Hmmm...maybe I will. There is one for Komen, the breast cancer foundation, coming up in June. There is a group here at work doing it, so maybe I'll sign up to join them. I'll even get TWO t-shirts. LOL! Thanks for the push!

Just read that again - Dude, you did a half-marathon?! Good for you!!

Go for the 5K! You definitely won't be the last person to finish...but if you are, make sure to trip the guy next to you so he'll be last instead. Just kidding.

But signing up for a race is a GREAT motivator! And it's not the race that matters, but the effort you put in GETTING THERE.

Adena, your kids probably think you won it because of all those t-shirts you had printed up for your kids that said "My mommy won a 1/2 marathon and all she brought me was this stupid t-shirt".

          • Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

            Heeeeey, they LOVE those shirts.

Good for you, Pam -- go for it! And yup, I did a half marathon (a SLOW jog, mind you, but I did it). AND, I signed up for it FIRST, and then started seriously training for it. It was the boost I needed to turn me into "a runner." I can't tell you how happy I am to be one. (Okay, a jogger. But, am now working on my speed, so that I can honestly claim to be running...) I was SOOOO non-athletic before. I remember not being able to run more than 2 or 3 30-second segments. And how excited I got once I could run 1/4 mile straight... Now, I can regularly do 6, 7, 8 miles. Slowly but surely.

Kim, here's a little secret... adding 5 carbs really isn't all that much. Unless you happen to be one of those unusual people who have a very low CCL, your body will likely not even notice, I promise. So, seriously, don't stress too much about it. And remember, the more exercise you do, the more carbs your body can handle. Just ask Julie, Miss-I-can-eat-80-carbs-a-day.

One thing to keep in mind that this is not a short term deal. The OWL rungs are to help you add back in natural, healthy foods. If you do it moderately and carefully, as Dr A prescribes (5 carbs at a time, one new food at a time), I promise you won't balloon up overnight. AND, if going this route reveals to you that you can't tolerate certain types of carbs or happen to have a very low CCL, then you take one step back down the ladder to what was working.

I guess it's easy for me to say now that I'm as far along in my journey as I am becuase I just don't get very worked up anymore over the week to week losses -- I trust that it will ALL come off eventually (not that I don't still have a lot to lose!). But if I try something new one week, and don't lose (or don't lose as much) as a result, I know not to do it again, or to try to figure out why it happened and adjust acccordingly. That's the beauty of how this program works -- you have tools to figure out what works for your body.

Okay -- sorry. I'll get down off my soap box.

One caveat: when you are doing a no-weigh challenge, I understand not wanting to add new foods or lots more carbs, b/c it does take away one measurement that would be helpful to see how your body is responding. But, my advice would be to not do it for that reason, rather than b/c you want to keep losing (or lose more), if that make sense? Then again, one could argue that if your inches keep going down, you're fine. And you can rely on the keto stix to make sure something new you've eaten hasn't thrown you out of ketosis....

Anyway, you guys are doing great! You are paying close attention to your body, your food, your exercise, tracking.... all big keys to success. And hopefully, creating great habits that will last.

Adena you can stand on your soap box all day!
I will take all the advice you give and be honored!

I know you are right, I just want to give myself an extra boost, because my whole first induction period the last 2 weeks I was drinking bacardi and diet pepsi every day. (that habbit is another story).
I still lost 4 lbs and 10.5 inches, awesome I know, But I want a clean induction and to not cheat myself of the opportumnity to really clean my body out, so I quit drinking and am in a way starting over I guess if that makes sense...

Okay, now THAT's a good reason -- to have a clean induction under your belt that you feel good about it. If I knew that (and maybe I would have it I'd read back further...!), then you would have been spared my little tirade.

So, after your two squeaky clean weeks, I'll look forward to seeing you scoot up the rungs.

                  • Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

trying--good for you for doing a squeaky clean induction!

THis is my 2nd time following Atkins. My first time was a disaster. I stayed on induction almost the entire time, and I made my own rules, breaking them as fast as I made them! So this time around, I'd gained all the weight back and then some. I started this second time much like the first, without reading the book, and I ate frankenfoods and soda everyday. Luckily I found ADBB and got my head out of my butt and started doing it the right way. So I went back and did a squeaky-clean induction--that's the best thing I've done so far! It was tough, but after those two weeks, I was free from caffiene, sugar, frankenfoods, and cravings!

So kudos to you for doing it RIGHT!

Oh, and it IS possible to add new foods if you're doing a no-weigh challenge, as long as you DON'T change your carb intake. During January's no-weigh challenge, I added quite a few new foods, staying at 35g a day, and just made sure to REALLY pay attention to bloating, cramping, cravings, etc. I actually found out during that time that 2 foods don't agree with me--all because I was focused on listening to my body rather than the scale.

                    • Re: Atkins Attack, May 1st - June 15th.

Ditto to Juli. When I started Atkins the first time, I just did my own thing thinking as long as I didn't eat carbs, then I was in the clear. Needless to say, that attempt failed miserably!

But when I started Atkins this time, I tried as hard as I could to stick with the program outlined in DANDR. Have I cheated? Yes. Have I made horrible food choices at times? Yessssss! But I just try to get right back on track. ADBB has been a huge motivator and help this time around.

When I am doing a no weigh challenge I do add new foods, I just keep my carb level pretty tight. I don't try travel up a bunch of rungs or add lots of carbs. The turtle wins the race!!

Kiss, that's why I'm strongly considering a little (very inconspicuous) turtle tatoo once I reach goal.

Solittle -- "frankenfoods" are pre-packaged foods with lots of preservatives, including Atkins bars and shakes... Many refer to them with disdain b/c the best choices are always fresh, wholesome foods.

Hi everyone. I was supposed to be in this challenge but I am moving in 3 weeks and have been packing any chance I get. I really wanted to do this. Not that I have not been eating good, I have stuck to this WOE and done well, but I have not had the time to count all fo my stuff. So I have not lost any inches yet, I guess I am going to have to drop out because I don't have the time to figure out wether I have done everything correctly. I did weigh myself yesterday. I have done this WOE for 2 months now and lost 22.5 lbs and I am finally in WONDERLAND.

Good luck to you all. You are all doing great!

Hope the move goes well and big congrats on onederland! A wonderful place

Just checking in to say I am on track for food, exercise and water for today and last couple of days. Didn't get 45 mins exercise yesterday but am counting it as a rest day, sort of thing. I'm wondering whether I can continue properly however, as I think I'm pretty close to finding (or going over my CCLL). Not sure if it's possible to find it without weighing whatsover - any thoughts?

I guess I could just measure? Tape inaccuracies scare me though....
