I'm still taking mine, 2x a day. I have also added probiotics and oil of oregano....just in case I have yeastie issues.

I've gone through 2 bottles of biotin and my nails are still brittle, split, and peel

        Hi Joy
I take "B Complex" by Jamieson (only Canadian? I don't know) and the amount of Biotin in them is 10 mcg. I take two pills a day and it is like a wonder drug for me. Maybe it's not just the biotin that does it~~do you take a B-Complex?

mg, good to see you, girl!

i suspect that bio could address the combination of b complex and biotin. i'm wondering too, because myjack and i take both.

          maybe it is the combination?

Yes, it's the combination that works best, not just biotin alone. Taking additional biotin is still fine with a B-complex b/c some manufacturers don't put enough biotin in their product, so you just have to read the label carefully. Joy, do you also take flax oil and/or fish oil supplements? If you have the time, would you mind listing out everything you take including the units? On the multivitamin, you wouldn't have to list everything, just the brand name so I can look it up would be fine.

              • Re: ADBB Vitamin Club Conversation Thread

Joy, I am perplexed! Your multivitamin has really high numbers for the B vitamins, so a separate B complex isn't needed. B2 and B6 are in equal amount, so that is good (no B battles to worry about). For taurine, you need to have B6 present, but that's also in high amounts in your multi. You have plenty of oils...you've got extra Bs with the biotin and the GABA complex. Nothing that you're taking should be interferring with the uptake & utilization of the Bs (unless you're a heavy drinker & I know you quit smoking, so that's not it). From what I can tell, you should have the best looking nails around!

The only thing I can think of is this....perhaps the GNC brand doesn't deliver what it promises on the label? I say this b/c GNC got into trouble several years ago about their supplements, but I would hope that they corrected this. My suggestion would be to try a completely different brand, either the multivitamin -OR- if you wish to keep your GNC mutli, get a new brand of B-complex vitamins. You can even try one that specially promotes skin, hair, and nails. See if that makes a difference. If so with either method, you know that there's something going on with the GNC one.

I'm sorry that I'm not much help in this, but I'm really stumped as to why your nails are still brittle & peeling. Keep us informed on what you decide to do & how it turns out!

It may be genetic bio--my nails have these vertical ridges in all of them....but my grandmother's nails are exactly the same. However, hers are hard as rocks. My mom's nails don't have the ridges, but her nails have always been very thin. Mine have always been very thin with the ridges. I may be destined to have not nice nails....

On another note. In an effort to stop retaining water, I'd been taking taurine. Works like a charm to keep from retaining water. I've also been taking the Co-Q10 and the fish/flax oils. WELL...I have always had blood pressure on the low side of normal. Recently my BP has been REALLY SUPER LOW. As in 80/40 low...and 90/50 after running 6 miles! My resting heart rate is really low too....at like 51 bpm. I've also been getting a bit light headed along with it. After doing more research....all 3 of those things LOWER blood pressure. So, I'm going to remove the taurine and the Co-Q10 from my mix. I'm going to keep the fish/flax oil though.

                  What do you think?

In the meantime, I have made an appointment with the Dr. on Monday afternoon, just in case....

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I take a multi vitamin and occassionally L-Glutamine for cravings. In my opinion, that's all a person really needs.

i think you are missing out on some great benefits of the B vitamins and i know for a fact the extra biotin is working wonders for me. dh has much success with glucosamine/chondrotin (sp?)

i'm reporting that we are on track with our supplements for quite some time now.

Joy, those supplements do lower BP and if you wanted to take the Co-Q10 and taurine, you can always lower the oils to compensate for that. It's really up to you. Good for you on making an appointment...better to be safe than sorry b/c your BP IS really low. Hope everything is ok!

Susan, certainly supplements are a choice, just like eating healthy is a choice vs junk food. No one here will force you to take more than you want nor be judgmental on your opinion. I can tell you, however, that for me, a multivitamin & L-glutamine are not enough for me to keep me in good health. Everyone is different.

Still on track with my supplements.
