Good job on the 9 K again

I did my 6 K today. Loved it.
Good job on the 6K liv! Yeah I know what your saying. I thought that I could get away with doing a lighter workout that would still be heavy on the scale if you know what I mean. I could increase the time I mean instead of 30 minutes make it longer but thats about all I can do cuz I was running at 12km/hr which is the highest my machine goes for the "minute and a half of give it all you got intervals" and the "catch your breath interval" I was doing 3 minutes at 4km/hr.

.... or maybe I could decrease my rest time to 2 minutes or something like that....what do you all think?

            hi everyone
this my 2nd time around for atkins, the difference this time is i now i am a runner doing half marathons rather then 1 hour runs, the first time around i lost a good 12 llb but was only running short distance, we all know atkins is based on low carbs, high fat protein but being a runner i need carbs for distance, i have tried very hard using this diet but i just dont seem to have the energy to do this, can anyone give anyone help with this,

I cant compare between running on low fat and runnng on low carb because I wasn't a runner prior to this WOL. But I can say that I can run pretty well and feel energetic during my run. Im not saying its totally easy but it wouldnt be totally easy even if I was running on low fat. Maybe your not taking in enough fat. I would post your menu for the experts to see in the area called Review my Menu and hopefully they can check it out for you.

Otherwise, what about vitamins? Are you taking any? I know I tried low carb before and thought that the idea of vitamins was just not worth it and I was really weak and fatigued so I ended up quitting. But this time I have gone full force with all the vitamins and supplements that Im supposed to take and I feel and look great.

Those are just some ideas. Hopefully Liv or Betty can chime in as they have more experience.

                    Hi Sarny!

I have been running distances for the past (nearly) 7 years, starting out being unable to run barely a mile and building progressively to the point I have logged over 9,000 miles since November 1, 2003. I've completed two full 26.2 mile marathons and a boatload of half marathons in that time, ALL following Atkins maintenance level of carbs (nothing starchy, no breads, pasta or potatoes). I am not at all a believer in carbloading for running. In fact, its been proven that the best fuel of choice for athletes is FAT, not carbs (see article below) Be sure and read all the parts of the article.

The Correct Nutrition for Athletes - Second Opinions, UK

Right now, I consistently run 35 miles a week in west central Florida heat/humidity, on approximately 50 grams of carbs per day. My ratios are roughly 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs a day.

I am a believer in the theory that you can train your body to run on whatever fuel you consistently give it. And for me, the best performance comes from fat not carbs.

am new to this site, just started the atkins again last week, am off for a run a bit later, strained my calf a few weeks ago and not been able to run but am off out this afternoon for a gentle jog, how do you guys find running on a low carb diet, cause i am a bit worried that the distance i do i wont have the energy to do it, i have always had a high carb meal the night before a long run, do yu have any purticular meals before a long run

Sarny, what do you consider to be a "long run"?

I run 10 miles or less on an empty stomach with no problems. If I plan to run farther than that, then I will eat some full fat yogurt and a banana or maybe some nuts. Nothing too high in fiber though. High fiber can cause tummy issues; not what you want if you run outdoors in the heat/humidity like I do. (trust me, I have had to resort to "doing what the pioneers did" on more than one occasion...)

As long as you are well hydrated, you should be fine running with little to nothing in your stomach. I would suggest powerade zero if you run in ridiculous heat/humidity like I do here in west central Florida. I sweat a ton.
