*mental note, paste Christy's siggy pic to the top of her headless picture* LOL, wonderful Christy, thanks for posting em.....

And Baarb, I wouldn't reduce your water, I would just make sure you are getting the minimum..... If you go over that is perfectly fine! The body requires water for every cellular function it performs, including fat burning, so this is good!

Gotta go to bed now..... tired hg out~~~

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

Hard for me to imagine Christy looking "rough."

I'm still trying to figure out all the areas I wish to improve. I think I'm gonna have to reread HG's original post and write stuff down so that I make a firm commitment.

I haven't measured yet b/c I'm waiting for the current 6WEC to be over. I haven't looked to see when it ends and this one begins exactly. Might have to measure early, I think.

Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

Hey HG-this challenge is exactly what I need. I hope its not too late to join. I’m new to the board and after several bad attempts at Atkins, some bloodwork that knocked some sense into me, I’m ready to do this. Here are my goals.

        • I will post a picture, weight, and measurements May 1st
        • Exercise 5 days a week for 45 minutes
        • As a newbie I would like to commit to extended induction for 4 weeks to gain control of my eating habits before moving to OWL (only on day 8 of induction currently.) Week 4-6, depending on how I feel, I will start OWL.
        • Drink 90 oz of water a day
        • No diet pepsi, or other diet soda.
        • Take my vitamins

Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

Hey there f2f! It is awesome that you have it all together like that! WTG! YaY for day 8 of induction!!!!! One suggestion, try going to fitday and logging your food intake there. It is optional, but it will really open your eyes to the foods you eat and portion control. Make sure you are eating wnough calories. On extended induction where you are still only having 20 carbs maximum in a day, you will have to eat a sufficient amount of meat and cheese (3-4 oz) cream, all 3 cups of salad veggies, full fat dressings and dips, and all the other stuff induction allows to meet your required BMR. Read my original post again for links to sites mentioned. Other than that it looks really good! I am so happy you will be focusing on your programme so diligently in the first month and a half of your Atkins adventure....... WTG!!!!!

BIO, hey baby! How's trix Auntie Bio? Let me know what you decide for your programme. Althoug we already know you are a super star!!!! *ehm 2 parts of the challenges already finished 1*

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

Hey guys, I'd like to join if I may. I have a couple of questions, though, to make sure I understand correctly. I hate to beat a dead horse but I want to make sure I'm clear My straight BMR is 1470. When I exercise, it will go up to 2279. That's supposed to be maintenance, I read. But our commitment here is to eat at least our BMR, right? So I need at least 1470. However, with the exercising, even taking 500 off a day as recommended to lose weight, that would bring it up to 1779. SO! I think I'll need to bump it up to apx. 1770 or thereabouts right??? (Sorry for all the math!)

Secondly, I don't get home from work until 6:30 or 7:00, at which time it's time to feed the kids, check homework, baths and bed. Then I have my own homework/class since I'm a part-time student as well. I exercise on my lunch hour, which only gives me 30 mins with drive/changing clothes time. Will that be okay with you guys? Trust me, I push myself hard to make up for the 15 mins less than I'd rather be doing.

Last, 65%, 5%, 30% right? If you're on berries rung, that's the percentages I should still be using? Doh! I thought the fat went down some and the carbs went up some - or is that just the ratios we'll use for this challenge?

No scale huh. As a huge scalaholic, that will be the hardest! Hubbies even hid the thing from me in the past! But I've never measured so I'm sure this will be good for me. My clothes are all too big, so if I'd measured, I'd probably have a better idea of my progress right now!

I'll take my measurements and pic tonight. Thanks!!

                Pam

P.S. Hubby laughed at me when I said I wasn't going to weight myself. Hmph!

Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

Ok, ratios are to be as close to 65/5/30 as possible, go to fitday to keep it straight instead of guessing, you'd be surprised how many times I was way off when I guessed! LOL

No sclae, but the tape measure is your friend.

i suggest doing 45 minutes of exercise 5 days a week, but if you can only get in 30 I won't kick you out! No worries! LOL

Too much protein is bad in that it converts to glucose and is stored as fat. But you need it, so don't skimp, just check your ratios.

Calories and BMR are important in that you don't want to go into starvation mode. This is easier to do than you may realize, so make every effort to eat you minimum required calories plus a few hundred calories to compensate for your level of activity. I use about 2-300 extra calories a day for this and still lose inches and weight at a good rate.

No matter what rung of OWL you are on, the ratios are the same until maintenance, then you need a pro cuz I ain't there yet!

And last but not least go to the vita nutrient forum for vitamin info, Biogeek is a wealth of knowledge on vitamins, use her knowledge if you like. I am sure she won't mind getting off her stairsteper to help yah out. I take a multivitamin with low iron.

Water needs to be 8 glasses of 8 oz every day minimum. but add 8oz extra for every 25 lbs you need to lose If you have 75 lbs to lose that is 3 extra glasses of water on top of your 8 minimum.

I hope this clears up some stuff. No worries about questions k? I am here to help!

I do have to get going, but I'll check in on ya'll tomorrow. We are putting an offer in on a house we sould like to buy tomorrow, so I may be really late. Sorry!

Oh and BTW, about pics. If you aren't comfortable posting them here, send them to me in a pm and I will hold on to them until the end of the challenge when you can decide if you want to post them then. k?

BIG HUGS TO YOU ALL YOU ARE DOING AWESOME!!!!!!

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

HG, my commitments are below in purple text. I did my measurements on April 1 for the 4th challenge. I'll do them again May 1, and take a starting photo.

                      Thanks for hosting!

You must take your starting measurements. We will be using the model provided by fitogether: here is the link, sign up is free and you can see your progress in reports they provide! http://www.fittogether.net/ Oh, and take a starting weight.... we will not weigh again until the end of the challenge! We will however measure once a week.

You must have a starting picture, this is something you may choose not to post, but I'd like to see it so I know how far you have come by the end of this challenge. ( I won't show anyone if you don't want me too! )

You must commit to an exercise schedule. This can be at your level, but I suggest at least 4-5 days a week, for at least 45 minutes per day. However you can do what you and your doctor feel is safe for you.
                      • I will run 10 miles per week (minimum).
                      • Strength training at least two days a week.
                      • I'll play tennis at least once a week.
                      • Abs/core strenght training 3 days a week.
                      • Overall exercise commitment: 5 days per week.
It is adviseable to record your foods in a place like Fitday or dailyplate or another tracking program. You will be required to find your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and eat at least that number of calories + whatever your activity level dictates. For example. I will be eating 1737 calories (my BMR) + 200 calories (for lifestyle). This is about 1950 calories a day roughly that I should be eating. You can figure out your BMR at this link.
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ You should also aim for a ratio of foods at 65% fat, 5% carbs, 30% protein.
                      • BMR is 1719. With HB index, 2664.
                      • My calorie target will be between 1900 and 2100 daily.
                      • I'll track my food in Fitday to monitor percentages.
You will need to meet the minimum requirement of water intake daily. At least 8x8oz of water every day + 8 oz for every 25 lbs you need to lose. For example. I will drink 64 oz (minimum)+ 16 oz (because I need to lose 50 lbs)= 80oz daily.
                      • 100 oz. of water daily
Also, you need to take your vitamins. I am not an expert on this topic, but any info you need can be found in the vitanutrient forum.
                      • I take a multi, B-complex, flax, C, and acidolphis (sp?).
Post at least once a week with your measurement updates, and be supportive of those who are in the challenge with you.

So, sign up begins April 15th and closes May 1st. Join the challenge you will be glad you did!

Here are two pictures of me, these pictures are 5 weeks apart and show what this challenge did for me.

Durring my challenge I lost 14 lbs and 30.25 inches in total measurements. You can't argue with those results!

"No matter what rung of OWL you are on, the ratios are the same until maintenance, then you need a pro cuz I ain't there yet!"
Well crap. I will start watching that closer in fitday. That certainly explains things (and helps!) Thank you for all of the info!

**** update: I saw this while in the OWL forum...???????:
                            OWL Fat/Protein/Carb percentages

During Induction, we kept our percentages around 65% fat:30% protein:5% carbs. During OWL, we begin to increase our carbs. By the time you reach Maintenance, your fat percentages are around 50%.
                            ****

BTW, I used that cite to record all of my measurements you mentioned in the first post. They said to measure hips right at the top of the hip bone, but I see different ideas about that on other sites. Where is the proper place for women to measure your hips?

                            GOOD LUCK with the house!!

You have to upload them to another site, like Photobucket, then copy and paste the code into your message.
