  • Preggo, On Atkins, and LONELY IN HERE

Hi...to anyone who may pop in. I was so excited that I could come into this forum now, only to find it deserted. I'm hoping now that the holidays are over, maybe a few more will come along and we can help each other get through this.

I am now just over 11 weeks along, and looking forward to starting my 4th month! My morning sickness is gone, my energy levels rising, and after a two month binge session, I'm working on getting back on track with 100 carbs a day. I haven't actually made it through a whole day yet, but compared to where I was, its definitely better. I gained 15 pounds in the first three months...NOT GOING TO KEEP GOING THAT WAY!

This is my second child. My first one, I didn't know I had PCOS, and got pregnant after a few months of trying. My pregnancy was normal up until 12 weeks, when my blood pressure started to sky rocket, my weight really started to sky rocket. By the early birth of my son at 30 - 32 weeks (not sure where I was due to his in utero growth retardation. He only weighed 2lbs. 3 oz.) I had gained nearly 100 pounds! My last appointment last week I found out my blood pressure is creeping up, and my weight obviously was too. Now I'm working on fixing that. My doctor refers to my son's birth as a nuclear bomb, and says to avert a second one to get back on Atkins...which I did.

Hope some more moms-to-be pop in soon. It would be neat to hear how you're all handling this exciting time.

Marion I am so glad to see you here. Atkins (maintinence) can help you have a healthy pregnancy. God Bless

Thanks Laurenfra! If you find anyone else around the boards pregnant, would you send them this way?

Update: I haven't made it to only 100 carbs yet...more like around 125-150, but I've lost 7 pounds. I'm not too worried about it, since its most likely water weight, but if it doesn't stop, I may have to up my carbs again. Going to start walking every day again since my miscarraige scare is well past with no more symptoms.

      Have a great day!

Now it should never be your goal to lose weight when pregnant. However I have known normal sized women that lost like 15lbs in the first few months due to feeling sick but deliver healthy, normal sized babies. Also many women that started out pregnant really overweight. They started to eat healthier for babies sake and either lost weight or didn't gain weight. They went to doctors in panic and the doctor said that it was ok. They all delivered perfectly normal/healthy babies. I would ask your dr if it is a big deal if you lose weight(though not on purpose).

I hope that makes sense. Congrats on the pregnancy btw. I plan to try to conceive my fourth after getting to goal weight. I sometimes stop by this forum to see if there are pregnant women following maintence in here.

Hi Maggie! I wish you the best in your conception attempts when the time comes! Also thank you for the reassurance...I'm starting to relax more about things now.

Update: I am still working on the maintenance phase. I upped my carbs to 120, since I was in moderate ketosis a couple days ago. Since then, my keto sticks have returned to white, and my weight loss has almost stopped. It did until today, when I dropped to 327. The food I'm eating is very healthy, and according to a program that was recently on about how many calories a woman should consume during pregnancy, I'm right on. (300 more than your BMR during pregnancy) After reading the study in 2Big's post about the mice on the lo carb diet, I feel very confident this baby will be fine, and benefit even in the long run from this way of eating. Hope this helps anyone thinking about their own situation.

Ok, tomorrow morning I go to hear the heartbeat for the first time! I'm so excited!!! It feels like forever since my Doc gave me a date to come see him for the first time, and yet how the time has flown. I asked my mother to be there with me, and my father then asked if he could too... If feel a little uncomfortable about his being there. I love him very much, but he can be intrusive without meaning to, and I'm very private about men seeing any part of me I don't usually show, except my husband. I'm so afraid if he is in town when I go into labor, he is going to "demand" to be allowed in the labor room. He is the type that will be hurt forever, and may even not talk to me if I ask him nicely not to. Plus he'll want to be where the action is in full view of baby coming out, probably with a camera! This I just can't accept! I'll just have to pray about it.

              UPDATE:

So far so good with my blood pressure. My doc has me using an at home device to measure it several times during the day, since on my last visit it was 156/77, and he wasn't happy with the top number. Since I've been home, my systolic hasn't been over 146, and my diastolic has not been above 80. Most of my readings are around 135/75. We got hearttones on January 16th, and a u/s yesterday that showed the baby at 14 weeks instead of 13 making my due date now July 18th. Baby was healthy, kicking and squirming with heart tone of 160. The tech gave me 7 really neat pics to take home, and I just can't stop looking at them, trying to make out features in the lights and shadows. It was too early though to tell the gender, so oh well...still a surprise! I'll take a healthy either or! I've dropped my carbs back down to 100, since my doc told me losing weight very slowly wouldn't hurt DB. He said he's had two women just deliver who had lost weight throughout their pregnancy, and delivered healthy normal babies, plus many others in the past. This was good news, since upping my carbs started slowly putting it back on, and causing killer cravings. All in all, this baby may yet prove to be a normal pregnancy, which my DS was anything but, and I may get to see what it feels like to get past 7 months! (The most uncomfortable part begins with 8 I've been told)

Glad that things are looking good! Please keep updating.

About your father-to avoid hurt feelings I would just say that your dr has a policy of only one support person allowed during labor/delivery(your husband in your case). I like my dad and all but I wouldn't want him to see my "hoo-ha" with a babies head coming out of it.

Oh Maggie, thanks for the giggle! That was too cute! I think he has backed off now. I'm sorry its taken me so long to see your reply. For some reason when I come to this threads, nothing appears as having a new post, so I miss alot.

Update: Had u/s, baby was at 14 weeks, which puts me at 15 weeks tomorrow. Felt baby for the first time last night. It felt like she was knocking to get out..kinda cute. And I felt her once this morning. No, I don't know the gender yet, but for some reason, "she" just keeps popping out, so I'm going to have to readjust my whole mindset if it turns out to be a boy! lol Have a great day, everyone!

Cinders-with all of my pregnancies I felt like TOM would show up during the first trimester. It was rather odd. I make sure I bought all white toilet paper because I was sure I would see blood.
