Nice awards for the 'real lifers' jimmie!!

Thanks for your step info. I was thinking of buying some kind of cheap stool... if I can find one sturdy enough and the right height.
Sounds like you've got flight climbing down to a tee!!

Susan... good for you increasing to 50! I love the idea of exercising your arms on the way down. Going down always seems like such a waste of time. Now I need to find a staircase with two handrails!!

Curiosity has got me, about the stool or the single step method: Do you turn around after placing both feet on the step, or do you put a fut on, push up, then back down and switch feet?

BTW, yesterday total was 71f; today so far at 20f.

susan, i step up with one foot then with the other and then step down with one then the other. that would complete 2 steps cause i never count the downward motion. half way through or with each set i'll stop and change what leg i start with, too.

...so when you step down, you're going backwards? or do you go down the other side, then turn around... LOL (I suppose there are a couple other ways you could do stool steps, right?)

                  the first.
i step up and then step down, no turning around.

it goes faster and i suppose i could get more flights done but for me it isn't the workout that the actually climbing of flights is.

other ways? yeah, i suppose you could do side to side? that might mix it up some.

no kidding, there is a guy in pensacola that runs, jogs whatever you want to call it, backwards! every so often you see him going along in a normal manner but most often he is going backwards.
there was a newspaper article on him and yeah, i think he was a brick shy but still..... backwards!

oh, and he puts the black marks under his eyes like you see football players with and he has a U.S. flag on a long flexible pole that staps onto his belt. he wears shorts, always, never long pants, never a shirt, and wears gloves that have the fingers out of them.

Yea - I'm with you re. the brick shy - the flag and all, but I wouldn't be surprised if going backwards is actually better for you fitness-wise (until you crash into something).

On the step bench-thingy I have, I sometimes go one step up with one foot and bring the second one on top as a follow through and then step back down (going backwards). Othertimes, I step up and then go forward to step down. I would then have to turn around to face the step to go back up. Does that make sense??

That is how I reach something via stool (method 1) and how I traverse a narrow path in the basement which is blocked by an ice chest (method 2). LOL When I go to Mom's attic or up a ladder, I come back down backwards; when I'm using a hand truck to take something heavy upstairs, I go up backwards.

                              "Stair climbing 101"!!!!

This convo is amusing! Actually... when I lived in Libya as a child, my Dad took me into the desert (where he worked) for a week. There were arabs there who'd never seen stairs. They had to be taught how to climb them, or they'd go up on their hands and knees. Interesting the 'skills' we just take for granted.
