Oooo, I have Whey Protein Isolate! Perfection! I see a post-workout shake in my future tonight Thanks Liv!

Now, regarding the coffee...are you all using instant coffee grounds or regular? Just wondering what kind of texture the regular grounds may leave. So here is how I'm making my shake:

    3 Eggs
    1/2 c Heavy Cream
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    1 tsp unsweetened dark cocoa
    1 tsp cinnamon
    2 splenda packets
    3-4 ice cubes

Maybe I'll add a tbsp of whey protein next time. Do you think I should drink it before or after my workout?

Half a cup of cream and three eggs is a lot "energy" in one drink. You may want to count up the carbs and calories on it and tweak it a bit.

If you do decide to use protein isolate - reduce eggs for sure (is your protein sweetener free?)

I would have that after exercise for sure.

I use my normal coffee that I make in my coffee maker.

      Hope that helps

Liv, cool, thanks! I usually make it that big because I get help drinking it from my partner (who never wants her own, just big sips of mine, lol)

I have to drag the containers out of the closet and take a look. If they do have sweetener I may not use them, but if its sucralose I may just cut out the splenda packets. I think I remember them being vanilla flavored and sweet, but its been a while (if they're even still good)

Well I hope so becasue it would be hard to drink that and lose weight

If the protein powder is sweetened that is not a big issue (if you can deal with the sweetener they use) but you do not want to add more sweetener too it.

Are you drinking raw eggs? I do not think this is healthy, you may get salmonella.

are you saying it is unhealthy to drink Eggnog? I have never heard of anyone getting sick from drinking eggnog. This is pretty much how it's made and raw eggs are actually very healthy.

Being afraid of a bacterium would keep us all locked in our homes and plastic wrapped so we couldn't touch anything. It is unlikely that salmonella poisoning would happen with this.

The only eggnog I had was from the store. Never made one.

Raw eggs aren't any more dangerous than having sushi, or steak tartar. If the eggs are fresh you're pretty safe. I would never use questionable eggs raw.

The eggnog in stores is ultrapasturized because they are afraid of LAWSUITS, not salmonella. Unless you are wiping raw meat and chicken on the inside of your blender before making the eggnog you are probably safe. Just don't use old eggs. Simple.

People are too freaked out about germs and bacteria these days. This is why so many of these nasty bugs out there are so nasty...because we've forced them to evolve to get past all the anti-bacterial stuff we do, use, eat, wear, etc.

Yes it is raw eggs, if you read back in the thread you will see the topic has already come up and been addressed, as well as how to handle it safely and studies on eating raw eggs. If you are still squeamish about the eggs being raw, there are also some alternative ways to make the shakes with things like egg beaters.
I would assume that you already know that eggnog is raw eggs right?

Wow is this good!!!! It tastes like I'm cheating! I just made a teeny bit before bed to taste it and I'm psyched to have a larger serving for breakfast tomorrow. Thanks so much for the idea!

Disclaimer: I drink raw eggs. I buy organic cage free eggs and rinse the shells under cold water before cracking. So, I'm in the raw egg camp here.

That being said, the comparison to homemade and store bought eggnog is not quite appropriate. As mentioned above, the store bought stuff is pasteurized. The homemade stuff has alcohol added which, by and large, kills most of the harmful bacteria (which also explains why homemade eggnog can keep for weeks).

I ordered those Capella drops. The shipping was super fast.

Well, I'll be returning them. Do you know they have propylene glycol in the ingredients? That's the same stuff in anti-freeze. Ugh. Too bad I didn't see that before I put a few drops in my eggnog. I think it upset my stomach too. Just wanted to warn you so you could make an informed decision. Bummer.

I wish there was some sweetener that was safe and especially safe for pregnancy as I plan to get pregnant in a few months (and yes I know I can't do weight loss phases of Atkins then ). Too good to be true I guess...

Oh, no! No way -- I never even thought to look at the ingredients. Yeah, I stay away from artificial sweeteners and try to use organic products as much as possible. I don't think I could use these on a regular basis.

Thanks for the heads up. What a waste...

Wow, I wrote the company this morning and they called me this afternoon! Good customer service. She said she's going to have an expert call me on Tuesday, but tried very hard to reassure me it was safe.

So I've been googling all day. I can find both things that say to avoid it and others that say it's safe. I guess that's like anything. It looks like it has to be really really high amounts to do anything and even that's rare and that's usually only when it's given straight.

I'm leaning towards keeping them since I won't be using more than a few DROPS per day so how bad could it really be? I guess I just initially freaked. I guess it's like extracts...they are alcohol which isn't good for you, but since it's such a small amount, it won't hurt.

Since I want to be pregnant soon, I'm extra vigilant about this stuff. I eat 99.9% real food anyway for myself.
