    Re: Induction marathon: 4 weeks (3rd Sep - 1st Oct)....anyone with me?

Everyone's doing a happy dance, me too! Still hanging around at 229 but I'll take it! Got water back last night so I took a LONG shower this morning! I also met my new Primary Dr. and just love him. So down to earth and didn't say a word about my weight. Asked me how my overall health was and I said I'm doing well and getting better everyday, let him know that I was cutting down on carbs and processed sugars and exercising daily and he said "good, thats more than most do". My blood pressure has dropped from 130/90 to 120/80 in just 1 month! Yay!

Also, my partner just got a call last night from the SEC Enforcement department in Boston and they are interviewing her via phone on Monday! This is the opportunity to move back north that we have been waiting for for over 3 years! They are only interviewing 3 people and she has 8 years of international financial investigation and training experience which is even more than they could ever want so we are very hopefull! I told her last night that we have to really boost our diet and exercise up in the hopes that she'll lose 15 pounds before her face to face interview which we expect to happen in 2-3 weeks. I think she can do it but next week she'll be out of town for a big conference. Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for us!!!!!

Oh, I typically drink 3 32ounce containers of water while at work and another 16-24 ounces when I get home. I'm always drinking!

I don't know how you guys drink so much. I drink 70 and feel like I'm floating. I have to have all my water in by 3 pm cos we go to football practice at 5 and are there till 8 and lets just say the porta johns are used by all young football players so the chances of me steping into one are between no way in this world and not a chance in... well ya know what I mean, I'm sure.
bella - sounds like you guys might be a shoo in for this job. Sometimes I think its easier to be eating like this and not be home. I love going out to eat and ordering a good grilled chicken salad or broiled fish it always tastes better when your out and someone else is doing the cooking.

diamonds, the way I figure it is if I'm drinking water I'm not eating something bad, like the pizza that is sitting in the kitchen at work right now, or the popcorn that is sitting on the reception desk, or the chocolates in the bowl in the reception room.

I write an e-mail, take a sip, answer the phone, take a sip, look at the forum board, take a lot of sips, all throughout the day and when I get home I have a big glass with dinner and then sip a little more before bed...if I workout I get even more in.

thats true, the more I drink the less I even want to eat - I guess thats the plan though, so it does work.

diamonds - i agree with you. I was monitoring my weight everyday during the weekend. And tell you what, alcohol makes a huge difference. Instead of the weight that you can lose with correct eating and exercising, alcohol can bump it up. So all the efforts are down in the drain. Also that leads to carb binge. I do agree.....no alcohol means no alcohol. I am very curious to know how much you lost today. Keep us posted.

Just curious, how much water do you guys drink per day?
            Thanks!

I'm off to a great start, but I have a couple of concerns:

            1) I had an excruciating migraine and period cramps last night, so I broke down after HOURS of pain and took two Advil. I noticed a sweet taste, so I immediately searched the site, and sure enough, someone else posted about it. Of course, the kind I took have a sugar coating (they were at my fiance's house-- I usually use non-coated Aleve). So, I'm not sure how this will affect my induction.

            2) I added mustard to my chicken salad last night, but I noticed mustard is not on the induction list! However, millions of people accept that it is a low carb condiment, and THIS SITE even includes it in induction-friendly recipes. Am I missing something?

            3) I realize eggs are "free" on induction and during the Atkin's diet in general, but I KNOW I've read somewhere that they contain carbs and can interfere with a low carb diet (much like oysters and mussels). With this knowledge, should I limit my daily egg intake during induction? Each egg contains about 1 gram of carbs...

            3) I bought a package of nitrite/nitrate-free hot dogs (I try to do organic and natural when possible), but I noticed cane sugar in the ingredients. The carbs is listed as <1, but I know because it has sugar in it I shouldn't use it for induction. Will I be able to eat the hot dogs after my 2-week induction? Isn't induction just a "stricter" form of the diet itself?

            4) Am I allowed to eat potato chips during induction? JUST KIDDING!

Otherwise, I'm doing great. Keeping good food records, too. Need to exercise-- that's the area in which I need the most motivation. But, between my brother's and my fiance's encouragement, I think we'll all go together to work out tonight.

Wow diamonds..........13 lbs!!!!!!!! That is amazing. You have motivated me so much......i am so proud of you. I hope i lose at least 20% of that on monday.

Bellajgw- Good luck to you and your patner. Boston is a lovely place, my most favorite city on earth.....lived there 6 years......a place very close to my heart....you guys will love it!!

Good job on the water. I drink about 100 oz a day. And any more than that, i would have to stay in the bathroom and not bother coming out. (ha ha)

I am sure things will definitely work out positive for everyone.

                Re: Induction marathon: 4 weeks (3rd Sep - 1st Oct)....anyone with me?

Oh my gosh!!! I just realized something... I'm going away on the 18th-19th and I HAVE to cheat. I know it sounds weird that I say I have to, but we are getting "tasting" menus at a sophisticated bed 'n breakfast. (I'm going with two other people and we've been planning this for months.) I don't think I could possibly keep carbs down on a tasting menu-- the chef throws everything at his/her own discretion.

Since I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll be cheating on this day, what is your input about how this will affect my induction? I am being so strict during the rest of my induction, so I don't want to mess it up.

I wish I had started induction just a few days earlier

In your opinion, is it better to just use that day and keep going, or should I do something else?

                Thanks so much!
                Laura

                  Laura,

If you really have to cheat make sure its just that day and get back right on track the day after. To get rid of consumed carbs, i would do a lot of cardio the next day to use all of it and get back to ketosis.

                  Good luck!

thanks tania!! I was excited about it too. I even went out and walk 1 1/2 miles last nite, which I can honestly admit I hate to do. I'd love to be one of those people who looks forward to excercising and feels so good afterwards. I dread it up until the time I do it, I hate it the whole time I am doing it and then I feel like I just wanna jump right in the shower afterwards but I'm too freaking tired to!! so any time I get out there and walk is a plus for me.
laura - I have have eaten mustard and eggs on induction and I found sugar free hotdogs ( I think they were all beef ball park) as far as a cheat day - Id do the absolutely bare minimum. My cheat days always seem to turn into cheat weekends, which turn into cheat weeks, then cheat months etc...
I got up this morning and broke up a whole head of lettuce in a big bowl and added radishes, mushrooms and broccoli so I have a huge salad that I can grab out of for lunches or dinners the next few days. Its always so much easier for me if its done and ready to go rather than having to pull all that stuff out each day and make an individual salad.
Good Luck to us all over the weekend!!

Laura, I hear you. If you MUST do this, please try to be as good as possible up to the moment you let carbs touch your lips. Drink WATER, not wine, not soda, not punch. Don't FILL UP on the carby options. Taste, not devour! And the minute the tasting is over you HIT INDUCTION HARD again! Then try working out, really exercising the next few days more than you normally would. Hopefully it will only take a day or two to get your body back on track.

If you make a plan and stick to it you can get through this tasting and still enjoy the event.

On my own note I am now 11 days in and a total of 14 pounds down from my highest, and 10 down from my starting. I really worked out last night and am sore this morning. I abstained from the office pizza yesterday and today I should be able to abstain from the fresh hot donuts sitting in the office kitchen. (about to heat up a cheese and ham omlette and 3 sausage links)

                        Good luck everyone!!!

good job on the loss bella! I can never stay away from pizza wen we have it but I pick one with lots of toppings and eat just the cheese and toppings, leave the dough and crust behind. It still tastes great and its all stuff I can have.

laura - I think if you have pain, you need to take whatever will help! I don't believe it will affect your induction too much.

according to fitday - mustard has .3 carbs per teaspoon, and 1 medium egg is .7. When I'm following induction, I use fitday as my guide.

chuckled at the potato chip question - good one!

That's what my fiance says about pain, too. I'm a not-even-an-aspirin person, so I absolutely felt I had to take those two darned Advil. If I'm ever in that much pain again, I'll take the Aleve (without a coating).
