely picture of my van in the mail with a ticket.
