It will be hard this weekend since I am going to go visit my son and his family for a couple of days. I need to make sure that I am well prepared before I leave town tomorrow.

I'm not sure how I should be counting this because I've changed time zones again... but let's say today is day 16 for me.

Bring your own food if you have to. It'll be easier than going back to point one again!
As for me, 16 days cheat free and I have actually lost more weight in the last week than I did during induction. That says a lot for drinking a lot of water and exercising!

Re: 2009 Staying Cheat Free Challenge

What do you consider " cheating" is it a full meal that is not in safe foods or is it a bite of something ? Possibly types of sauces ? Do you determan what is bad for you or do we all get honest with each other and tell on your self to some one that tells you CHEATER !!! I know every body does do a taste of something that is not in safe foods list once in a while , mostly if you cook for your family, Some times you dip your finger in something to check it for what ever reason and then into your mouth and not even relized what you have just done. I guess most of this does not matter if you stay in you CARB ZONE whatever that may be.
Please if any body has a good idea what cheating is please reply.
              Thank you for reading this....

                Hi Mark,
While I am not an expert on this way of eating, I consider cheating (for me, personally) to be eating any foods that are known to cause a trigger toward a binge ( think one chocolate chip cookie becoming twenty),or foods that knock you out of ketosis.
Others, I'm sure have their own ideas, which would be good to hear ( hint, hint), but anything that makes it hard for you to stay on track should be considered a cheat.

this could be a loaded question as you could get many responses. do you want by the book or personal definititons and allowances?

A cheat to me is eating off plan even to the point of eating from rung 9 when you're on induction. a cheat is having alcohol on rung 1 just because it's "......................... " [fill in the blank}.
a cheat is eating 5 cups of veggies on induction.
a cheat is eating major amounts of carbs from a rung when you know you should be eating 5.
and on and on, a person could come up with a hundred of these circumstances.
personally, i think anybody that is serious about this way of eating, knows when they have cheated aka ate off plan.

is tasting with your finger a cheat? understanding that we are talking about an illegal food, i doubt that one taste off a finger is going to cause problems. now if a finger leads to 10 tastes and then you start using a spoon and that graduates to a 1/4 cup size.... then i would say you are cheating, or eating off plan.

now am i going to be the cheat police is you overeat the allowable carbs? no, because most time, someone that does this is suffering the consequences anyway either by gaining weight or feeling ill or beating themselves up over their cheat.

if you are joining the challenge and not sure whether something qualifies as a cheat of not, why not say what phase/rung you on and state the food in question.

                              17 days

Regarding the question about what is cheating - to me it is eating anything I am not currently permitted, or eating a food that is permitted but that I have discovered causes me to have cravings (such as decaf coffee). However, if I'm eating out and I have a little salad dressing or a slice of bacon I don't count that as a cheat (even though I think often restaurant salad dressings probably have sugar or unpermitted ingredients in them and the bacon probably has sugar in it). I don't eat these things out very often, but once in a while I do.

Also, to me the point of posting here if I cheat is to figure out why I did it and learn from others why they did it, with the goal of learning how not to do it in the future. I certainly am not interested in chastising anyone for cheating or monitoring when they cheat.
