Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

Bio, how cool would that be for you to do tha this Nov! What a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving. I was thinking of signing up for a 5k, but not until I'm sure footed into running and not wanting to crawl on the curb to take a nap..lol. There's a few in Boise and there's always one Mother's Day weekend; although that one's a year from now. I'm glad you have the TJ and like it! I have a 20 min DVD of hers and really like it...I had a 45 min one and it got magnatized and erased by being sat on the DVD player (don't set those things on there!). I'm hoping it'll be a great change up and fun thing to do.

Irishmom...ha ha..rainy day, I caught that you treadmill runner you Well, about the breathing part...I pretty much have to remind myself to take breathes in and out and not so fast. In through the nose and out from the mouth. But then again, I guess we become heavy breathers at the beginning. Kind of like reminding yourself to walk/jog heel to toe...that's one idea I got from another runner. Gee, if we have to pay attention to our breathing and our gait, how the heck do we have time to pay attention to the time and where we're going! lol. That's funny about the mile and the difference. I was thinking maybe because you were actually walking faster this time? I don't know...just a guess!

Woo hooo for Day 3...no matter what week we're on!

Hi Ladies! You all have been doing a remarkable job. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to continue the C25K anytime soon. I met with a Sports Medicine doc today. Here's the scoop (post #47). I start physical therapy on Tuesday and have a follow up with the Sports Med doc on August 13.

Keep it up! Stay strong! I look forward to following your progress.

Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

Irish mom is a jokester! I love that! hee hee!!! I second what Lisa said about breathing. I did worry about breathing "properly" when I first started, but with all the other stuff I had to keep track of, something had to go, so I stopped paying attention to my breathing while I'm exercising. As long as I DO breathe and not hold my breathe, I'm ok.

Lisa, I had no idea that a DVD could become magnetized on top of a DVD player! Well, I guess I know what I"m doing when I go home this evening! LOL I have quite a few BB workout videos and I like them all. Took me awhile to like Charlene because of her fancy feet and my heavy footfalls, but I like her now. As far as a race goes, I bet there's lots of races that go on in your town & you just haven't noticed before.

Lemme see, with Google, I found: the Boise Y Striders www.boiseystriders.org
The Bandanna Running and Walking store has a very nice list of events in your area
        Bandanna Running and Walking
and then there's Running Races with another list of events in Idaho. seems like there are tons of walkers, joggers, & runners in your state!

When I get brave enough to run outside, I'm going to try MapMyRun.com - Map your Running Routes. Find Runs. Calculate Calories, Pedometer, Distance, and More. to see how far my route is and I think it will also tell you the elevation of the hills and such. I'm making sure my first time out is FLAT! LOL

Oh Kristine! That's sounds so painful! I do hope that PT will fix you in a jiffy!
Here's the specific post from Kristine's journal: The scoop. Sounds like you can't do your clogging either! I'll certainly keep you in my thoughts & prayers and will cheer you on when you start training again!

Wow, Kristine! You've got a great doc who told you a great deal of what to deal with...and that motivation that you may be able to start again once you're closer to goal weight. Oh, I hope you'll be able to clog soon again. I think PT makes a person sweat, so there's some exercise. I hope you get lots of great help and exercise advise from the PT person!

Bio---golly, your are efficent and proficient! Thanks for the help Now I have no excuse of being a chicken to join one, huh? lol. I'm with you, I can't wait to take this show in the road outside because I know it'll be good for me mentally to start planning further goals and meeting goals. That site about the maps looks great! lol@ first time out being flat...that's a great goal. We have a track at the highschool but it gets overrun by mosquitos and students...I hate being outran by both. Yeah, I found out the hard way with the DVD being errased...it's an expensive leson! lol.

Irishmom---how you breathing today? Maybe we should invest in oxygen tanks for the first 4 weeks of this training...

          Have a great one!

The folks in Boise look like serious runners....kind of like a wolf pack ready to chow down on a new puppy runner. But on the Banadana site...there's a closer 5k to me called the "Turkey Trot" this Thanksgiving. Do they know my extended relatives or what???

The Turkey Trot!!! If you sign up for that one, it'll almost be like we're running together. I'll cheer for you regardless of which race you participate in. Oh, Lisa--just so you know...I had to get a different keyboard because I spilled water all over my other one due to laughing at your post about getting outrun by mosquitos and students. LOLOL

I'll have to ask around about how accurate that mapmyrun.com site is. There are a few runners in my building. Surely one of them has used that site before.

Hey Irish--how did you do on running? Hang in there!

I'm seriously considering doing the Turkey Trot because it's so darn close and I have a good friend of mine who likes to walk alot. That would be so cool if we could do it together! We'll have to find some smart photoshop person to merge our pictures together as if we were at the same place...lol.. You know, I'd almost feel slightly guilty for knowing that I caused you to get a different key board while the other one was drying out...but I'm so proud of you for drinking your water! lol...

Maybe I could come up with some kind of flyswatter for runners. It could be multipurpose: moves students and mosquitos out of the way.

Re: Calling all new C25K participants!!!

Okay, Week 3/Day 3 is done and in the bag.

I can't tell whether or not I'm ready for week 4. I really struggled this morning trying to get through the first reps, but that was probably all mental. I did push myself in the last rep of jog/walk to a faster pace to try to get the most out of the sweat beginning to pool. Overall, as I type this, I'll plan on moving to week 4 starting Monday and see how the first day goes. I figure it this way: if I made it through each day of week 3 without stopping and passing out, falling off the treadmill and hitting the wall, or in too much pain...I'm ready to give week 4 a try.

We're going camping again this weekend and I plan on getting some hiking and walking done like I did last weekend. I left a pretty please note for my mom to check our mail while we're gone just in case my Turbo Jam happens to arrive while we're away....I'm hoping snail media mail gets here soon!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! Play hard!

Don't worry about the keyboard. I'm using it again & it *mostly* works now. The T key sticks a bit, but I'm hoping that it will cure itself over time. And I DO drink a lot of water, so that's never a problem.

My week 3 ended ok. No real disasters. I think I will also go on to week 4 and see how that goes. I can always go back to 3 if 4 is making me wheeze or keel over.

Lisa, when you design that special flyswatter, I want one! LOL Enjoy your hiking! That sounds like a lot of fun!!!

Irish mom, how are you doing? Breathing still?

Clogger, I know you're around and trying to heal. Stay in touch!

Amazingly enough I am still breathing...barely, LOL.

So last night I was thinking about things and starting week 2 on Monday. Well you know what I realized? I realized that I have been including my five minute walk/warm up in the 20 minute job/walk cycle. I was thinking that it was too easy. What it should be is 5 minutes of warmup and THEN 20 minutes or jog/walk cycles. Duh, I'm an idiot.

So today I did day three correctly. I did 5 minutes of warmups and 20 minutes of jog/walk this ended up to be a total of 25 minutes! It was really hard. By the time I hit the second to last jog I was ready to die! ". Not to mention I was soaking wet. I've never sweated so much in my life! Sorry if that's TMI, hehe. I remembered to breathe today!!!

                            C25k W1 D3:
Warm up walk @ 2.0 speed
                            Jog for 60 seconds @ 4.0 speed
                            Walk for 90 seconds @ 2.8 speed
                            5 minute cool down walk

I think since I wasn't doing the first week correctly until the third day I should repeat the first week.

I hope your keyboard dried off One big 'ol flyswatter is what we need...I could have used one this weekend with the size of the bugs.

It's totally up to you, but I think you could try week 2 tomorrow (Monday) and see how it works for you. I think you could do it. But, like I said, it's up to you and you know what you can do

Okay, I survivied camping this weekend...barely. It was exhausting but fun! And we had PERFECT weather. DH and I stayed up late both nights to watch the stars, share coffee, and just relax.

I took my little book with me that I keep track of my stats, food, and notes for C25K (I even think of you guys and the postive power that spreads from all of us sharing this journey!). My DD13 and I went for a 2 mile walk/hike around the lake and I ended up burning 385 calories in 50 minutes. It was funny because DD13 is almost as tall as me, longer legs, and yet, she was the one who was having hard time keeping up with me. I considered this walk part of a little endurance training because when we got back to camp, we were both worn out from the up and down hills.

Oh, and when I got home...my Turbo Jam was waiting for me! Yippeee!!

Burn it up tomorrow! Play hard!
