Moving on to OWL is adding an additional 5 net carbs of vegetables on Rung 1.....it's something you'll have to do anyway, just move slowly and check as many vegetables as you want to - there is no "set in stone' way of moving up the ladder. There may be some rungs you don't want to stop on (nuts is my downfall) so just move past those and keep track of the foods you can eat easily and those that give you problems (weight gain or adverse reactions to a particular food).

Welcome to the new ladies who have come while I've been away. I started this thread because my weight loss isn't the same as those in their 20's - 30's or even 40's......I had a few good friends who had fallen by the wayside and was hoping to find new friends through a common thread -- I've done just that! I hope the new faces here will become friends also!!

Don't let anyone's words deter you from following the Atkins plan - either in your life or on this board...just remember to take small steps forward! I run the water challenge each month - if you need extra help getting your water in daily (minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily is suggested) come join us! The link is in my signature line.

Again, welcome!! And to those great friends who have been here for awhile -- HI!! I'm hoping the things that have been holding me back are gone now. I've missed y'all!

Boy,this thread has gone silent lately. I forgot about it for a while but I miss the friends who used to come here.

I know it's hard to post a lot sometimes. I get on the board lots of times but only have enough time to post to my challenges so I have to skip this thread. But it's a nice place for those of us over the age of 50 to talk about the challenges we are facing so I hope it picks up again.

Hi All! Nyna, thanks for writing! Easter sidetracked me big time...usually I don't cave, but this year was different. I guess I'm going to blame it (of course, Haha) on the fact that I had some kind of major allergic reaction to who knows what, about 2 weeks before Easter, that had me go to theDr. He put me on prednisone to make the swelling and itching on my forehead, eye area, neck and hands calm down...but I was miserable. So to make myself feel better on Easter I ate potato salad, chocolate marshmellow eggs, KFC original chicken, and...well you get the picture. I am now back on tract bigtime, and my face swelling and hands and itching are almost completely gone. I had not fallen off the wagon in a year!! Anyway, I feel so much better back on tract! Am glad to see you guys again...talk to you soon,

          Hi Kathy!

Sorry to hear about your allergies! They sound awful. I'm glad I've never had to deal with something like that. I hope you all better real soon.

I'm glad you're back on plan already. Last Easter, I went off plan all the way and it took me months to get my act together again. But I will never give up on Atkins because it's the only thing that as ever worked for me. This year I made sure that I survived Easter. I didn't buy any candy at all. Instead I bought clothes and toys for my little granddaughter and the only dessert I made was a Mandarin Fruit Salad that I don't like because it has sour cream in it.

I'm on plan and loving every minute of it. I feel so much better when I'm not letting my demons run the show!

Hi, I'm here! I'm 58 and have 'tried" to restart Atkins this week. Due to meetings everyday this week, I was not able to start. I will begin on Monday. I am tired of restarting, but this week was out of my hands. All meals were catered and there is no place to store any lunch that I would bring. Rather than stress about it, I'll just begin next week. In the meantime, I plan to start a walk/run program to help get some of this weight off. I'll be doing more walking than running though.

Hi MaryAnn, welcome "back"...every time we start again, I believe we start "better"!

Nyna, I love Atkins also, it IS the ONLY thing that works. Plus it is so healthy! The more I have studied it, the more I find out about it. I mentioned awhile back I got that book "Life without Bread", and hey, Dr. Atkins was Right On!!! (OMG am I a hippy??from the 60s???) That book even mentions and recognizes Dr Atkins) Anyway, my husband keeps eating his "regular"way, and I keep on my Atkins....guess who gets colds, etc., and who doesn't.....hmmmm.... (I don't get any colds! or) So, I'm workin' on him! But he loves his breads and sweets....what kills me is that he doesn't have to lose any weight, lOL!!! Oh well, Oh! and I almost forgot, out of curiosity I ordered from Amazon the original Atkins diet revolution!!! (the one from 1972) I will let you know when I get it. As it is, I have the Atkins 1992 "New" revolution, and the 2003 Atkins for Life. Now, does this site support one over the other "religiously"? I know alot of people don't like the earlier versions. Talk to you soon,

Hi Mary Ann. I know how hard it is to handle eating at work and I hope you get back on track now that you're meetings are over. You can do it because you know that it's the best thing for you.

Kathy, My husbands the same way. He won't give up the way he eats although he did try a little once but he is diabetic and has to eat sugar to keep us energy up. He comes in from outside with the shakes all the time. But I make mostly Atkins friendly meals and just add carbs for him so it works out fine.

About the book, we use the 2002 edition because it the last one written by the good doctor and is the way he wanted it done. I've never read any of the other ones so don't know what the differences are but I'm told the 2002 is the best of the bunch because he had refined the diet to work it best by then.

I hope you both have a great day!

                  Hi everyone!

I am doing so well on plan that yesterday I wasn't hungry at all and had to eat 3 oz. of cheese after supper to bring my calories up to 1200. I love the way Atkins takes away the appetite!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Wow Nyna, that's great! I sometimes forget about the calories as a way of making sure we're eating enough so we don't go into slow mode....Have a wonderful weekend, too!!!

Hi Nyna, well I was offline yesterday afternoon, but guess what I had for dinner?? I made pork chops!! So we're all on the pork page, I guess, LOL!!! I brown mine after I spinkle them with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and oregano! The oregano makes them taste yummy! Had a cucumber & tomato salad with evoo and wine vinegar, and for veggies, buttered brocolli and cauliflower. I had one chop left over, thinking maybe having it for lunch...hmmm....

Hi Kathy -- thanks for welcoming me back! The carpet is beautiful and makes the house look so much better...wish we would have done it before!

Today is my welcome back to Atkins day also -- I've been floundering around for about 2 months not really following Atkins except for drinking my water everyday.

I was reading what you were eating and just wanted to get my 2 cents in -- we had pork chops on Friday evening!

Good luck to each of us here -- hopefully we can get an active discussion going again here!
