Hmm. Since I already take vitamin E and vitamin C, I might as well just ditch the zinc if it's going to make me feel like hurling...

I'm not a fan of zinc or the throat lozenges that contain it. It doesn't make me feel sick, but it has a weird aftertaste in my mouth.

So, good news...the latest vitamin thread is up! I have also saved parts 2 and 3 on a new memory stick AND to a CD-RW. Nothing short of a wide-spead disaster will prevent me from making my posts in a timely manner!!!

Hey Cindy. You can take both if you want. Please read the thread about Omega 3-6-9 oils. It'll help you decide.

Took my vitamins for today in two doses, and took an extra flax oil supplement. I skipped the zinc.

I just purchased some Co Q-10, L-carnitine, and biotin to supplement what I've been taking. WOW! It made a dent in the wallet...I hope this stuff helps!

Co Q-10 would be a good future 'suppliment of the week' maybe? (hint hint? ).

I actually used to take it, but it started to get really expensive, and I read in a couple of places that if you are in good health chances are you don't need it. But i'd rather play it safe personally (my dad died of a heart attack). Unfortuantely right now i can't afford it on a constant basis.

Right now I take Omega 3.6.9 and try to add 1-2tbsnflax meal daily..so i'm hoping that should be good for heart health. I just wish it didn't all cost so much!

I'm curious as to why you choose those particular supplements over something else. I personally take biotin, but if you allow me to make a recommendation, I would return the other two if possible. Here's why...

Co Q-10 is made within each of us and it's biochemical importance is clear. However, all the human studies on it are pretty shady because they were not randomized, controlled, nor published in a peer-reviewed journal. I can not stress how important that is. If you do decide to take it, do so in the morning b/c some common side effects are nausea and insomnia.

Some animal (rat, I believe) studies that are promising, deal with Co Q-10's immune boosting ability and anti-cancer properties. Again, more studies are needed. I can also post the journal articles if you like.

With L-carnitine, I know that most people choose to take this supplement b/c of its promise of boosting energy and fighting fat. Our bodies also make this amino acid derivative, but interesting enough, we absorb more through eating meat than through the use of a supplement. I believe the numbers are 60% versus 20% or so. I'll try to dig up the nutritional study that originally published that.

I know that L-carnitine studies have shown it to help certain cardiac conditions and some other disorders, but the studies regarding extra energy and its fat fighting abilities are worse than Co Q-10. But then, I tend to read reputable journals and not "Vitamins R Us."

I know there are many fans of both of those supplements, and even Dr. Atkins recommends them in his Vitanutrient book. However, I'm a skeptic by nature and base my reasonings on what I personally read from journal articles and knowledge gleaned from my classes.

I hope this helps, rather than confuse you.

I purchased them for a couple reasons: recommendations by others, and I re-read the section of DANDR that talks about said nutrients. I didn't sign a year-long contract with the things, I'm just trying them out, and I figure I can afford $40 or however much all of them were. Heart problems run in my family; heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure. So does cancer. So does diabetes. And there are many days where I just don't eat enough protein, whatever the case may be.

So if I feel/see no improvements, I won't buy them again. But I'm a person who will try anything once.

You know, it has REALLY helped me with PMS. I can not believe the difference taking supplements regularly has done for me! I am one happy girl.

Well, here's to trying something new!

So, when trying out a new supplement, start with one supplement at a time. So this month, try out Co Q-10 and then make a decision. Next month, start up the other. Otherwise, it will be difficult to determine which one worked, etc. Good luck!

Which one should I take this month? I'm thinking of taking the biotin regardless, so should I take L-carnitine or Co Q-10?
