hi Nyna -- I know what you mean about not getting enough cardio. I think that was my problem, I wasn't doing enough to get my heart rate up. I can't believe I actually feel this way, but I love doing the miles on the bike - yesterday I watched 3 episodes of Hazel (an old 1/2 hour program from when I was a little kid - eons ago) and when they were done I had gone 20 miles. I started putting a 5 lb weight on each leg when I'm peddling - it just makes it a little harder to peddle and helps with the resistance. I also use the weights to do some arm curls after I'm done on the bike. I just don't want to end up looking like I have 5 miles of bad road under my arms (saggy skin) when my weight is gone!!

I already have the 'wings' under my arms and the strength training doesn't help that part much at my age, sorry to say.

I remember Hazel, the maid. Was it Don DeFore that co-starred in it? You must have quite a video collection! I have Netflix and love it. Lately I've been watching 'Cannon' and 'Jake and the Fatman'. I use the elliptical machine while I watch. The bike's too hard on my butt. Right now, I'm going swimming.

Yes Don DeFore was Mr. B (Baxter). We bought quite a few old TV series DVD's when a large movie store went out of business in St Louis a couple years ago. It's nice to have something different to watch instead of what is showing now. I use to love Jake & The Fatman and Cannon -- those were a couple of my favorite shows back in the day! WGN and Sleuth channels show Nash Bridges (7:00 - 3:00 on Sleuth on Thursdays) and everyday at 11:00 on WGN. I watch them over and over...NCIS is another one I watch over and over.

Now that The Biggest Loser is done for the season I've been watching episodes from prior years - this was the first year I ever watched it so it's kind of nice to see past winners.

We seem to have the same tastes in shows! I love NCIS too. And I usually watch WGN starting at 10am when they show Matlock, In The Heat Of The Night and Nash Bridges in a row. I don't just sit and watch them though; I usually wash dishes, clean the kitchen and do laundry while they're on.

In the afternoon, Hallmark shows 2 more episodes of Matlock and if I'm watching my granddaughter, I give her a bottle and hold her while she naps and I watch TV. That way I can't get up and go to the kitchen for a snack! LOL

I haven't watched the last 2 seasons of the Biggest Loser so I'm not up on what they're doing.

I'm in heaven -- there has been an NCIS-a-thon today on USA channel!! Whoo hoooo - I've seen each of them but that's ok. In the afternoon I watch Bewitched and I Dream Of Jeanie before NCIS starts and sometimes I go to TVLand and watch whatever is on OR to the Game Show channel....re-reading this is a little sad...I spend part of my day re-living my life of 30 or more years ago!

If you want to see re-runs of The Biggest Loser Fine Living Channel has it. I still say it's unrealistic that people can't exercise that many hours a day in the real world, but their job while they are there is to loose weight. I honestly don't see how people that overweight can exercise hour after hour without having a stroke or heart attack.

Welcome to our little forum, Barb! I'm glad you found us.

I used to love the original CSI but haven't watched it in the past few years. I never did watch any of the other ones but hear they're pretty good.

I watch too much TV and try to do things while I'm watching instead of just sit there but I do my fair share of just staring at the boob tube too!

I agree with you Carole on the Biggest Losers and all that exercise they do. The very first one I watched had these really heavy people run up a hill! I thought, how can they do that? I wouldn't make it and I was half their size!

The other day my dh bought several bottles of DaVinci sugar free syrups. Have any of you tried them? They are pretty good but I discovered that I can't drink them during the day because they make me crave sweets. I ended up eating about 3/4 of a cup of baked beans! So from now on I'm only going to drink a small amount over ice at night so that I sleep through the craving and try to diminish the effect they have on me. I guess the sensible thing to do would be not drink them at all but on hot summer nights, it's nice to have something cold to drink. It used to be beer but I seldom drink that anymore and these syrups should be great in small quantities.

How's it going for all of you!

I have maple syrup that I tried on my "pancakes" but wasn't real wild about it...maybe if I had it more often I would appreciate the flavor more. I also have a small bottle of vanilla but haven't used it yet.

I am beat tonight...it's been a busy today. 20 miles on the bike, mowed & trimmed the yard (equals a 1 miles walk) and cleaned the house. All that and had dinner on the table at 6:30 when dh walked in...LOL!

Mom is sick -- has been running a fever and throwing up since last night....she stopped throwing up around mid morning but she's been in bed all day. When she doesn't feel well I have to be doing something all the time. I hope she feels better tomorrow. The fever is gone now but I'm hoping for a better tomorrow!

I got an email from Sunny today -- they are still visiting her husbands family - his youngest brother passed last week and they went for the funeral. They will be gone a couple weeks camping. She really needed to get away. She said she's still doing Atkins while gone and her pants were loose..yea her!!!

I'm off to bed...I need a good nights sleep.

I took a day off from the Route 66 and 6WEC challenges....mom's been sick and it's been hard to get much of anything done since I'm not sleeping real well --- I sleep an hour or so then I'm up checking on her....she just keeps getting sick out of the blue and is in bed for 3 - 4 days at a time. Wish the doctors (and her) would take this more seriously. Anyway - I had my rest day but tomorrow I'm back at it!

I was happy with the result of Dancing With The Stars....since we were from Des Moines we of course were pulling for Shawn Johnson to win and she did!! So now she's an olympic gold medalist AND Dancing queen!!! I was so happy when they announced her name.

I took a day off from the 6WEC and Route 66 challenges -- I needed a day to let my legs rest after 2 days in a row of 20 miles each day on the stationary bike. Tomorrow I'm back at it!

Charlie came tonight and I gave him the name & prices of the block we finally decided on for the landscaping. I told him whenever he gets around to it...even if it's in the fall when his lawnmowing jobs slow down. The longer he waits to start the more money I can put into savings!

Eating has been good lately -- Im wondering how i'll fare in the 6WEC this time....this is the 5th week so I don't have long to wait to find out.

Hi Carole. I haven't been around a whole lot lately because life gets a little hectic in the spring. There is so much to do all at once. Today we will be mowing the field we call the North 40. It's nowhere near that big, that's just what we all it. LOL We have an even smaller one we call the Lower 40. That's where the irrigation ponds are.

On Friday, we rode motorcycle to New York and spent 3 and a half hours hiking up the Watkins Glen Gorge. It was wonderful because I love waterfalls. I wish I could post some pictures but I've just never gotten the hang of uploading things.

We are planning another bike ride to Asheville, North Carolina to tour the Biltmore Estate there. We may get to leave this week but I'm not sure yet. It will be a 4 day trip but I will have a laptop with me so I will still be posting.

We bought one of those little ones with a 5" screen and it's really hard to look at for very long. I don't know how people work with cell phones all the time because I would go blind squinting that those tiny screens.

I hope you Mom is feeling better!

I was wondering where you've been Nyna! Glad to hear you are still around just a little MIA at the time. We've had rain the past 2 days which is ok because we didn't have any plans for Memorial weekend anyway.

Last night I made BBQ pork country style ribs -- they were wonderful! I used Sugar Twin brown sugar in place of regular brown sugar -- it was so good and something to look forward to once in awhile.

We are having steaks on the grill tonight - dh can stand in the rain if it's still raining at dinner time. Mom made a 7 layer salad (my side as no peas but everything else is Atkins legal) so I'm excited about that also.

Mom is feeling better - she was up almost the entire day yesterday (first time in a week) and ate real well..also first time in a week. She's laying down now but she got up extra early this morning so she was tired.

Hope you get a break in your busy schedule soon so you'll be back full time! Hope you stop by again real soon.

I'm glad to hear that you're Mom is feeling better. It must really be a strain on you when she is sick so much. Caring for a parent can be very hard and they can be hard to live with all the time too.

My Mom lived with me for about 10 years, then went into a home for the aging so she would be closer to the doctors and hospital. We live out in the country. She died 30 years ago next month but it seems like just yesterday that she was here.

Your BBQ ribs sound great. My SIL does the grilling around here. He and our daughter live next door so they cook and eat here on weekends. They both love to cook, especially for crowds so there is always a bunch of people here. We had 11 for dinner on Sunday.

Have you read Lynne's post about her colonoscopy? It's hilarious!

You know Nyna I don't even think about it anymore (how exhausted I am most of the time taking care of mom) - I always tell people I help her take care of herself because it sounds so much nicer than "I'm taking care of my mom because she's sick". She is still well enough that most days she gets around and does everything for herself but there are starting to be more and more days that she isn't well and needs extra help. I always said she would never go into a nursing home unless I absolutely couldn't take care of her any longer. I helped her take care of my dad until he passed, then I took care of my 2nd husband's father the last few months before he passed away - it's much easier to take care of your own parent!

I did my 25 biking miles this morning -- it seems easier when I go in right after dh goes to work and get it done. I just need to find something to do with myself in the evenings. After lunch we went grocery shopping because the cupboards were getting a little bare here - thank goodness payday is tomorrow.

I'm trying out a new recipe tonight -- It is coconut cake but I couldn't find any coconut flour so I made it with almond flour -- so it's technically almond cake...lol! I hope it tastes good -- I'd like something different that's a little sweet - I'm coming up on 4 months on plan -- it's like a little celebration if it tastes good!

                              Have a great day.
