    Re: UK!

Hi, I`m British but living in Spain - and was doing fine went down from 88kilos to 79 after almost 2mths. on Atkins - am in my 50's - but temptation came my way when I went to Britain recently and got into some bad ways - too much wine and so on.

However am back on induction again, since yesterday!!!!! and doing fine, I do like greek yoghurt which says on tub that it contains 4gm of carbs. So I have 2 per day and works fine for me......... discovered orange cheddar cheese the other day in Upper Stores .
Interesting re Boots Atkins snack products...........I tend to just crunch on celery sticks and brie..........or fake blue Danish mmmmmmmmmmm.
    good luck every1,
    and happy atkins munching

        Re: UK!

You need to find 'Grated Horseradish', not the horseradish sauces which you have found have lots of sugar added (why oh why oh why do they add sugar to everything?)
They should be in the same area of the shop as the sauces.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

sorry, Esther I missed your post until today
Looking on their website it looks fine - as you said, no carbs listed for a 100 gram serving. I havent eaten there so am not sure how large their portions are, but assuming they list 0 carbs because it has less than 1 carb (the spices must add 'some' small amount of carbs I think) I would either ask them how much weight of chicken is in it, or guess from comparing the size with some in the supermarket and maybe count 1 carb per 100g just to be on the safe side!

                      Re: UK!

Hi Elizellen... Thanks for the tip on nandos.. I think it would be safe to count it as 1 gm of carb for every 100gm.. Their portion sizes are frm quarter chk to half to full depending on how much u can tuck in! D usual supermarket size... Its delicious and u must try it if you find one of their branches closeby or if ur visiting London....
Btw is it okay to eat onion on induction?? I knw it says in the book but I remember reading somewhere that it has a high sugar content like carrots.. I use it as a treat once a week (fried onions and steak) and on regular basis i stick to spring onions...
Also I was wondering if i shld move to owl..
I started at 13st 10 and am now down to 12st 4 after almost 2 months on induction.. My goal wt is 10st 4 .. which means i have 28lbs or say 2 st to go...
When in ur opinion should I move to OWL? I have not cheated even once even though I have dreamz tht I have (lol) and in a way that satiates my odd cravings

I love that town! Next year I'll be back there, or close enough

and about dreaming to cheat...tonight I had this weird dream that I was eating rice! And in the dream I realized I shouldn't! Oh my.... I even dream about carb counting! *shakes head*

                          Hi to Roshen and Esther

Welcome to the Uk section! I 4get to post here sometimes!

Esther - I'm positive that onions are ok on Induction, I eat them and they havent had a negative impact on my weight loss. Altho I do only eat them cooked in Chicken Cacciatore, I cant stand raw onion! I think if you are happy in staying on Induction then keep on it until you have 1 more stone to lose, then more on to OWL. The last few pounds will need to come off slowly so that they stay off. Well thats my plan anyway! Also keep up with any exercise that you do as it will tone ur skin.

Roshen - I havent been to Bromley but I LOVE London!! Shopping Capital of the UK, altho Bluewater comes a very close 2nd! How come ur not living in the UK at the moment? Where are you now?

Are Nando's quite Atkins friendly? There's one in Basingstoke, I might have to pop in!

                            Re: UK!

I just discovered this board and I am very pleased that there is a UK thread. I notice nobody has posted in quite a while. I hope this thread doesn't go by the wayside.

I am an American living in Lincolnshire for the past year. I lived near Redding for the year before moving here.

I am getting ready to do Atkins again. Four years ago when I was still in the USA I lost 30 pounds on Atkins. Unfortunately, moving to England did me in as far as dieting is concerned. Lots of new, high carb foods to try and I tried them all. Also my husband prefers traditional English cuisine. (So do I.) He is the same height as I am and weighs 20 pounds less--all bone, muscle and skin with not an ounce of visible fat.

I tried going back on Atkins last January and failed miserably. I think the reason is partly because of failing to plan properly. I tried eating the same foods day after day and just got tired of the lack of variety. This time I am planning out menus with a variety of foods. In the states I used American style pork rinds for snack attacks and they saved me many times. I just cannot eat the British pork scratchings.

From reading the posts here I think Lincolnshire sausages are a no-no on Atkins. Too bad because I love them.

I have never used many of the low-carb products that are on the market and probably won't this time either. I may try a few.

Well, September 15th is my start date.

                              Hi Elizamez
Welcome to our corner of ADBB

This thread isnt very busy as most of the regular UK Atkineers post all over the board but lots of us check it out daily to see any new posts and posters.

You are right, Lincolnshire sausages wont be Atkins-friendly if they stick to the traditional ingredients as declared when they were trying to get protected status for the name.

According to the butchers behind the bid, the ingredients for a Lincolnshire sausage should be:

                              · British pork
                              · Breadcrumbs of bread rusk
                              · Sage
                              · Natural hog casings
                              · Seasonings
I buy mainly german-style sausages like bratwurst as they only contain meat and spices, but you can get no-carb sausages from speciality shops and if you can find a butcher who makes his own then he could make them with no breadcrumbs in them for you.

It sounds as if you are making a good start by planning your menus before you start - well done

I look forward to sharing your Atkins journey towards better health and a slimmer you

Waitrose Premium Sausages in various flavours are pretty low carb. High quality so no cereal fillers.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                                he said, 'Don't count calories.'
