    Re: UK!

I just made some 'cheesecake bases' for the dessert I will be making tomorrow when we visit my mum.
Instead of making a large cake I used a 'yorkshire pudding' baking tray with 4 shallow rounds about 3" diameter and split the recipe between them.
I shall top them with sweetened greek yogurt (add splenda to plain) and a few halved strawberries (I am well past the fruit rung of OWL). My husband's favourite at the moment!!

Here is the recipe I used:
1 pack of Waitrose cream cheese (200g)
    1 egg
1 T Davinci sugarfree vanilla syrup
1 T Davinci sugarfree strawberry syrup
2 teaspoons granulated Splenda (can leave out if you havent a sweet tooth)

If you cant find the Davinci then use 1teaspoon of vanilla extract and one of strawberry essence (or any other flavour) and increase the splenda to taste.

Mix together and pour into well greased/oiled baking tin
Bake at 175 degrees Centigrade for about 30 minutes or till browned.
To prevent the tops cracking you can put a baking tin or oven proof dish of water in the oven with it, but as I am not going to serve them 'naked' it doesnt matter if they do look cracked.

Let cool then top with sweetened yogurt (or whipped cream) and fruits if you are allowed them on your stage of Atkins.

No-one believes these are a 'diet' dish!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Re: UK!

The above receipe uses Grams and Degrees Celsius (Centigrade)

In the USA they are quaintly old fashioned and still use "Imperial" measurements!

      ---

Do your conversions using the Google Calculator

You can type most algebraic expressions into Google and it will give you the answer.

The "in" function is good for unit conversions

      Try:

      200g in oz

      and get the answer

      200 grams = 7.05479239 ounces

      . . .

      175c in f

      and get the answer

      175 degrees Celsius = 347 degrees Fahrenheit

      ---

Of course it works the other way round, if you have an American receipe you can't make sense of

      1cup in ml

      and get the answer

      1 US cup = 236.588238 ml

The big trap to remember is that a US pint is 16 fluid ounces, and a British pint is 20 fluid ounces - an Imperial Gallon of water weighs 10lb, but a US Gallon of water only weighs 8lb. A US cup is half a US pint, but in Britain a cup is a mere third of a pint (near-on). The US volume measures are more rational!

That looks delicious, and pretty straight forward. Will make sure to make it tommorow. Is cheese cream is cheese spread? I do not have Waitrose here or nearby. I have Asda/Tesco/Morrision, in my town.

        Thanks Elizellen

I must say, I got quite confused with the metric system in the book. I was concerned about my cup measurement. I had a mug and a tea cup, and did not know which one I had to use, Somehow after lots of questions I found out that 1 cup is equal to 8 oz, that a mug size for us!!!. However before I was using my tea cup which is half the size of the mugs we have.

Now you have pointed out that pints and gallons differs aswell, how confusing!!!

The safe choice is the market leader

            "Philadelphia Cream Cheese"

            You can get it anywhere.

This is a product like "Kellogg's Cornflakes" which others copied.

There is a reduced fat version now - you want the standard, original product.

                Re: UK!

Call me illiterate, I was struggling to find vegetables allowed during induction.

Just found out zucchini is called courgettes in U.K, no wonder the supermarket assistant were not able to help me when I took my big vegetable list. I am sure there are many other vegetables that have totally different name here, and I have been using them regularly, just do not know the American name.

And I thought the metric was confusing!!!!

                  It can be confusing
Here are a couple more that come to mind.

'summer squash' is the vegetable we call marrow. Lovely baked with a stuffing of corned beef and spring onions!
Another one is 'eggplant' - we call them aubergines!

A good way to find out what a particular food looks like in case we use a different name for it is to use google images search.

To do this go to www.google.com and instead of using the normal search box click on the word 'images' above it.
when you get wafted to the images search box type in the name of the vegetable and you will be shown pictures of it so it is easier to identify it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Flax is called Linseed in UK - Holland and Barratt sell it, and most health shops.

There's the ordinary (brown) and the Golden Linseed - taste is the same, but the Golden costs more. Use golden if you want something to be light in colour.

You probalby won't find ground linseed - just wizz the whole seed in a coffee grinder. They are best freshly ground, anyway.
