    Wow Juli! That's alot to swallow! and I thought I was taking 'handfuls' of pills. Do you stagger them over a few hours?

    I take most of my suppliments 3x a day:

    Morning: 1 multi, occaisionally a vit b12

    CLA 2 3x a day
    Evening primrose oil 2 3x a day
    cod liver oil, but some days Fish oil (because I have it and need to use it up)
    1 also take 2tbsns of Salba Seed (in yogurt or smoothie) every day. I actually really think it's made a difference with my energy level.
    I SHOULD take calcium too..but for some reason i never remember. I can never remember to take my probiotics either.

    Because there are 5 pills here at a time, and they're pretty big capsules, i feel like i'm taking alot...not so much now that i've read Julie's list!

      Actually, I just swallow them down before dinner. I have to drink about 32 oz. of water to do so, and if I take them before I eat, I won't forget! Taking them before dinner seems to prevent the upset stomach I used to get from zinc.

      I guess my next question would be, "Is there too much of a good thing?" Am I over-doing it? I actually wanted to add L-carnitine back in because I saw such positive results when I was taking it.

        I've often wondered this as well, especially for $$ reasons.

        I wish we could get L-carnitine here. I meant to pick some up when i was in Buffalo and forgot. It's not approved here.

        I also wonder if cutting my multi in half and taking half in the a.m. and half before dinner would be beneficial..i know many vits like the B that are in them, are water soluble and not worth taking all at once.

        the whole vitamin thing baffles me. i worry that i'm just putting out my $$ and taking too many capsules when i could be taking 1 or 2 and getting the same benefit, if any!

          Julie, good question! Your list of supplements may be longer than the typical person, who may only take a multi and a few others, but as long as you're not taking more than the UL (upper limit) of a particular nutrient, it is just fine. If I remember correctly, Atkins says in one of his books that he took over 50 pills a day! With your list, I don't see why you couldn't add L-carnitine back into your regimen.

          Jen, your last comment is common. It's one of many reasons why I tell people to keep a journal when starting new supplements. Some nutrients DO have the similar actions within our bodies while also having different uses. As far as splitting your multivitamin, feel free! Some multivitamins are sold as taking two, three, or four tablets a day to get the proper serving, but I usually don't recommend these for new folks even though it's best to maximize all the nutrients. I steer them to the one-a-day variety so that they get into the habit of taking supplements.

          I'm still taking a laundry list of supplements. Some are twice a day and others three times a day. I always take them with food with lots of water.

              Well I haven't posted in here in forever.

              I was taking my vitamins very sporatically for a long time but happy to report that for the last 3 days I'm right back on track taking ALL of them EVERY day!

                I actually don't mind taking so many supplements, it helps me to drink more water.

                  good to see you back at pill popping, strudel. also, good to see you back on the board.

                  julie that is one way of looking at things! maybe i should try that as an incentive in drink your water challenge! a challenger will have to drink 8 oz per pill. that should cover most of us as it seems we are taking quite a few supplements.

                  i've added garlic today. i'm checking to see if it stabalizes my blood pressure a bit. i've experimented with calcium w/o D and calcium w/ D and nothing seems to have made a change with the symptoms i've had. i won't be taking the estroven when i finish that bottle. i've been prescribed what i need.
                  seems like i traded this for that.

                    we've had a bit of new interest in being held accountable for taking our supplements so whos' on track, who's need encouragement, who needs a swift kick in the kester to remember to take her/his supplements?

                      This week tink11302 (my wife) and I have started a daily regimen of centrum silver, high potency vit. B complex, and flaxseed oil capsules.

                      It freaked us both out when our urine was the neon yellow from all the riboflaven (sorry if that was TMI)

                        do you have a specific time during the day that you take your supplements?

                          We take them in the in the morning right after breakfast. We also get our exercise done in the morning before breakfast so our metabolism is good and cranked up. Is there a better time to take them all/some?

                            nah, i was just asking thinking your regimine would help me out. we're just kinda haphazzard around here lately.
                            when we were taking more than we are now, i was spreading them out over the day but we're down to just 4 different supplements now.

                              put me down for needing the swift kick.

                              Well, I'm up for half a kick. I always remember the morning vits (which are most) but more often than not, forget the evening fish oil tabs.

                                hey sally. here i was thinking that i was the only one slacking.

                                did life stuff happen that made you start forgetting? i think we just got out our routine when my health problems happened. i had to stop everything prior to surgery so we just got out of our normal groove of doing things.
