We have a couple of soaker hoses, but with our water restrictions they're not much help. We are still on restrictions! No car washing and you can only use water outside every other day of the week before sun up and after sundown!

overnight soaking would be ideal if you don't have a mold or mildew issue like we do.

Do you catch rain water?

I'm gonna be sore tomorrow. I extended my garden plot in the backyard and got a terrific upper body workout while doing it!

did you doubler dig it?

what yiou planting? it is in the 80s here and my cool weather greens are going to bolt if it stays this way much longer. geez it is only March and our freeze date is May 7th. you know if I set out hte tomatoes and peppers we will have a freeze if not a "winter"

This is "virgin" soil. I don't have a roto-tiller so, I have to do it with hand tools and my muscles. Next week, I'll work in manure and compost.

I bought something called a "vine peach"---it's a melon that looks like a peach in size, color and shape, but it supposedly tastes like a mango. (yeah, I'm kind of skeptical too, but I thought it was weird enough to give it a try). If it grows, it grows. If it doesn't, then next year I'll give raspberries a try or I'll stick a bunch of herbs there.

It was in the 70s yesterday and today. Tomorrow they've threatened us with 80 degree weather, with the temps dipping back into the 40s by the friday.

I love walking around in the garden seeing all this stuff poking up through the ground ..some of it I forgot existed!!!

I have to pick the collard greens again they have grown all winter

well I found out the purple plant in the back of Mother's property with the dark purple berries is Poke. anybody got a low carb poke salad recipe.

Be careful about poke weed---the shoots and young leaves are okay to eat, the rest is poisonous.

Anybody grow rhubarb? I saw some plants for sale over the weekend but I don't know how large they get, I know they are perennials so I don't want to get one if its going to end up taking over my garden.

MOG it is like collards you harvest the main stem and it grows more. we eat the stems only cause the leaf is poisonous.

Yea, I knew you couldn't eat the stalks, we used to cut it all the time at my aunts house when I was little, but I can't remember how big it gets, I have to think of the root system as well because I have a very small garden space.

well rhubard is like asperagus ir groes from crowns and you don't even want to harvest it the first yr to allow it to do well in the future. it is going to go dorment in the hot weather but should give you fall shoots too. it is a big plant but one plant can feed a family

Thanks 2big, i was just looking around online and found alot of information. They say its more suited for the north but I may try one anyway, the thing is it says to plant them 4 feet apart so I don't know how John will feel about me taking 4 feet of his garden LOL, I'll probably have to nix the idea--he wont' let me plant my sunflowers anymore cause they take up too much room, oh well.
