        Thanks Karina.

I did find the lo-carb ice-cream at Coles, but found sugar as one of the ingredients. I am assuming the Atkins ice-cream doesn't use sugar?

Also, do you know where I can find lo-carb bread... or should I even ask, lo-carb rice?

A brief change of subject, I'm pleased to see the name "Coles" on here! I did a lot of shopping in that store whilst I was staying in Currumbin Valley, Queensland about a month ago.

Seeing the name Coles, brought back some nice memories of my holiday!

(I'm not saying that Coles was nice, btw. It just reminded me of my trip Down under!

              Re: Australia

I cannot believe all we Ozzies are so slack no one has posted here since APRIL!! I just discovered it, and only joined the board in September. Any updates on low card bread - I'd love a bit of toast just sometimes.

I do buy small bake at home wholemeal rolls from BI-Lo or Coles, there are 2 sizes. One is 13 carbs, and the bigger one is 18. I just work them in as a treat when nothing else will reayy do - about once a fortnight. Hot out of the oven with lovely fresh butter they are just AWESOME!

Wish I'd discovered this thread earlier, I was down near Taree last week (at Gloucester) for a workshop.

                    Hi Analog6

I often make microwaved flax bread (using ground linseeds)
I did add it to the recipe database but it looks as if that has vanished as the links havent worked for a while now.

So here is my current version of it
                    1 ounce of melted butter
                    2 medium eggs
4 tablespoons of flax seeds (linseeds) ground to a 'flour' consistency
                    4 tablespoons of water
                    1/2 teaspoon of baking powder.

Mix together and put in the microwave (I use a small square container about 4" x 5") and nuke for 4 minutes.

It makes a failry dense 'spongy' loaf.

If you are on induction and need the help of fibre to make your 'potty trips' more comfortable you are allowed to add a tablespoon of ground flax to your regime to assist, and I find a 1/4 of the recipe is a few small slices - enough to toast and put under a fried egg or make a bacon sarny!!

If you wanted to eat more of it in a day then work up the quantities gradually once you have reached the nuts/seeds rung of OWL.

Sometimes I make small rolls or burger buns by splitting the recipe into 4 small round bowls.

Elizellen, thank you so much! I've been wondering what this darn 'flax seed' is and now I now it's just linseed! I used to feed it to my horses (to fatten them up, ironically). I'll try that recipe, sounds good. A hamburger, mmm.

Cottee's diet jelly is sweetened with Splenda - well, the rasperry one is anyway, the others were less clear, but it looked like maybe they are repackaging and the rasperry ones are the new packets.

Nando's portuguese chicken chain - fantastic chicken and they have nutritional info cards in store - a quarter chicken with their peri-peri chilli sauce has only 1.2grams of carbs (working from memory here!). That's right, fast food chain that is Atkins friendly - as long as you avoid the chips and sides that is. It is so good.

Other than those two things, low carb products don't seem to cover as wide a range as the US. I have browsed through recipes here and in DANDR and so many of them require bakemix. At $50 (in US dollars!) just for postage, I don't think I'll be shipping that over through the Atkins site!

So, those are my tips and my grumble. I hope the sun is shining wherever you are...

another aussie here, just to let you know I found Atkins bake mix around $22 at Coles larger stores along with other Atkins products, watch the use by date as US list the date month before day ok.
I can't use at this time I'm on induction

I'm new to this board, but I have been on the some other low carb boards for a while!

I'm been on Atkins since July 25th 2005. I've lost 36 kilos (79 pounds) so far.

I'm a believer now in this Way of Life!

Try Empower Foods for low carb products. They make low carb wraps (3g for each wrap) which can be used as substitutes for tortillas and pizza bases. If you get these (I've found a couple of health food shps that sell them) and don't use all in one go - freeze the remainder using kitchen paper or alfoil to separate. I've also tried a biscuit mix (almond innocence) which was really nice but I'd recommend splitting the dough into 2 or 3 times the number of biscuits as the box states. They also make a low carb cereal but I haven't tried that.

                              The website is www.empowerfoods.com.au

If you are a chocoholic Woolies sell the dark Well Naturally chocolate bars. These are sugar free but do contain more sugar alcohols than the Atkins products (principally maltitol), but if you aren't sensitive these are really nice. And the bars can be grated just like high carb chocolate bars.
