  • Re: OWLERS "Stepping Back" thread

    Hey All,

Ok - the lower calorie/lower carb things is working. I have been at 40 carbs and 1300 calories for 3 days now, and I have dropped a pound. As I mentioned in another post, though, I am dropping hair like a shedding dog. I think I have to get my carbs up a little before I am running around with my scalp showing.

I know other people have had hairloss with lower carb numbers. I am thinking of taking it up to 50 a day to see if that makes a difference. Just don't want to change my calories too much. I could add a cup of pumpkin in the morning. High carbs, low calories and lots of nutrients in that stuff.

    Thoughts?

I don't know about the hair loss. I know that it shows up 3-4 months after starting a diet, a serious lifechange, a stressful situation, a traumatic event, etc. Did you start in August or just join ADBB then? That would be the right timeframe. Make sure that you're eating enough calories, too.

One thing to help your hair (and skin and nails) is to take a B complex supplement and biotin. Also, make sure you're eating enough fats, that will help.

I never had the hairloss...probably because I was so big to start with, and I've always eaten like a horse! I never had to worry about not eating enough calories.

I started in July, and have experienced varying levels of hairloss since then. It had just about cleared up in the last month or so (when I was getting so lax about carbs and calories) and came back big time this week (of course just as I am starting to see results again).

Doh! Whaddya gonna do. I will be more vigilent about my vitamins and maybe get some fish oil caps into me.

          How did you get dehydrated?

I didn't drink enough water yesterday (it's really tough lately, what with my schedule. I don't get a lot of bathroom breaks!) and I worked out for an hour, part of which was running. I had a dehydration headache last NIGHT...geez! I used to drink 1.5 gallons a day, and in the last month, I've barely been getting 3/4 of a gallon...

Pre-Breakfast - Atkins Chocolate Royale Shake

                Breakfast - MUP with almonds

Lunch - 130g jicama; 1 serving sugar snap peas; 1 ounce cheddar cheese

                Snack - 1 ounce pecans

Dinner - hamburger patty topped with swiss cheese/mushrooms; 1 cup cauliflower; 1 cup broccoli

                Fitday Totals:
                1786 calories
36 net carbs; 23 of those net veggie carbs (73g carbs - 37g fiber = 36 net carbs)

                23% Protein

Too low on carbs. Been a little crazy around here, today. I'll do better tomorrow.

Muffy - about the hair loss. A few months into this, I started losing hair like mad. Both my hair stylist and my doc said this was normal when losing weight and should eventually stop and in fact, grow back. Well, it took about 6 months for it to finally taper off. I lost a ton of hair. But I had 2 tons to start with, and I like the way my hair looks now. I hope mine doesn't grow back, because I had too much.

L - double cheeseburger from macdonalds, bunless of course
D - Half jacket potato with tuna mix (mayo tuna onion)

                  Drinks - several wines
scales - same as yesterday. same as ticker

veggies were wayyyyyyyyyy to low! and the chicken madras probably wasnt the best choice, but in my defence, i didnt know i'd eaten it til i got up this morning and saw the packaging, darn drunken eating, at least it was legal!

                    • Re: OWLERS "Stepping Back" thread

Yay interview stress! 2 pounds down this week (in no small way thanks to you guys and the Slow Loser's Challenge). I am at my all time low weight of 145.4. Gee - only 20 pounds to go (wry smile!).

That is a bit of a relief, Mitzi. I have babyfine hair to begin with, and so losing any shows up very very fast. If I pull it back at this point, I can see scalp on either side of my face. Yuck! Glad to hear that it is normal, and even more glad to hear that it will grow back. I have gotten better about taking my vitamins and will continue that way.

So far not an ideal day of eating:
Break: 1 fried egg, 1 slice fiber/flax bread with butter
Lunch: plain hot dog and chili with beans (at school fair - limited options).

I am maxed out already for carbs for the day, and the chili made me hungrier, rather than less so. I bet there's sugar in there, or flour, or something. I need a high protein nibble, but don't know what to have.

Hope everyone's having a great weekend.

                        Today

11am - half an omlette with onions and chicken, it was weirdly different.lol
7pm - 3 zucchini's fried in oil and butter with some cheese on the top, 2 pieces of chicken... as in, bitesize pieces, lol...

Hows that for a sucky menu? i'm having one of my none eat days, we all get them dont we? i just have no appetite, i got lots of veggies in though so i'm relatively okay with it, its only a one off.

No-appetite days? Please send me a few, Emma. It seems like even when I am not hungry (which is usually) I still want to eat. Stress...boredom..joy - any of those things makes me nibbley.

I had the melted cheese crisp thing, with a little sour cream for a protein snack. Did the trick nicely. Veggies for dinner and this day will be saved!

Ack! My eating sucked today... didn't eat near enough veggies. And damn, if I didn't get into those pecans again.

Pre-Breakfast - Atkins Chocolate Royale Shake

                            Breakfast - MUP with almonds

Lunch - 2/3 cup cottage cheese with liquid Splenda, 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa, and 1 ounce of pecans

Snack - another ounce of pecans

Dinner - went out to eat and had a large caeser salad with grilled chicken

Also, I barely got my minimum of water today. This kind of eating (very few veggies) is unusual for me. I've got to do better tomorrow, because this cannot become a habit.
Since we went out tonight, I don't feel like putting my totals into Fitday. I know that my calories and carbs were too low.
