Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

Lisa, which watch did you get? I'm in search of a new workout watch, and your may just be the thing I'm looking for...too bad it doesn't do laundry!

Kristine, look at you with those 3 minute runs! *gulp* I realize its just around the corner for me, but I can't help but look up to you!

Today I just walked on the track to break in my new workout shoes. I say they're new because I've never worn them before even though I bought them a couple of years ago. Anyway, they're NB 535 and they seem comfy enough with the exception that they rubbed the back of my ankles raw. Guess I'll have to use bandaids tomorrow so that I can start week 2 training.

I added the cute C25K icon to my new ADBB ticker.

Great job, Lisa ! Day 1 down! You did it! What did you think of Week 2?

You're chart is correct. There is a 5-minute warm-up and then the intervals begin. When the intervals are done there is at least a couple-minute cooldown. Sometimes I do a longer cooldown if I'm *spent*.

Do you like doing the C25K on the treadmill? I get so bored . I am glad I have one though so I can use it if I can't go outside.

      Keep up the great work!

Thanks! You will do it, too! I've never been an athlete and have been surprised at being able to finish the intervals. It's not like it's easy-peasy for me! I really have to push myself to finish and boy is my breathing up there !

When I was trying out my shoes my heels seemed to rub against the back of the shoe. I said something to the salesman and he laced the shoelaces through the very last hole and then my heel didn't slip anymore. Are yours laced up all the way?

That's really cute! It's funny how the lizard/dino looks like it's pulling the turtle across. The lizard/dino is gonna win!

Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

Bio...it's a "Mio" from Walmart "Recommended by Dr. Phil"...and I got the one that counts the calories so it's a bit more spendy than the other ones they have. Well, they had two types of the Mio...one with the calorie count and one without. I've seen other brands on the market. But for what I want, I like this one. It's a plastic band, water resistant, and tells me good things. I like it One word for the sores on your feet: mole skin (okay, that's two, but I keep stock on it for hubby and I'm using it now )...and *sigh* it doesn't do laundry.

Kristine...thanks for looking at my times. I wondered if I was doing it right or not...I know I'm doing it right now. lol. I actually like doing the C25K on my treadmill. I can keep track of the times a lot better and easier. I know I didn't do the C25K right last summer, now that I'm digging deeper into making sure I keep track of the times a whole lot better...but my long term goal is to take this show on the road and get outside. I'm sure I'll be able to do that once I'm not focused on these wild intervals

          Keep up the burn!

Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

Today was week 2, workout 1 this morning. It went ok with the exception of my darn shoes! They feel good when I walk in them, but when I run, my big toe pushes against the top of my shoes. Now they are a bit sore. I think I will have to go out tonight and find a different pair of running shoes.

Kristine, I have to admit, my laces aren't at the very top hole, so I'll give that a try tomorrow when I just walk around the track. I might do a mini jog just to see if any slippage occurs.

I love the lizard pulling the turtle across! That's how I feel at the moment with this training...but I know we'll get through this! I have faith in us!!!

Lisa, I'll check out the "Mios and the mole skin when I go shopping later. I don't want these little sores from stopping my training! The Mio sounds like a great item to have.

I currently run on an indoor track and it has a race clock that I use to time myself. I'm actually looking forward to week 4 when I'll switch from measuring time to distance. I would start on week 3, but I have no idea of how long 200/400 yards is. The current track is 1/8 mile, but they are putting the finishing touches on the new building addition, and so the track will get extended to what I hope will then be a 1/4 mile track.

Do you guys use Podrunner.com music? It's free to download and it changes every week to go with the 5k training. I particularly like the chime to indicate when to run vs. walk...that way I don't have to look at the clock if I don't wish.

Have a great, low-carb day ladies!

Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

Nice job, Bio! Ouch, darn shoes! I hope you can get some relief for your toes I wonder if your shoes are just narrow and you need a wider shoe? I'm not sure if that's the problem for you, but I know I tried on a pair of running shoes that squished my toes and I had to go to a wider style. I hope it's not the problem for you, the money for shoes doesn't fall out of the sky for some reason..lol..

I'd love to be able to run at an indoor track. There's none around me for about 65 miles...just outdoor tracks at the schools. I have a hard time downloading from the one website for the music intervals. I think it's my computer. I might try my hubby's computer and see if I can get anywhere with it. I'd love to be able to be free from the clock and just go...it'll happen some day.

I took the day off for doing anything but clean my house. I burned 575 calories cleaning today I laughed at myself when I said outloud that I should do this kind of cleaning every day. That's bordering craziness, I think. I also caught up on some sleep. I think I've been running ragged for the past week and my body just needed a break. I know I'll be ready for my jog tomorrow.

oh, and I stole that little lizzard guy, too...lol..he's too cute! I couldn't decide between all the great little things that were listed and thought it matched with my mood. I could just imagine being dragged across the road after running...lol...Darn, I forgot the C25k turtle..I'll go add that one on, too.

              have a great one!

Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

Hey Lisa! That lizard looks great on your siggy! Don't forget our 5K turtle buddy. He's too darn cute to leave out.

I looked for shoes tonight, but didn't find a pair that I liked. Instead, I bought a pair of inserts for my old workout shoes to give me some time until I find the right workout shoe. So far, they feel pretty good! At least I know I won't get additional sores at the back of my ankle or have my poor tootsies jammed into the toebox. I inherited my wide feet from my mom (thanks mom!), so that may cause some issues in finding a good pair of shoes.

I'm going to borrow a friend's Mio to see if I like it. She bought hers at Wal-Mart, too, so it shouldn't hurt too much on the pocketbook. That's awesome you burned so many calories cleaning the house! You got that number from your Mio? Neat-o!

Have you tried downloading Podrunner's music via iTunes? You can then "subscribe" to it & it'll automatically download when the new set comes out. It's still free via iTunes. Nothing wrong with an outdoor track...at least those are the standard 1/4 mile track. You only have to go around 4 times for a mile instead of 8 like me.

I'm going to bed early so I can be bright-eyed for tomorrow's workout. I'll mostly walk since it's not a running day, but I *might* run a bit to test out these new inserts before I run in them for real on Thursday. We'll see!

                Have a great evening!

Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

                  I now know approximately how far 200 yards is....saw an article at coolrunning.com about distances. 220 yards = 200 meters = 1/2 lap of a quarter-mile track while 440 yards = 400 meters = 1 lap of a quarter-mile track. So if we run 200 yards, it'll be a little less than half a quarter-mile track lap.

But here's an interesting article from active.com about "customizing your shoes" by how you lace them: Customize Your Shoes With These Tricks | Active.com

The one I will try is suppose to help lessen the pressure on the big toe. They have a short video with each lace technique in addition to the diagram and description.

                  Have a great morning!

bio---Welcome to the sure-footed bipedal world...aka: wide-footed humans....lol. I have the same issue with shoes. I hope you like the mio watch. Just remember to set your weight stats in the watch so you'll get the accurate stats I really liked mine and I think using it yesterday while cleaning made me realize that I can burn calories from cleaning! I'm addicted to the darn thing. That's a cool site...I'll have to check that one out in a minute. I need to change the music out of my MP3....I think I put all the slow songs I ever heard on it. I must have been in a sappy mood that day. lol. Smart you checking out the laps! I wouldn't have thought to look there! dang, I forgot to put the little turtle in my siggy again. Got to do that one!

I was tired and in a hurry this morning to post here...I had to go shop for groceries. Yippee.

My only problem now is that once I start the C25k, where am I going to hang my coat now? haha, get it?

So...I did *most* of C25K Week 4 Day 1. I hit the first 3-minute run, the first 5-minute run, and the second 3-minute run. However, I couldn't finish the second 5-minute run . It was torture and I was wiped .

There was a message I saw on a church's sign/billboard when I was running. I tried to hold onto it during that last 5 minutes...

"God will give you strength in proportion to the strain."

                              I LOVE that!

Hopefully he'll give me more strength on Day 2 ! I want to do the complete set. Perhaps this will be the week that I repeat...

                              Walk - 5-minute warmup @ 129 bpm
                              Run - 3 minutes @ 140 bpm
                              Walk - 90 seconds @ 130 bpm
                              Run - 5 minutes @ 140 bpm
                              Walk - 2 minutes 30 seconds @ 130 bpm
                              Run - 3 minutes @ 140 bpm
                              Walk - 90 seconds @ 130 bpm
Run - 5 minutes @ 140 bpm (I paused the music like a minute in, walked for about 30 seconds, started running to the music again, and then just had to walk.)
Walk - Two minute cooldown @ 130 bpm

Welcome, Irish! It's so nice to have another C25K person to go along with us! I completely understand about the treadmill. Mines in my bedroom and on occasion has been known to be the "laundry basket".

Kristine...that's an awesome message to see while you're out running. What timing! I think that's awesome that you made the running time that you did. Nice job!!! It's about pacing and working on the time a little at a time...goals. I think it was Mitzi tha said she had to repeat a week or something like that. I'm planning on having to repeat a week...cushion room. lol. I'll pray for strength for all of us...doesn't hurt to be covered in it to get through each day, especially us C25K'ers..... You're right, I do feel good after doing W2D2 today....we went for a walk this evening and I actually zipped down the road and left my family in the dust. ha!

Nighty night! Rest those bones tonight!
