Re: Vidiots' House of Pain - Part III

I'll let you know for sure.
What I like about Tai Chi is that it doesn't involve getting to see the floor from upclose all the time
Like with Judo or Jiu Jitsu they drop you on the floor all the time, no fun at all
Tai Chi is to me almost like Yoga in constant movement, it seems easy cause it's so slow, but it really is way harder than you think, very good for your balance and it works your whole body.
I don't think the US version will be that different, but it differs from class to class what 'form' they teach, there is all kinds of different styles, yang chen, wu and sun are the most common.
You should check, maybe there is a way where they allow you to try a lesson and see if you like it.
Oh and I totally forgot to tell you how cool it that you managed the a**crampers all the way yesterday !!!!

          HeidiE,

You are a strong, capable, STUBBORN woman. You can conquer exercise just like the rest of the battles in your life.

I know where you're coming from. I'm out of the house for work from 6 a.m. till 6 p.m., on a good day. I also have 6 year old twins. I find what helps is if as soon as I get home, I throw on my workout clothes. Then, I cook, eat dinner, put the kids to bed, and as soon as they hit the sheets I'm ready to go. If I had to motivate myself to change at 8:30 at night, there's no way I'd do it. Also, on days I just feel cr@ppy, I tell myself that all I have to do is turn on the video and move along for 48 minutes. On days like that, I skip what I feel like skipping, march along, etc., but it's better than nothing. And sometimes, once I've started, I get in a groove and end up surprising myself.

Remember, Slim in 6 gets easier as you go. But if you start and stop, it wills stay hard, and you won't get through the initial muscle soreness phase.

          We're here for you!

That said, I'm now sick as a dog, and today's likely a rest day whether I like it or not. (Why do we say that, anyway? My dog's never been sick.)

          Anna

Re: Vidiots' House of Pain - Part III

Well, those are just awesome results, Brook!!!! Good job!---Yeah, I get hungry when I work out hard. My dear nurse friend told me that the more we work out the more hungry we usually become. Oh, yea.

Soliwit...sounds like a great way of releasing stress and muscle challeng with Tai Chi. I've heard it's a great thing.

Hey, Heidi....PUSH PLAY, Girl!!! You've got a lot of responsiblities and with that you need to have some time for you! Sweat and movement burns calories and builds up endorphins....more energy and stamina to deal with those responsiblities I know you can do it!

oooohh...Anna...I sure hope you get well soon! Take care of yourself and get lots of rest. Hey, maybe even stretch out while you're on the couch to keep your muscles from getting stiff Feel better!!!

Okay, I did 2 miles and RAN 1 of those miles on my treadmill....yes, I beat my own record of running 1/2 a mile. Go me! I passed the first 1/2 mile and then started reading my DD's scolastic book order---okay so I was glancing at the pictures keeping my mind of the agony. Anyways...I saw a mile and did the happy dance and then woggled (walk/ran) to the 2nd mile. Sweat...yea, baby!

Then I finished up the resistant bands on SI6 from yesterday and did abs and stretching. I guess it all adds up to day 9 for me according to my little OCD worksheet in my desk.

Now it's time to go do some homework!

            TTFN!

Re: Vidiots' House of Pain - Part III

Yeah, Lisa! WTG on the running!

Heidi, what Lisa says is 100% true, and you know this because you used to be an exercise junkie - endorphins are won-der-ful. Second only to you know what.

Being the endorphin-junkie that I am, I squeezed out workout number 10 even though I'm sick. I did Start it Up and Slim and Limber. I don't care that Start it Up is the "beginning" routine. It's really tough. She just hammers mercilessly on the legs, since there's no resistance band portion and less abs and stretching. My legs feel all quivery right now, and I suspect I'll have DOMS tomorrow.

You know how some workouts advertise "see results in just 10 workouts"? It really is true - the scale and measurements aren't being kind to me right now, but I can feel how much firmer everything already is. Now I just have to work off the layer of fat on top.

Re: Vidiots' House of Pain - Part III

This was posted during the first Slim in 6 challenge, and I just love it. Since I tend not to lose (or gain) measurable inches or pounds very quickly, the true test is the "Jeans Test":

Step 1: Do they slide on further/are they easier to slide on?
Step 2: Are the button and hole closer together when I am standing up?
Step 3: Can I get them zipped/does the zipper go further than last time?
Step 4: Do I have to lay on the bed to get them zipped or can I actually stand up to get them zipped?
Step 5: Does the fat hang off of the waistband less than last time?
Step 6: Can I finally wear these in public without the big, thick sweatshirt that hangs past the butt?
Step 7: Can I wear a shorter shirt?
Step 8: Can I wear a shirt tucked in?

Last time I did this challenge, I was somewhere between steps 6 and 7. This time, I'm unfortunately between steps 1 and 2. I'll get there, though.

                  Hey there, everyone

WAY TO GO LISA!!!!!! WELL DONE!!!

Anna- Same for you! You'll get back to 6 & 7 in no time!

Heidi- I don't have much to add to what the other ladies have already said. You CAN do this and we're right here to cheer you on!

                  Soliwit, where are you today?!

                  Reporting in with 8/36 DONE.

I *really* didn't want to do it. There's a muscle in my upper left thigh that's giving me heck and I was determined to call today a rest day and just let it alone.

I couldn't do it. I was so crabby by 1pm with myself I just sucked it up, pressed play and then surprised the heck out of myself. Not only did I do the workout, but I knocked it out rep for rep save the double crunches, and while I don't do those as fast as they do, I did them for the full length of time...so HA HA HA!!

I'm finding that I'm already starting to really concentrate more on my form instead of just living through the exercises. I find I'm really tightening and squeezing the appropriate muscle groups to ...and this just sounds dumb and humors me....make the exercises harder and more effective. I feel a HUGE difference when I do this.

My heart rate popped up to 189 today. LOL But I felt good. Didn't get icky or pukey, so bonus. According to my HR moniter, I burned 477 calories.

Just tried it again and I'm already somewhere between steps 3 and 4. Woot! Let's hear it for Si6!

Brook, WTG cranking out the workout and surprising yourself besides, but take it easy on that leg muscle.

Anna...I just have to say I love love love your list. Is that ever so true for me. You'll be at #8 in no time

Nice job, Brook!!!! WO hoooo!!! Dang, that's what I want to do "some day". Guess that means I need to keep pushing play when I don't want to and don't feel like it....like today.

Soliwit...Best wishes on a great work out today!!

I'm sooo needing to get my act together today. It's 8:25 am and I still haven't eaten breakfast, I've got 2 assignments due today, and I want to figure out the heart monitor watch that I bought myself yesterday. Oh, and I need to buy new batteries for my mp3 player or search the girls' rooms for the rechargeable ones that's probably in their mp3 players.

                        Focus focus focus focus focus...

Alright, I'm going in...I got to sweat out some frustration and maybe then I can concentrate.

                        Have a great one!

I'm gaining weight like mad right now too. Grrr. I KNOW it's just water and I know I'm bloated, but grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. TOM is due Friday and I really just wish it would get here so I can be done with this nonsense already. Blahhh.

Okay, THAT was dedication. We must have had a power surge, because *both* our TVs are dead. After about 30 minutes of trying to bring life to the TVs, I decided to try the computer. No go on my computer (because of the protections, I guess), so I stole the kids computer and Ramped it Up. And amazingly, even after the delay and still being sick, I felt really good. I even made it through all the a$$crampers again. And you know what I was thinking about at the time? That photo of Brook's backside in one of the other threads. "Grunt, wheeze, oh my God, but darn it, my @$$ is gonna look like that too!"
