The fat is the main problem--It seems that butter and olive oil are out of the question during the day since I eat raw veggies. And I hate animal fats. Bahhhhhh! I wish I weren't so picky!

I'm not looking to reach my goal weight during this training, I'd just be happy to lose the few pounds I've gained from my over-eating.

Julie, it's critical that you keep your fat up high! You have to have calories and FUEL for that type of running. Keep the carbs LOW and the fat HIGH and the protein moderate. Replace the calories you run with fat calories to STOKE THE FIRE. I would not look to LOSE weight while training for a race. It's probably not going to happen. Your body needs fuel when running...if you don't give it fuel it will TAKE the fuel and probably NOT from your fat stores. Most likely it will cannibalize your muscle. You don't want that to happen. Think...you've got major calorie deficit, and your body is CONVINCED it's under attack with all this running and then you try to restrict more? It's not going to want to release those fat stores, and it will start shutting down any unnecessary life systems (female reproductive system will go first most likely). It's going to go into conservation mode.

I'd reduce the carbs (and keep them veggie pure), up the calories via fat. Keep protein 30%.

    =====

I'm eating the right foods, NOT the right amounts. Bah!

I think if I had a normal amount of time for lunch it wouldn't be so problematic. But when it's all said and done, when I subtract room preparation, potty break, and grabbing my lunch, I usually have about 15 minutes to enjoy my food. And that's being generous. I usually run "errands" (talking with counselors or co-workers, making copies, etc.) during that time, too.

So raw foods/finger foods are the way to go for me. I HATE wasting 5 minutes to heat up my lunch.

I need to eat more fat I think--since I've severely cut back on my cheese and nut intake, I'm never sure what to eat. I prefer raw vegetables (especially at work when I only have about 15 minutes for lunch) but salad dressing and mayo have added sugars. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet on that one, huh?
Yep, I'm eating at Rung 1. And I do eat a lot of fat - check out my Fitday numbers. I rarely eat salad dressings. Most of my fat comes from butter and olive oil, I guess. Eating at work is a pain, isn't it? I was sneaking food behind the counter all day at work.

Congrats on the 2 pounds, Sarah! My cold seems to be retreating, too. I've gotta get serious with the exercise this week. And I'm proud of you for weighing only once a week now. That's how I've done it from the start. I lost all of my weight by averaging a loss of between 1 and 2 pounds a week. That average includes the 7 pounds I lost during my Induction time, too. So some weeks I lost 2, some weeks I lost 1, and some I lost 0. Looking at the scale only once a week kept me sane... I would have gone nuts trying to get excited over a 1 pound loss for the week if I watched it everyday.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SUMMARY FOR MONDAY (DAY 9)

Breakfast: 2 Hebrew National beef franks; 1/2 of a large cucumber

Snack: 1 cup jicama; 1 ounce American Cheese

Lunch: cold hamburger patty; 1 tbsp mayo; the other 1/2 of the large cucumber (worked today)

Snack: 1 cup jicama; 1 ounce cheddar cheese

Dinner: Made beef fajitas (beef, onions, bellpepper, cheese, sour cream)

    Fitday totals:
    1869 calories
32 net carbs (25 of those were net veggie carbs)
    67% Fat
    7% Carbs
    26% Protein

    - Drank 80 ounces of water

    - Took Supplements

    - Didn't exercise. I WILL get some in tomorrow. It's pretty much a given that I don't exercise on Mondays, but it's just lame that I didn't exercise yesterday.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Reflections on today:

    - Day 9 Woo hoo!

    - Calories kinda high today. I don't think it's high for when I'm in Maintenance, but it may be high for trying to lose weight. The calories thing can be frustrating. I am not a believer in a calorie, is a calorie, is a calorie. Meaning, I don't think it's strictly a numbers game of burning more calories than you take in. There's other things involved... and I think the kinds of calories makes a difference. Having said that, I was definitely taking in too many calories over the couple of weeks that I put on the extra 4 pounds. It wasn't water weight... I was eating LOTS of calories, and it put some fat back on me... I could feel it. I can tell I lost some of it last week.

    - Yep, I'm finally starting to feel small again. My prediction is that I will lose another pound this week, and then another one the next week, putting me back at 120. We'll see.

Julie, you could try what I did. I knew that it was unnecessary for me to go down to 20 carbs, but I DID need to go back to Induction foods. So, I did 30 carbs the first week, and am going to 35 this week. Still strictly Induction foods, though. If my body hasn't changed lately, I know from experience that I can lose the same at 40 carbs as I can at 20, if I keep Induction foods. My original plan was to only do the Induction food thing for 2 weeks, but I may do it longer now. I'll have to see what next Sunday's weigh in brings.

    Greetings Everyone!

Just sitting down after a long day in the boutique, and it is AWESOME to see all of your posts! We rock.

Jess, I am so proud of you for being able to fit into your clothes better! I know it was bumming you out that those clothes had gotten so tight. I loved it when you said "since I don't use a scale I have to tell you its not so easy to measure weightloss, but it's easy to measure success". Yes! Thanks for sharing your success, because it inspires us.

Betsy, I'm happy that you got to spend some quality time with DS. I know you two adore each other, so it's always good for the soul to connect with him. Congrats on the exercise! Wish I could say the same.

HEIDI!!!! OMG girl, it is so great to see you here. Yeah, you've been through some tough times. Time to move forward!

Glenda, thank you for pointing Heidi over here. And well done you! Getting slimmer and feeling better. Yes, ketosis is a good thing.

Elsy! Look at you go! Good for you, amiga. Hey, when I look at your lunch, I don't think that it's very much food, either. I really hate that I can't eat as much as I want. But what you gonna' do? And how in the heck do you get down 200 ounces of water?! I have to force down my minimum of 64. Great job!

PT, you're getting skinnier as we speak - I can feel it!

Eliz, your DH has a very smart doctor. How wonderful of you to support him by eating the way that he needs to! That will really help him. And good for you for getting to the gym 3 times a week!

WENDY! Yay! I can't tell you how happy I am to see you here! It's definitely not to late to join us. This is really informal... a gathering place. Use it however you need to. As you can see, I get pretty specific with my data. But everyone can participate in any way that they choose. Hey, your food sounds really good. I think it was a brilliant idea to treat yourself to an amazing legal meal on your first day! What better way to drive home what kind of food we are allowed... good motivation.

OK, I'm getting hungry. I need to go cook something. I'll be back later with today's summary. See ya!

Another great back to basic day. Took a mental health day & have really enjoyed myself. Tomorrow is back to work & I'll weigh in. Clothes are fitting better & I'm feeling slimmer. Probably should take my measurements also. Ketosis is a good thing!!!

    Hi all!

I did OK this weekend, just OK. Sunday, after the race, I was FAMISHED and ate enough for a small army. Legal foods galore.

I'm contemplating going back to induction. I said I'd never do it, but I feel like that's the only thing that's going to get me on the right track mentally and physically. I'm going to think it over for the next few days. If I decide to do it, I'll start after my race next weekend. I know I know, "start now" right? Tell that to my refrigerator...

    Here's my menu for today:

Breakfast: 3 fried eggs in olive oil and 1 tbsp of green salsa
Lunch: 2 cups of mixed green salad, 2 tbsp of LC Ceasar Dressing, 6 slices of cucumber, 3 small peppers, 2 thin slices of turkey breast.
    Snack: 2 slices of Jicama
Dinner: 3 small ground turkey patties (about 9 oz) on 1 cup of lettuce, topped with 2 slices of pepper jack cheese and 2 slices of tomatoes. Oh, and 1 tsp of mayo and mustard.

    Water: 200 oz.
All supplments and 30 min on the treadmill.

I can't believe I'm eating that little for lunch. For some of you it might sound a reasonable every day lunch, but for me it's very little. I've discovered that if I eat more during induction, I won't lose at all. Can't wait for OWL.

    Hi Mitzi,

Hope it's not too late to join up - today is my first day "back to the basics".

I have gone back to induction levels and I'm going to stay here for two full weeks - because I'd strayed SO FAR OFF THE PATH, I think it will take two full weeks to really re-set my body/clean it out again. (I gained back all but four of the pounds I'd lost!)

So far today, I've done good - had a fantastic roasted chicken that had greek style herbs, olive oil & lemon juice rubbed into it, along with some amazing sauteed green beans that they put just a few smidgens of chopped tomatoes in too - seasoned & cooked to perfection. I can't afford to eat out like this very often, but I figured treating myself on Day 1 was a good investment!

    Thanks for starting this thread!

    Wendy

You are all doing so well, and I am proud of you

I too am virtually back to basics as my DH has been told by his doctor to 'go back on your wife's diet' (which the good doc knows is Atkins) so to help him get into the groove I am eating induction alongside him at all meals. I am however allowing myself up to an ounce of almonds before my gym workouts 3 times a week if I really feel hungry for them.

    Happy Monday Atkins Friends!

O.k. Saturday I ended up drinking 200 oz of water. That's a record for me but I had to do it. Sunday we went out so I had less, about 164 oz. For some reason, I still feel like I'm retaining water. This morning when I removed my socks (the one's I sleep with) I had this marks around my ankles. That's definetly fluids. I don't get it. The only explanation I have is a 1/2 sausage link I had yesterday for breakfast. I'm trying to stay away from sausages as much as I can, but DH brought these and he insited to try one. Well, I tried 1/2 but apparently it still made it's damage.

Anyhow, inspite of the sausage story, the weekend was great. I finally exercised 2 days in a row and stayed on induction. One more week of this until I can add my extra cup of veggies. Uggg, can't wait.

Hey, but the scale is still moving down ladies and gentlemen!!!!
